Oct 20 2009It's About Time: An Affordable 3-D Copier

You see that guy in the picture? You know what he's doing? He's making a 3-D copy of his genitals because his office just installed the new ZPrinter 350 3-D copier. And now you can too for the low, low price of $25,900! The device can recreate any object put into it's scanning bay out of plastic. Unfortunately, the thing can only copy units smaller than 8 x 10 x 8 inches, so mine's out. HIYO!

I've actually used a machine similar to this one, it takes forever to make small parts that break a little bit too easily. If you want a 3D printer that isn't a ripp off make your own, this website will tell you how.

@15
It can print computer generated 3D models in this weird plastic stuff, so parts can be made and tested without being fabricated by another company which saves time

It prints 3d models in either hard plastic (like styrene) or this plaster stuff (users choice). It takes information from a 3D program (usually Rhino) and prints your 3D model in chosen material. These prototypes are rough, it actually builds it layer by layer from the bottom up, so they must be sanded, painted, etc. You could then make a silicone mold out of it and cast it with a stronger material (if it needed to be functional as opposed to aesthetic/mock up).
My school has a couple of them so I get to play with them :)
