I'd like to take this time to thank all the brave men and women who have served this country. You're the ones that have made the freedom to write whatever I want a reality. My sincerest thanks.

Much respect to the Vets and active duty members. We are forever in your debt!

true that.

::toasts our brave vets:: This highball's for you!

Respect and honour to all servicemen alive and dead throughout the world!

uhmmm, freedom from what? The British?

salute!

Thanks to all who gave some, and the some who gave all.
Thank You.

pew pew!!!

"if you dont throw in your $1.05" who will"

..seriously though, i have 2 brothers serving right now

one in afghanistan driving a tanker truck

one in iraq training police officers

i have unmeasurable respect for them both

To those brave men & women, both past & present, I thank you & your families for your service and sacrifices. I extend these thoughts to those of other countries who have fought along side our forces for a common cause as well. As for my own service, it was a great privelege and honor to serve this great nation and its people. My only regret is that I couldn't do more.

"Your enemy's duty is to die in defence of his country. Your duty is to see that your enemy does his duty."

Thank you ladies and gentlemen for doing your duty.

My Dad, and both grandpa's served and are serving in the Canadian Military.
My thanks to all the brave men and woman who fought for our freedom.

SEMPER FI!

nice picture, too bad the quote is wrong.
"Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway"

Agreed.

and let us hope that the people of the US won't elect a war-loving president ready to abuse that courage again.

its Remembrance day, Veterans day is only for panzys

GW, your respectful tact never ceases to impress me. It's good that there are people out there who know when it's time to laugh and when it's time to show some respect. Kudos.

And to everyone who has helped keep this soil from being taken over and dominated by some malicious tyrant, or cast into a chaotic state of communism, I sincerely thank you.

Here's to democracy!

also everywhere but the US(dicks) uses this day to honor the holocaust victims

No conspiracy here, thanks to all the Veterans that have served and are serving. @9 and anyone else who has family or friends serving. I wish them all a great day. Thank you.

Much respect to all those in the service, my GF's brother is a marine, and might get shipped out. I only with I have the courage to do the same. Keep on keeping on.

@18 was that really necessary?

Freedom costs a buck oh five.

@18
Just plain wrong. 'Everywhere else' you mean just the common wealth countries use this day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War by using the term "Remembrance Day"... It is also known as Armistice Day for people like the French, Poppy day for people in Malta

Yom HaShoah is the day to remember the holocaust victims...

Much love and respect for armed forces of today and yesterday for any nation who fights for peace on this day.

"also everywhere but the US(dicks) uses this day to honor the holocaust victims"

So we're dicks for honoring the defenders of our soil over foreign victims? where's the international remembrance of the victims of Pol Pot or Stalin? Why just the Jews? Of course it was a horrible event, but suck a dick if you expect me to choose a foreign victim of a foreign sociopath over a U.S soldier.

@18
You're absolutely right! The US are such dicks for ignoring that Remembrance day (or Veterans day, whatever) is all about honoring the victims of the holocaust! I mean WTF, America? When King George V of England established Remembrance day in November 1918 he was so concerned with honoring the holocaust victims he created a holiday a good twentyish years before it was even needed! America, stop being so obtuse by thinking that this holiday had ANYTHING to do with the end of World War I and all the servicemen that have come since.
Good for you, Jacob, stick it to the man!
Ass.

Thank you everyone for the respect you have shown here. I am in the military and you guys just saying thank you have shown more respect then what i seen earlyer today. Lets just say when the flags are being marched by dont honk your horn wanting to get by.... She knows better now.

Thank you everyone.

Rememberance day is to remember all of the vets and to remember everything that happened not just the people who didnt come home but for the things that made it so they didnt.

i have a buddy stationed in Iraq, i have no idea how i could reach him tho : (

my sincere thanks to Kiko and the rest of the US military kicking ass and taking names so I can sit on my ass and play games

@16/18

FACT: You'd be typing that in German right now if not for us "panzys".

Oh, and btw, I seriously doubt they would've allowed for any type of remembrance. So why not just take it down a notch, and let us ALL be thankful that things turned out the way they did, without trying to piss in someone else's post-toasties.

For what it's worth, since you most likely couldn't care less anyway, April 21 was set aside for Yom Hashoah (next year the 27th of Nissan will fall on April 11). We will NEVER forget the atrocities and loss of the victims in the Holocaust, and therefore the memory of our fallen Jewish brothers and sisters will continue to live on.

I think its great the amount of respect that is shown in this post... Its so like Americans to rally and kick ass against someone who wants to disrespect.

@29

I am Canadian lol

I just like people showing respect.

That's not how posters work

Wow. This is by far, one of my favorite posts on this site.

All of my successes and victories and every burden I have ever and will have ever carried are deeply and sincerely humbled by those of our military.

Much respect, love, and gratitude to all who have served and are serving this country.

There's no way in hell #18 & #24 are the same person.[/sarcasm]

LOL the U.S. can suck my ****
and those veterans that died haha im alive and your not!!!!!!!!!

GeekologieReader1Five10Eleven, I dearly wish anonymity was not a factor in this crazy world of switches and vacuum tubes. It really bums me out to see such a negative post, but if that is your opinion, I still choose to defended it. But God help you, if my crazy texas roommate were to ever find out from what parent's basement you post from.
peace

Killing people in other countries because wartime is profitable for the economy is not heroism.

@36
Ya your not its not. But defending others in a time of need is. Can you really say going to war to stop Hitler was not heroic?

Thank you for this G Writer, it means a lot to us when people go out of their way to say things like this.

My great Grandad (still alive) served in World War II, which is the biggest reason that I pay my respects to veterans. I called him today to wish him a happy Veterans Day :)

As a VET myself I can say that, to hear people say 'thanks you' and how much 'they appreciate what we have done' are some of the most complimentry words someone could say. It makes it seem like all the BS(which there is alot of) is somehow worth it. Thank you Gdub and thank you posters... and while were saying thanks(and to add a touch Geekologie humor) thanks to STOMPY's mom for all the support she has shown to our soldiers and sailors. lol!

Thank you.

Your welcome.

gotta love FREE SPEECH!

about veterans. This whole day is pointless.

As a US Marine, First off this is one of my favorite sites, Second I thank all of you on behalf of all veterans and those serving now, And third, For all those who posted rediculous negative comments, you think your so tough because you "Dont Care"? Step in our shoes. Hell I havent done anything in Iraq that compares to what the veterans of all nations did in those historic battles like the civil war and world wars 1 and 2. I cant even do anything but show veterans the utmost respect. Some of them never asked to see or do any of this. So I ask you. Step in our shoes. See what we see. And hope to god it never gets as bad as what they had to see back then. Your all a bunch of little kids who have no clue what true strength is no matter if you believe in why your using it or not. So go ahead and believe that you dont care. I hope to god theres a draft and you get called up. If I ever knew who you were Id laugh in your face. You have no idea about the realities in this world beyond your computer screen and school. So again. Step in our shoes. And if you cant. Shut the F*** up.

Thank you GW, and all the posters on here. Geekologie Pwns <3

Haha. Good one. :D

Is it possible to have tremendous respect for soldiers, but hate war at the same time? I appreciate what soldiers have done i just wish they didn't have to do it. No one should be put in those kinds of situations, i know for a fact that i couldn't handle it, i would probably cry like a little bitch

Thanks for all the votes of support. I'm currently in the USAF, far from home...but to this day I'm still in awe of the soldiers on the ground, patrolling everyday. As another aviator once said, "The mission is an 18-year-old with a rifle".

Thanks for all you ground-pounders do.

Also, thanks to GW, who brightens my day every time I visit the website. It makes being thousands of miles from home just that much more bearable.

Excellent post - much respect to our veterans.

Come on, this patriotic nonsense is tired. whether government sactioned or not, murder is murder.

this is a WWII picture you asshole. November 11th is for WWI!!

Well, I appreciate the soldiers who were actually fighting for their homes and family. I appreciate these men.

This makes the fact the US get so excited about this funny.
The soldiers who are fighting needless wars, torturing inocents, and this probably because they're too dumb to study? Why would I care about them.

Oh yeah, they're fighting over my and US's freedom. Bullshit. And btw, the US isn't remotely as "free" as most of you think.

As long as we're talking about WWI and WWII, where dedicated, hardworking people genuinely fought to protect their country's freedom.

I have no need to mourn those who make a conscious, dangerous and irresponsible choice to participate in illegal, immoral wars.

Veterans suck since they waster their live in war for this "country" and didn't get to actually live. And I'm 13 so I don't live in a basement I live in a room!!!!!
But I am very mature for my age so go suck a dick!

Wanna be Veterans!

I would like to thank the service men and women who have given our country their loyalty, compassion, duty and sadly sometimes their lives. Please know that whether you are veterans or are still serving you have my respect.

BTW: It was a little difficult not to make this comment a righteous indignation against detractors. Some of you are American and some of you aren't. But as I'm sure you don't care about my opinions, don't be surprised if a VAST majority of people don't care about yours.

Thank you. We fight for the right to have things like geekologie. Keep it up!Airman Fleck

Here here!

America!!

"But I am very mature for my age so go suck a dick!" -In all sincerity, that is a very ironic and funny statement. So it is now my turn to thank you, sir! I had a great chuckle after reading that; thank you for making an airman's day a little brighter. Your service to this nation will not be forgotten.
good luck

I love how once I said veteran's day is stupid, a ton of people jumped on my bandwagon. Awesome!

@57 - Wake up. If the powers that control this world didn't want us to have Geekologie, we wouldn't. End of story. There are no rights and there are no freedoms. It's just that the people in power don't give a shit.

@16/18/24/29/34/36/44/50/52/53/54/55

Veterans day wasn't always veterans day. It used to be Armastice Day, in honor of the conclussion of WWI, the Armastice was signed on the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month. It wasn't until the 50's that congress changed it to Veterans day, making it a time to honor all veterans. In countless battles the US Military has proven time and again that we are more than willing to stand up for what is just, and right. The US Military is in addition to being the greatest fighting force ever to exist is also the greatest provider of foreign aid and relief. Making it not only combat effective, but absolutely versatile in the global role it plays. The picture is from WWII, from a notable, historic and significant battle. One that is iconis with what it means to serve.

When you lack the courage to fight for what you believe in, for the libierties and freedoms you have, then you do not deserve them. If great men did not stand up to defend them for you, they would most certainly be torn away.

Though the freedom we cherish here in the USA has been deemed by some of you as "not true freedom" when compared to the governments, or lack thereof, in countries around the world our system is the beacon of hope. Every year thousands of people commit themselves to mass migration into this country, because they know and appreciate what it means to be an american.

For those of you who are Americans, shame on you, I hold you each accountable for your lack of respect. You are soft, plumped up by fast food, and instant messaging, your sense of entitlement, and the fact that you never have to work for anything you have leaves you aimless, and unappreciative of what you do have. You are not able to recognize the very basic rights that men and women have shed their blood over. If given the option to burn a flag or to spend one weekend in class I fear you would burn the flag, if only for your "free time" because that is something you can't live without?

I echo the comments of my marine brother (@45). I hope that the need for a draft never does arise, because right now the men and women are noble, intelligent, and patriotic volunteers. Willing to go and perform the duties of an American. But it would do the youth in the country too much good not to consider a form of conscription. Mandatory service to the country. Even better if it were military service. The lessons taught, and skills learned are invaluable. The simpliest way to solving the problems of our nation is to turn our nation into one of patriots. You should be so lucky as to don the Uniform.

@47

Soldiers are the last people to want war or confict, they would much rather not have to fight, but know that they must, for the ultimate good.
Further, I strongly believe that all people have what it takes to serve. The strength is one of character, it comes from your core. You may think you would crumple under the circumstances of war, but inside, every human, programmed to protect himself and his brothers, will find a way to rise against the adversity.

Bless our soldiers. My brother is currently serving with the Navy in South Korea. My father served in the Air Force, his father served in the Army. My mother's father served in the Marines, her brother served in the Army. My grandfather was a survivor of the USS Drexler in WWII, and is one of the final living survivors today.

Political opinions on war aside, I am nothing but grateful for what the men of my family have sacrificed to give me what I have today.

the only things that i kill in the name of my country are bambi's

@61 OOOORRRRRAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!

O.K. GI Joe (@ChiefHendo), you are very sentimental about this day. Thanks for the information.

I have many in my family who are or in the military. Thank You to all who serve.

Freedom from what?
The most powerful country in the world claims to have plenty of aggressors, how ironic.

i have unmeasurable respect for them both.
