All of you "windows haters" are a bunch of fucking retards. Windows owns most of the market share, and about what, 90% of software out there is windows only, Yes, Windows has it's faults, but I've seen more then one little stupid error sad face on a mac, and my fair share of being stuck at a terminal with no X11 with nix, get over yourself, and to the douchebag who said "But he's failing to keep up with actual professional artists." You're a tool, in these times, all the fucking operating systems are on the same level, yes quite a few years back, Mac was better for Image and Video editing, now it's the same fucking thing. Go ahead and spend 3-5x what the hardware is worth for a "pretty" OS that doesn't run most software, and there's a good chance you'll end up running bootcamp to load windows so that you can use windows apps, shut the fuck up. Windows does have it's issues, and I will say I still favor Debian to any OS out there, but 7, at least at launch is leaps and bounds ahead of the Vista launch, and while there are some that'll stick to XP, the lifecycle is over and MS won't support that OS for long, so either A) Go empty your bank account so you can inflate your ego and become a dick and think you're better then everybody else because you have a mac, even though the only things you can run, are pretty much the shit Apple gives you, B) Switch to linus, enjoy your repos and freeware software, but deal with sometimes iffy driver installs, and still a lack of software, C) Stick to XP and eventually be one of those annoying jackasses who wants support on 10 year old software because you're too fucking stubborn to get with the times, or D) Install 7, get used to it because that's the way things are. Mac users, don't even bother to reply until you can buy a Mac for about 300 dollars. (Won't fucking happen)
