Sep 9 2009Sticking It To The Man: Guy Dons Monkey Mask To Avoid Paying Speeding Fines
Guys, I know I said I'd have the haiku graded by last night, but I still have 200 to go. Then, I have to choose 4 out of the top 100 I've pulled aside. I WILL DO IT TONIGHT, I PRETTY PRETTY PROMISE. That said, some jackass is speeding around Phoenix, AZ wearing a monkey mask to avoid paying speeding-camera fines. To date, he's already been sent 37 tickets.
"Not one of them there is a picture where you can identify the driver," said Dave Vontesmar, a flight attendant who works at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. "The ball's in their court. I sent back all these ones I got with a copy of my driver's license and said, 'It's not me. I'm not paying them.' "
"We watched him four different times put the monkey mask on and put the giraffe-style mask on," Officer Dave Porter told AZcentral.com. "Based on surveillance, we were positive that Vontesmar was the driver.""It's obviously a revenue grab," he said of the new photo-enforcement program. "They're required by law to ID the driver of the vehicle. If they can't identify the driver or the vehicle by the picture, what are they doing to identify the driver?"
Really -- monkey and giraffe masks? Save 'em for the bedroom, Dave.

I love it!!!! To hell with the police, all they want is the MONEY!!!! Unfortunately all you have to have is a pulse to be a police officer, smarts are not required which is why they are all dumbass bastards.

You say "guy dons monkey mask to avoid paying speeding fines" but you have exactly no way of knowing who is under that mask.
WITCH HUNT!
9. Birr Crinton - September 9, 2009 12:10 PM
so basically this guy got plastic surgery just to avoid speeding tickets? that is redinculuks. why would you want to look like a chim-banzy or a jurraft? i hope they capture and kill him.
10. PB&J - September 9, 2009 12:13 PM
Trust me the average beat cop does not want to be out there hassling you or dealing with these narcissistic drivers. The money grab and nanny state you so willingly blame on joe-cop is mandated and expanded by your elected officials...in other words...us...joe-public...supposing you even voted.

@2. You're under arrest, shit head. Keep your hands where I can see them. GET DOWN ON THE GROUND. Put your penis in my vagina then my mouth. I'm going to let you go with a warning this time.

Stickin' it to the man! This guy is awesome...
14. Lizzie - September 9, 2009 12:30 PM
I think he's a douche bag. he is purposely wearing a mask so he can speed, without getting in trouble. Laws like those are put into place to protect people. he's either going to kill someone, or get caught by an ACTUAL cop, not a camera.
All they have to do is look at his regular patterns, where he goes a lot, and wait for him.
btw, how does he explain his car?

Nice ride, I wonder how much I can get for it at the Police Impound Auction!

This seals it. From here on out, I'm driving around town with a Barbie mask on. And a martini in one hand. BOO-YAH!
17. Milkman - September 9, 2009 12:48 PM
Hating on the cops is lame. Without them our civilization would probably tear itself apart. They're unsung heros. They don't get the respect Firemen get because they have to play the part of good cop who saves you, but bad cop who keeps you in line when you do something wrong. And they're just enforcing the laws your ELECTED OFFICIALS put on the books... if you don't like it, quit whining like a baby and VOTE.
As for this douchebag, assuming he gets off because they can't ID him, I see them slapping him with a giant obstruction of justice charge and more when they ask him "So who borrowed your car 37 times?" and he has no answer.
18. Timbo - September 9, 2009 12:55 PM
Cops shouldn't act like righteous douchbags and bend the law and maybe...just maybe they'd get some respect.
just sayin'...
19. Daisy - September 9, 2009 12:58 PM
FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie NEver BAck Down where MAx was racing a bullet train with a car, and he used a mask to thwart the Japanese speed cams.
20. lalalalalala - September 9, 2009 1:01 PM
THERE SHOULDN'T BE RED CAMERA LIGHTS, PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
GUESS WHAT, PEOPLE WILL STILL SPEED.
GUESS WHAT, PEOPLE WON'T PAY FOR TICKETS MAILED TO THEM.
GUESS WHAT, IT MAKES POLICE OFFICERS RELY MORE ON MACHINES TO CATCH SPEEDERS.
MAKE COPS DO THEIR DAMN JOB!!!!!!!!!
21. Ollie Williams - September 9, 2009 1:02 PM
@17
"I let my friends borrow my car all the time. I don't recall who borrowed it on the dates of the tickets."
Done and done. It won't even go that far, since the tickets and court hearings will be for the owner of the vehicle. The problem the courts face is that the owner doesn't have to defend who was in the car, just that *he* was not in the car.

Grocery bags are the new couture fashion.
23. Conti - September 9, 2009 1:13 PM
I live in Phoenix and thos cams are annoying. I've been flashed a few times but if you just throw them away they wont come after you for it.
24. paul - September 9, 2009 1:15 PM
@17 - You only think that way because you or a family member has never been beaten by police because they mistook you for someone else. How do you think civilization worked before a socialized police force? We managed to make it all the way up to the 1500s without them.
25. john - September 9, 2009 1:23 PM
There are good cops and bad. They do not have to give you a ticket but they do. Money, Money , Money. Oh yeah and about the voting, that really helps when they are all idiots. If they don't make new retarded laws they can't maintain the votes they need to get elected again. This country is full of pansies that are scared of everything. Cops are not heros just because they are cops. They are doing nothing more than what they are paid to do.
26. NinjaLlama - September 9, 2009 2:04 PM
Yea, I don't think you guys really understand the traffic cameras in Phoenix. They're a replacement for cops, there are magnetic strips in the ground which they close freeways to install making it a royal pain to get around, a private company runs the cameras while taxpayers foot the bill, and then the flashes are so bright you can see those things go off a mile away, and people are so nervous about them they create choke points in the freeways, and on really terrible days like holiday travel weekends can create a half a mile backup for no good reason.
Now the other craptastic part about it is there is ZERO DUE PROCESS. You aren't SERVED a ticket, you are sent one in the mail. To top it all off, "speeding" isn't a set mph over the limit, but rather a consideration of what is reasonable and prudent. Officers can make that distinction, while cameras cannot.
I flip off the cameras when I drive by the 13 of them I pass on my commute, why? Oh, because this private company also runs a 24/7 VIDEO FEED from the cameras as well.
27. freeyourmind00 - September 9, 2009 2:22 PM
you'd figure they could ID him because his car. Unless he's going to say some guy in a monkey mask stole his car, sped around and then gave it back to him at a later date. He might be able to get away with that, pause not.
28. Manroot - September 9, 2009 2:24 PM
Hey Idiot Morons...
Nobody voted on those cameras, Janet Napolitano had them put there without the consent of any voters. It is a cash grab, plain and simple. Phoenix is in trouble, our unemployment is record high, and these cameras are robbing the drivers of our state from money they could be spending on their families.
Before you say "Then don't speed." Know this: The cameras are arranged in a manner that works as a speed trap, first raising the speed limit to 65, then dropping it to 55 at several points on the 101. The cameras go off at 11 MPH over the limit, so even if you were going 67 by the first set, the second set would get you for 12 over.
This guy is a hero, and we should all follow his example. I think local companies should give out speed camera masks with their logo on them. C'mon GW, get on board! Make a Geekologie Speed Camera mask!
Also, you really don't have to pay the tickets ever. If you don't respond to the letter they send you, they'll send a process server after you once, and I hope we've all seen enough TV shows to avoid those clowns.
29. Lizzard - September 9, 2009 2:28 PM
I'm surprised GW isn't all over this. Do you understand what these are? These are robots trying to be judge, jury, and soon enough executioneer of the human race. Soon they'll be self aware, start flashing everyone and altering the data, photoshopping your face in so you can't fight it. So I say everyone don your monkey masks, make them think we're primitive so they don't enslave us as hard.
30. ANONAMOUSE DOOD - September 9, 2009 2:30 PM
@everyone defending cops.
Cops are assholes and abuse their power. They will tail gate someone until they speed and pull them over for speeding, or until they break-check the cop and then the cop will pull them over for reckless driving. They speed and get away with it but will pull someone over for going 2 mph over the speed limit (my friend got a ticket for that). So yeah, as N.W.A. would say fack the police!
31. Lizzard - September 9, 2009 2:42 PM
#28 I'm in Phoenix too, these things are a danger and ONLY used as a cash grab . Besides the danger of the slowdown each time we all get close to one, the flash is blinding, startling, and stressful (if you think it somehow flashed you whether you're speeding or not). I've had them go off twice when I was clearly not speeding at all, so they are no doubt flawed, thankfully I got nothing in the mail. I only got flashed once when I may have been speeding... but still nothing as far as I know. May be due to having my face obscured behind a helmet. I kinda want to go set them off for fun and have my helmet on, and also reach my foot behind my license plate to cover that. Then again I also want to pull over with a giant hammer and go to town busting the sh!t out of the cameras. Down with robot police!
32. NinjaLlama - September 9, 2009 2:45 PM
@31
Sounds like you'd like the Camera Fraud guys. They went around last Christmas putting boxes over the cameras that are on public property (not the freeway ones). But yea, we all remember the dude who went after the camera on the north loop 101 with a pick axe....
http://camerafraud.wordpress.com/
33. Lizzard - September 9, 2009 3:06 PM
@32
Then there was that old guy that went up to one of the parked trucks and unloaded a clip into it, killing the officer inside. Now that would be too far, the officer isn't even working the camera, it's still all automated. But I do completely condone the destruction of these cameras and kinda wanna donate to a cause that will disable as many cameras as we can.
34. NinjaLlama - September 9, 2009 3:23 PM
@33
I thought that was a Redflex employee in the parked car? Either way, yea, definitely not the way to make the right statement about the whole thing.
The Pinal County sheriff has been saying that Redflex is never welcome in Pinal County, so maybe Maricopa will gets it's head out of it's butt and realize we should've never let them in in the first place.
35. thorn - September 9, 2009 3:34 PM
speeding while wearing a mask sounds dumb
36. RK - September 9, 2009 4:03 PM
I'm surprised someone with the same vehicle type as the mayor in that city doesn't do a little creative license plate editing while wearing a mayor mask and go zooming around.
and the solution to the monkey mask guy is simply to add whatever speeding fees to the yearly vehicle registration renewal cost; thus making the speeding fines assessable to the car, not the person...
37. MonkeyManReturns - September 9, 2009 4:20 PM
Haha, I actually saw this guy on the freeway last week!
38. Jim - September 9, 2009 6:11 PM
"We watched him four different times put the monkey mask on and put the giraffe-style mask on," Officer Dave Porter told AZcentral.com. "Based on surveillance, we were positive that Vontesmar was the driver."
Why are police investigating a non-criminal activity? What judge would authorize such surveillance?
39. Taylored - September 9, 2009 7:37 PM
These traffic enforcement cameras cause more harm than good, in my opinion. I am constantly slamming on my breaks at intersections because you never know how long the yellow is going to last.
I recently just started blowing through them all and trashing the tickets. If they want my money they can bring their happy ass out to my house to serve me.

@ Everyone hating cops
Really? I mean really? Everyone I know has had a bad experience with cops.....so f*cking what. I've had a bad experience with bacon before and that doesn't mean ALL bacon is bad. (if you say that all bacon IS bad, then I will find you and kill you). Stop pretending to be a rebel by hating cops.
@ 24
Do you not understand history at all? Gangs of murders and rapists have swarmed over towns and citys since the begining of man. Saying "We managed to make it all the way up to the 1500s without them", makes you sound like an idiot. Whether you like it or not, police stem the flow of violence. Notice I did NOT say "stop" the flow of violence.

Funny you'd make the correlation between bacon and cops. No pun intended eh?

I think the person is right, this has nothing to do with safety, because there is evidence that states that these thing cause accidents. The devices are nothing but ways to punish the drivers even if they are following the flow of traffic.

He should of worn a pig mask with a half eaten donut in his mouth. The cops would think it's one of them.
