Nov 13 2009VIDEO Of Bugatti Veyron Crash Into Marsh. Oh, And I Called It -- No Low-Flying Pelican

Apparently some kids happened to videotape the $1.6 million Bugatti Veyron crash from the other day. And, surprise surprise, there was no "low-flying pelican". Nope, just a man playing with himself in one of the world's most expensive production vehicles. Way to go, champ.
Hit the jump for a video of the car getting towed out.

Thanks to Lloyd, tom and Hayes, who haven't driven anything into a lake except golf balls.

"Pretty sure that's a Lambo dude"
FAIL! Although to be fair, not quite so big a fail as driving your $2million car into a marsh. Play him off, keyboard cat.
15. Jedge - November 14, 2009 12:47 PM
Is there a cheap Bugatti Veyron for sale in Texas? With possible water damage. I want it.
16. chris - November 14, 2009 12:48 PM
So, when the tow truck dude decides to turn the steering wheel even though the wheels are locked and just sliding along the ground anyway, what does that solve?
17. Lain - November 14, 2009 12:57 PM
Regardless of the idiotic commentary (A lambo?), the footage is quite impressive.
18. Bazman - November 14, 2009 1:10 PM
Aww, it makes a lovely rainbow splash when it hits the water - those engineers thought of everything!

For a limited time!!!
For sale....
PAK's.....Pelican Avoidance Kit.
Hate those pesky fish gobbling prehistoric oversized retarded parrots? We do to.
There's nothing worse than cruising the autobahn in your 2.1 million dollar hyper-car, only to be forced off the tarmac by the MESMORIZING grace of a pelican. Add a cell phone to the mix and now we're talking epic fail.
The PAK kit includes:
Side mounted bottle rocket launchers which are activated by a military grade in-motion motion sensor. This is the first step in thwarting the birds attack.
High pressure foam cannon - we don't know why, it just sounds cool.
Cat-apult - that's right, an industry first. What better way to distract a bird than to hurl its natural arch nemesis for an intercept? This roof mounted feline -powder actuated device can hold up to three (3) large house cats or one puma. (disclaimer - handling a puma can be very dangerous, so have a neighbor do it)
Finally, you vehicle will be equipped with an AK-47 assault rifle. This is not for the Pelican. This is for PETA, Al Gore, or that douche bag from Cheaters....Joey Greco.

Lemme tell you, that video of the crash is the bane of that car owners existence. His insurers are going take that little video all the way to the bank. What a toolbox.
And I love you're guys site! added it to my aggregator ! Keep up the great work!
28. Rob Hope - November 14, 2009 3:18 PM
Now he might be able to afford the car in the future and one day it really will be his!
29. werd - November 14, 2009 3:19 PM
@ 16. the front wheels...you know, the ones that turn...they are not locked. i'd say they did a pretty good job towing this mess out. it was pulled out of a fucking lake.

it's a SCAM
31. Thinker - November 14, 2009 7:11 PM
Wait why didn't the boy with the vid contact the bughatti owner with a little blackmail? Even half of the cars worth would have done it. Now he has to buy a new one and the guy behind the camera gets nothing. I say: FAIL

35. shitzangiggle - November 14, 2009 10:13 PM
@32 I believe they are texans which explains why they don't know the difference between a $100k and a $2mil car (rounding up/down).
Is it just me or was there NO pelican in the video at all, it just looked like he started veering off road like he wasnt payn attention
36. beep - November 14, 2009 10:42 PM
@33 Yeah, most cars have features so not anyone can just tow the car away.. and by the look of it something was getting fucked up.. the back tires should be turning? or am i wrong???
anyway, i have an older car that got flooded and was in just as deep of water(by looking at the video) and it still runs fine today.
37. staplerzzzz - November 14, 2009 11:12 PM
Seriously who cares if he thought if it was a lambo or not, it's an expensive car that only a .1% of the world population will own. As far as I care there really isn't a big difference in technology once you reach above 100k, so a car going for 1mil looks pretty damn similar to one going for 100k. Except for the whale penis leather seats of course
38. Lizzie - November 14, 2009 11:26 PM
I didn't even know that car existed until last week, so I don't really care if he called it the wrong name or not... in fact, I bet most people on here wouldn't even know what kind of car it was if it wasn't said.
39. Bdubilly - November 14, 2009 11:36 PM
um, the post about this first said it was worth 2 mill. now you say its worth 1.6 mill. thats a $400,000 difference...
40. mark - November 15, 2009 12:56 AM
lambo wtf that clearly a bugatti
41. JJtoob - November 15, 2009 1:33 AM
I don't know much about cars either, but I know epic fail when I see it.
42. JJtoob - November 15, 2009 1:36 AM
Wait a minute, they came back and recorded the towing, with cops watching. Yeah, that's a no go for the blackmail plan. I'm sure the video was considered useful as soon as the police saw they were recording.

If I drive my -97 Volvo into a lake, no one cares... This is so wrong.
46. TS - November 15, 2009 6:15 AM
You know what's funny.... if you look at the video of the crash you'll notice that his spoiler/air brake wasn't deployed when he was driving. Allthough, if you look at the video frame-by-frame, you might get the impression it only deploys the moment he hits the water. So either it's a safety feature, where the car uses the air brake because it just plumited into friggin water and wants to swim to the shore, ooor the knob behind the weel was trying to deploy it manually and then succeeded... at which point he hit the water.
Oh I'd be interested to see what the insurance people think of that video :D
MWHUHAHAHAHAHAHA idiot. No I'm not jealous; I have 4 of those.... pelicans.

If I owned that car, I would NEVER take my eyes off of the road. That thing is way too powerful to be worrying about pelicans or your cell phone or your penis. The relationship between money and intelligence is not always positive.

He hit something when passing the post, just when he was pulling even with the folks with the camera. You can see it splash on the road. Still, that was a long ways before he went off the road.
60. emptyaddy - November 16, 2009 12:18 PM
Given the ratio of production:idiot owners this may very well be (statistically) the most crashed car available followed by the Enzo.

how many people can comment saying "what an idiot calling it a lambo". I would not know either i don't search cars i will never have...
64. G - November 16, 2009 10:02 PM
Ok, first off to the driver... Your an idiot. But secondly to all of you who say the person towing the car, your stupid. Take a look at the front wheels their obviously not locked up, therfore, he can turn the car. Idiots.

@51: No, a lot of people would film a 2 million dollar car if they ever saw one.
67. Eric - November 16, 2009 11:09 PM
That's just criminal in my mind! Who would crash a 1.6 million car to avoid a so called pelican?
68. Mr, 200 - November 16, 2009 11:44 PM
What a nice car. Too bad it ended like this. I mean, who will spend a million on a car which seats have been soaked with dirty water.
69. ObamaPacman - November 17, 2009 1:27 AM
@44
The spoiler for the Veyron comes up when it goes above a certain speed. (similar to some Porsche).
Normally the spoiler would retract after driving awhile, but a crash would not give it enough time for retraction of spoiler.
70. ObamaPacman - November 17, 2009 1:29 AM
OOps:
Normally the spoiler would retract after driving awhile [at slower speed], but a crash would not give it enough time for retraction of spoiler.

Just so all of you "look the tires aren't locked" guys know, that car is 4 wheel drive. They probably didn't put tow hooks on the car because it wasn't meant to be towed and it probably messed with the airflow somehow, who knows, but no tow hooks means you need to hook to something so the wheels it was. You stop the back wheels, you're going to stop all 4.
74. Darren - December 10, 2009 1:24 PM
If you want to see a Veyron treated properly, check out Topgear.com or catch them on BBC America on Monday and Friday nights. This isn't an ad...just a good idea.
75. Noah Vale - December 19, 2009 11:09 PM
