Oct 10 2009They're Good For Something: Dead Fly Art

Dead fly art: it just makes sense. Now I don't really want to go into the kind of person it takes to collect dead flies and glue them to a piece of paper to make "art", but suffice it to say they're our kinda person. Plus, I really dig the final results. Well, except for the moth in the last piece -- didn't see that one coming!
Hit the jump for a whole bunch more.

@7 artists find time to do all sorts of creepy things, hahhahha.
i can't believe how humorous these are! I think they'd look really great in a shodowbox frame for when they're up on the wall.
at least they're conversation pieces.
Do PETA supporters throw flour at the people who make and display art with dead flies in it? Or maybe it doesn't count if they were already dead when he/she found them? Or maybe he/she has to WEAR them. Dead fly sweaters, FTW.

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back own where Max needed to get somewhere so he went into the grocery store, and got some kaiser broiler foil, and some aunt Jemima syrup,. and a pair of blunt scissors. And in the parking lot of the grocery store, where nobody was looking, he cut out some really, really, really nice wings, and he covered them thoroughly with foil! Then he took those wings and wedged one under each of his powerful arms and sneaked into a telephone booth. And then he shut the door! And he pulled down his blue denim policeman type trouser pants, and he spread even amounts of AUNT JEMIMA maple syrup all over the inside of his legs! Soon the booth was filling with flies! He held open the legs of his boxer shorts so they could all get in, and when each and every one of those little flies had gone into his pants, and they were lapping up all that maple syrup, he bent over and he put his head between his legs and he said in a very clear, impressive, RON HUBBARD-type voice: "NEW YORK!" And the booth and everything lifted up, out of the parking lot, and into the sky!

Firstly, this is both disturbing...and strangely cute.
Secondly, the moth at the end just creeped me out. "Hey, little fly, you want some candy?" He's the pedo of the insect world.
Thirdly, Daisy was in rare form today...and it actually made me laugh.

Is there a dead fly serial killer that Fox News(pfft!) have not warned the public about? Or is this a government cover up too?

I HaTE FLIES! so yeah, I loved watching them be humiliated in such a way...he..he..DIE Bastards.
48. livingjetlag - October 11, 2009 4:12 AM
I wonder whether the idea came first, or the bucket full of dead flies that someone had lying around for some unthinkable reason. Or maybe someone found himself standing near the school's bug zapper, praying for a miracle, 15 minutes before his summer class art project was due. Based on the level of technique in the pencil elements, I would guess the person is more "cartoonist" than "artist."

ok just a note these are not photoshoped at all. It is possible to have different direction in shadows if there is more than one light........ it is too easy to mount bugs and or do art like this without the hassle of photoshop. Besides i'm sure if they photoshoped them they would have given all fly's legs instead of just a few. Very creative fun works! Slightly disturbing.........but mostly just fun!
52. KarenC - October 11, 2009 1:24 PM
@48 .. i say both.. he is surely creative!
love it! ^_^
53. britt - October 11, 2009 2:54 PM
ewwwww thats gross... they must have been REALLY bored!
54. thisisonlyatest - October 11, 2009 3:31 PM
Honestly, this reminds me vaguely of another fly torture device that I saw in a catalog once. It was a "fly sleigh" or something. It was a fly-sized glider with tiny wires with which you could capture houseflies and attach them to the sleigh and then when you released them they would buzz about pulling your sleigh...
Crazy? Well, yeah... I am a little, but a little insanity never hurt anyone (although it can be fatal in large doses).
55. ciao - October 11, 2009 3:43 PM
lol, did kind of the same thing as a teen. Squashed a fly in my notez book... and drew a comment box "ow".
the last pic of this gallery is cute.

If those were puppies instead of flies this wouldn't be concidered cool. It would be concidered cruel.
Why is it that desecrating some animals is fine, but not others?
62. G - October 15, 2009 2:52 PM
This made me smile.
63. Black Faith - October 15, 2009 5:51 PM
That is so cool! do you just glue the dead flies on a piece of paper and then draw legs and feet? if so that is really cool! :^D
