Jan 11 2010Reporter Breaks "Unbreakable" Phone At CES

This is a short video of BBC reporter Dan Simmons breaking an allegedly unbreakable phone at the Consumer Electronics Show. The phone is supposed to be able to withstand a 10-story drop, being dunked 20-feet underwater for a half hour, and used as a hammer. Unfortunately, it can't withstand being beat against an aquarium four times. But my fish love that shit!

Thanks to Ross and Simon, who can break phones just by looking at them. That's, uh, some superpower. Blast the chick sitting next to me!

Lo dejo cayado!

lmfao fail

The puny mobile crumbles at the might of the BBC!!!!

OH SNAP! literally.....

LOL, Pwned. Never say never!

ownd

ha, now they cannot sell that brick for $500!!

I love they way he apologies for breaking the unbreakable phone.

Yeah, he broke the screen. If anything, the 'unbreakable' phone's weak point would be the screen...

Does he get a free phone, then?

I can't type the word "FAIL" big enough.

that made my day. thank you, GW.

all their testers used the other parts of the phone to hammer nails but failed to use the screen for that, i guess.

SHARP EDGES PWN YOUR PHONE

Fail fail fail!

ahh thats so great!

LOL, he's so embarrasd...

I bet engineering said "well it's damn near indestructible" and the marketing people said 'HAMMER NAILS WITH IT!'

This sort of thing happens quite often....

hahahaha WIN!

...I thought he was going to do something really intelligent to break it all the way through that video and when he just went caveman on its ass and broke it by hammering it against the fishtank I nearly died with laughter. Thanks!

It's like the Casio G-Shock, if you hammer it enuff, you can break it into small subatomic particles.

says somethin' about the fishtank

Definitly NOT Steve Proof !

He definitely says "fuck" and "shit" at the end. The BBC guy that is.

So is that fish tank unbreakable??

i guess that'll be on this years 'Fail' compilation.

@19

That's why marketing is the bane of every engineer.

I think this is fake all the way, if ´hammering´ the phone on an edge breaks it. How the fuck does it survive a drop 10 stories down? I smell a some marketing tricks to bring your product under attention.

a friend had one of these. long story short we threw it at a wall and it exploded.

Well as soon as you say something is unbreakable, people will find a way to fucking break it. I just would never have thought the way to do it would be smacking it on a fish tank.

I love how the company rep looks nervous throughout the whole video.

The British always find ways to break things. that's why we're british.

that goes beyond EPIC FAIL

I wonder if the name of this phone is the Titanic.

Wasn't that "unsinkable"? yea.....that didn't work out so hot either.

That was hilarious. He wasn't even hitting it on the fishtank that hard.

yeah he does say fuck and shit and the end if you look at his lips and his facial expressions they have just cut his mic out lmao

I think the concept of the unbreakable phone meant that it cannot withstand drops and water not blunt force directly to the screen... Its still a great phone regardless for what it is being that no phones can stand from a 10 story tall drop or being under water for 30 minutes.

@37. The guy at the beginning said "The Worlds Most Rugged Phone", which it isn't "unbreakable", but its pretty hard to break

@18. Yeah, marketing just likes to fuck with engineers. Look up AMC Gremlin.

'I do apologize' XD

During PEPCOM at the Mobile World Congress, eight tech reporters put Sonim's newest phone, the Spirit XP2, through a torture test. We worked with them to produce videos of the tests. Here's a link www.sonimtech.com/video.
