Oct 14 2009Bottle Tops: Because Cans Can Be Tricky

Bottle Tops are plastic lids that snap onto aluminum cans. You know, because you're too special needs to drink out of a can without spilling. Jesus, ask your mom for a sippy-cup already. However, if you absolutely must, a 12-pack of different colors will set you back $10. But be warned!
But seriously the tops of canned drinks can be really dirty; one commenter on Boing Boing Gadgets agrees with me and gives the thumbs down to the Bottle Tops as well. But the others say that it's perfect for beer for a couple of reasons - one, because it keeps the carbon dioxide from escaping, so you don't have to worry about not being able to empty huge cans of booze, and two, because if you cover the can itself the bottle top makes it look like you're drinking an energy drink.
No. But you know what IS perfect for beer? My mouth. Which, MEDICAL FACT: is also perfect for burritos!
Hit the jump for the terrible tv commercial.

Keeps the bees out, and keeps you from spilling.
5. Timbo - October 14, 2009 1:11 PM
That's great, until it pops off while you're drinking it...

I had something like this before, the biggest problem with them was that you had to push so hard to get it on, so it would form a seal, that you would accidentally crush the can.

Can you run that commercial again? This time add some Mentos.

And if you like to drink on the beach, and some beaches (I'm looking at you, state of NJ) don't let you drink alcohol..... so you'll need some of these.

Ever get a moustache hair caught in a pop top? Makes my eyes water thinking about it. Still wouldn't buy this piece of crap though. Seriously...what kind of demographic are they shooting for, aside from the people who save open cans of soda in their fridge?
12. f - October 14, 2009 1:36 PM

13. j - October 14, 2009 1:42 PM

Now THAT'S funny...someone using "LOL"s calls someone else a faggot???!!!
Seriously though...people still use that word? I haven't heard it since Dire Strait's 'Money for Nothin'.
Good thing I had a Bottle Top on my can of Mtn Pew, or I would've knocked over and spilled the damn thing all over my desk laughing at the irony.
Dumb asses...gotta love 'em.
Again...good luck with that whole hate thing you got going on. Hope it works out for ya.

I don't want to be "that guy", but I remember seeing commercials for these years ago. Why not just buy a goddamn bottle?
23. Shenron - October 14, 2009 3:59 PM
I got one of these from a truck stop a couple years back, and I only use it on trips where I'm bringing a case of soda cause if there are not enough cup holders someone's going to spill... beside that, its gay!

I work at Bed Bath and Beyond. We just got these in, and they sell for almost 6 bucks a peice! This is a good deal. someone should call and order them, then return them all to the store for store credit without a receipt! Haha,,,,ha....

33. HUP - October 14, 2009 11:59 PM
Won't all the germs from the top of the can just end up floating around in your soda?
34. Zarah - October 15, 2009 3:19 AM
This thing was invented here in Oregon and has been in stores for years. I was surprised to see them on a commercial for the first time a few weeks ago for an invention company.

I think it's a interesting and useful invention with one major flaw:
if you want freaking bottles BUY BOTTLES IN THE FIRST PLACE
37. Sid - October 15, 2009 12:23 PM
Looks like it would be great while riding the lawn tractor and not having to worry about grass and dust in your beer/soda can.... or like others say buy bottles... but looks worth a shot.
38. Jonathan - October 15, 2009 2:35 PM
This would go great with my Jesus Juice and stop all the kiddies from spilling on the carpet.

Where I work, we are not allowed to have open containers (i.e. not covered with a lid) outside the breakroom. These caps let us still have cans of soda or energy drinks out on the floor. And buying cans of pop is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the overpriced plastic bottles.
40. Raven Daegmorgan - October 16, 2009 1:53 AM
These are awesome for Shasta...which doesn't come in bottles (least not around here)...stupid lack of bottles! Now I can have Shasta in a (fake) bottle!

Buyer Beware! I can find a can in my cupboard that this brand fits! There is another company who makes them and they DO fit but they have a screw top. Bottle Top brand will not pop on any soda or beer can I've tried! It's a great idea but this brands stinks and doesn't work.
