Nov 5 2009What Space Invaders Actually Look Like

This is an $18 Threadless shirt depicting what 8-bit Space Invaders actually look like in 3-D. Pretty amazing, huh? I know, I thought they were giant 2-D bugs as well. Really turns your whole world upside down, doesn't it? Like finding out your parents are swingers.

Thanks to Amanda, who just realized Aunt Beth and Uncle Simon weren't actually relatives. Sorry, Amanda.

So thats why it took lasers to kill what looked like bugs with a disposition!

This blows my mind a little.

I love it when someone has an original creative idea like this. On the other hand, this means all the good ideas are rapidly disappearing, and that it will be even harder for me to be recognized as a genius.
Happy Thursday everyone. ONE MORE DAY! ONE MORE DAY!

This just reminded me....
I am so proud of my daughter (3 years old). Last night she had her first "PEW PEW"
We're playing and she says, "Sticke em up! It's the end of the world! PEW PEW!"
I was so proud!

Nice original idea, I hope he/she scores big with it.

It seems like they made a good bit more effort matching up the shadow of the one on the left to its corresponding 3d model.
It's still awesome.

Those things look like they're ready to PEW PEW!
10. h3llc4t - November 5, 2009 11:18 AM
@8: yeah, the one on the right has a rounded nose, yet the shadow is square in that same area.

@ 4
Will it help calm your fears if I let you know that there was no chance of that happening to begin with?

I love it! Only shouldn't the green trail behind them come out from the side since they move more from side to side? Maybe I'm being too picky
13. cabbo - November 5, 2009 11:42 AM
@10 yep, also the jets are conected on the back by a thim rod which is there on the model, but not the shadow.
14. cabbo - November 5, 2009 11:42 AM
By thim I mean thin.
15. vondy - November 5, 2009 11:48 AM
Wait, this doesn't make much sense as the left space invader is upside down then if the lasers are firing in that direction. Unless its the jets which makes the right one wrong!!! GAHHHH.
Anyways good idea!

@15 I think it's jets, as they run right through the vessel. Also, as far as that goes, I think they're both the right way up. It's just the shadows, or rather the models, that are formed incorrectly.
Still brilliant.

ok...well at least that's something worth knowing.
@4 Thursdays are awesome indeed. It's like being second in line for free gifts.

The funny thing is that I overheard that the designer for the original game had these fellas inspired by kalamari. :B
So the picture should really be squids & octos with rockets & bazookas strapped to them.

@4 two more days for me, I just got to work.
The one on the left is supposed to move its arms up and down. I don't think the artist's interpretation accurately shows that.
