I think the reason why it looks symmetrical is because the bite actually happened on the side opposite of the camera angle. Imagine something goes to bite you on the side, you'd turn into it and kind of compress that side of your body.
I wager that the other side of the shark (the part in the water at the moment) is literally GONE!

Well its a 10min walk from my house but the storys been blasted over the local news for days.

We got shark nets but the big buggers can break through them(Protecting most of the main beaches on the Gold Coast)

Australia has a few nastys but not that many people die from shark attacks even though we have sharks everywhere.

NOT fake. We breed em big down here hahaha. The shark half eaten in the photo was ALIVE when it was caught. I was on a 'drum line'. (NO not a bunch of snare drumming fools). Down here we set up baits on lines suspended from bouys and line them up out off popular beaches. Its to stop these things coming in and chewing on people. They get distracted by the baits first.

This one was caught on a drum line (ate the bait) and usually they are hauled up, towed in and disposed of. This one was in the process on being hauled up from the depths when something took a liking to it.

They have analysed the bite marks and the teeth markings are consistant with a great white, NOT a killer whale. The shark in the pic was just on 3m long and they estimate the happy snacker to be around the 6m mark. or about 4/5ths the size of the one depicted in the Jaws movie.

We're getting more and more big sharks in and around our coasts because of the recent fishing restrictions put in place on our east coast. Theres a lot more 'snack food' around.

I was almost worried about going to the beach, then I remembered that the shark is in QLD, not NSW. Therefore awesome beaches like Bondi, Coogee and Cronulla are safe :)

I tried to look this up on other sites to get some validation but every one has this same picture with the same interview. And this interview and photo looks totally bogus.

Maybe I am just too sceptical but wow that photo looks terrible. And in this day and age, where technology is everywhere I find it hard to believe that they would get one guy to snap one weak ass photo and call it good. So I am gonna call this fake until some more proof comes along.

Fake! The story claims it was alive when taken onboard. If it was still alive then the massive bites would be bleeding profusely and the water would be tainted red.

It's funny that there's a handful of you that find this to be genuine. That's not what the inside of a shark looks like & sharks don't usually got tattoos of tinted upside down triangles behind their gills

Not sure if this pic is faked or not tbh. From everything I've found, it appears to be real. As far as the lack of blood goes...that would be expected from a massive wound such as this - would not take very long at all to completely bleed out. I have also seen pics of human shark bite victims, and would have sworn that their insides did not look all that recognizable either, if not for the sources of the photos having been completely reliable I may have called bs (and in this photo, most of the insides are obscured by the wake of the boat).

Guess we'll see over the next few days, after more reports and/or pics start coming in. Till then...the shadows look just about right to me.
