Oct 23 2009Okaaaay: Kenwood Mixer/Cooker Combo

Kenwood, a company best known for making the aftermarket car speakers in the back of my truck, is making this kitchen appliance. The Kenwood KM070 Cooking Chef is a mixer/cooker combo, capable of mixing shit together and then heating it up to 140°C (240°F) so you can eat it and get all full and then sit around watching TV with your hand in your pants. I've seen you before! And I liked what I saw.
It looks like your standard mixer, with a large 6.7L bowl capacity and 8 mixing speeds, but it also features an 1100W induction heating system that allows you to cook food directly in the mixing bowl.
Temperatures can be set between 20°C to 140°C for warming or actual cooking, and there's even a steam basket attachment allowing you to prepare an entire meal without ever turning on the stove. The only downside is that once again convenience doesn't come cheap, so you can expect to pay around $1,600+ for the Cooking Chef.
I honestly don't know anything cooking except eating pizza and ice creams, but maybe this is a handy appliance. I don't really know how, but maybe it is. But hey, you could write upward of thirty pages about the things I don't know. Why is the sky blue? Why is water wet? Why did Judas rat to Romans why Jesus slept? Kidding, I know all those. I'm sure there's something though.

They had me up to the $1600 part....thennnnnnn, they lost me. It's not about the cash, it's the principle of the damn thing. I mean, are you shittin me??! $1600 for a mixer that happens to heat shit up too?!?!
Ah well...probably not my cup o tea anyway - I mainly just eat fruitloops and fried bologna sandwiches. DON'T JUDGE!

It's kind of strange that there's a British company called Kenwood, founded by a guy called Ken Wood, which makes some pretty decent kitchen equipment. Then there's a totally unrelated Japanese company called Kenwood, which makes novelty keep-in-the-shade kitchen stuff like this.

That's the same thing as a Bimby or a Thermomix. I have a bimby and love it.
9. Leo N. - October 23, 2009 7:05 PM
That's not Goliath's Bimby, it's his Thermomix!

I really can't picture a valid use for this besides dips and sauces, and even then it seems like it'd be equivalent to cooking in a microwave. There's no substitute for a pan, perfectly balanced ingredients, honed timing, and lots of cooking wine. Lots and lots of cooking wine. Maybe even put some in the pan.

@10: I agree with every word, John, especially the wine part.

My girlfriends all have the 350.00 mixer... I have refused to buy it..(although it comes in pretty colors..)
Honestly, It takes 3 min. to mix a cake..5 min. to mix potatos...whip cream is a bit trickier... However, who cannot hold a hand held mixer for that long??
One needs a machine to hold the bowl and the mixer????
This is silly!
@10 The only use would be sauces...and thats not worth 1600.000
Bread?
Bread has to be kneaded at certain intervals...but does it have a timer? Does it bake bread.?..A decent bread maker stars at 120.00 So; This is a waste of time and money.

eventually this gadget will get some horrible glitch, and you'll end up with heated flaming spinning machine heading towards you!
Yeah first thought that came to mind after seeing & reading about this device.

@naas...
Vagina to you naas.
And no, I'm not scared. I was just expecting you to ridicule me for something or other lol.
17. Blastphemer - October 24, 2009 2:40 PM
I've rethought my previous sentiment...
Well...hell, crack ain't gonna cut and cook itself!!! One batch and you can more than pay for your new mixer/cooker toy.
@12 - seriously? Just stay "jodie" already...you've been through the fire, why not be able to relax now and have some fun. Besides, most of the time you can tell who people really are by their posts anyway (please reference the whole slew of doppleganger naas, lsdiesel, stompy and a few others I believe posts from last week or so - not all that confusing for some). PS. How's the hangover from all that vodka?
18. jodie - October 24, 2009 2:43 PM
yeah, the hangover sucks!! I've decided to start drinking early just to
get rid of it...and its my birthday so, I may as well stay drunk all day!
19. Blastphemer - October 24, 2009 3:08 PM
YESSSSS! Cheers darlin'...to the greatest hangover cure EVER invented: MORE BOOZE!!! Happy birthday! Now then...bust out an ice tray & a straw, and get those speed shots goin' (one for each year +2 for each kid +5 for the husband, and you've got 30 seconds to finish....ready????....wait for it.............wait for it...................GO!!!
20. RT - October 24, 2009 5:21 PM
It is useful for things that require mixing while heating such as pastry cream or roux pastry. i can see how it would work, but for that price i doubt any pastry workshop will but it...
21. bluehost host - October 24, 2009 6:50 PM
I like it.
22. jodie - October 24, 2009 8:55 PM
@23 O.k I tried... I got to 7 shots... If I took the suggested amout I'd die.........

Not this first comments again... But we should have that for hot chocolate in the winter when your all cold because you played snowfights... Makes me think of the old days where I did do that...
26. Blastphemer - October 26, 2009 9:22 AM
@26
I'm not trying to kill you. I was just trying to help you get your birthday off to a quick start. I honestly didn't expect you to make it past 5, then go off to throw on an Otis Redding album, and dance around till some friends showed up.
8??? Whew...must've been some kind of party! Hope you had a good one (if you can remember any of it). Cya around the boards.

@RT ....knows what's up. I take it you do a lot of cooking.
This would also be good for other confections...especially heating things like baking chocolate.Yum!
However, unless i had a high end restaurant kitchen, there is nooo way in hell I would pay that much.
