I'm a little ignorant in regards to how google maps acquire their street view images, but I thought it was through actual photography by a scale truck/van/tank that peruses such routes accordingly. So the better question can be extracted from the vast network of routes that present the eventual plethora of google map moments, in that how (why) people (bother to) find them....or why people would be genuinely looking within those areas to begin with.
