Wow. This guy does not have any idea about ergonomics and how the products are used. I do believe that there is a reason that we dont have dome shaped consoles and a reason why they dont have glass panels as a part of them.

I am not a big gamer, so I may be off base here, but who cares about what the system looks like? It could look like a cardboard box and it would not make a difference to me so long as the functionality was top notch.

Looks cool but definately only as a concept...it would have to be MUCH bigger than a round chunk of plastic slightly bigger than the CD to hold all its hardware! Remember....as graphics get more intense...so do the size of the cards!!

And yes, this is horribly ugly. It looks like an over designed CD player left on my mother's glass chopping board. For fcuk's sake... it looks like my mother's chopping board. It doesn't really give me the impression of a high end gaming console. I've seen USB sticks which are way sexier.

This is a concept and I'm going to wager that Sony would never resort to such a look.
But, OK, instead of talking about looks, let's talk about practicality.
Glass is ridiculously fragile and should not be used for anything you've spend so much on. It could be acrylic, which is sturdier, but I live in earthquake country so I'd expect something a little wider on the bottom. I think Sony would understand that since they are located in an area with a greater threat of quakes.
Where are the R1, R2, L1 and L2 buttons? I enjoy the 4 trigger controller configuration (which is one of the reasons I'm more a PS fan than an x-box humper). now, if they want to make the PSP look like this, I'm all for it (of course keeping in mind that it should be acrylic.
As for the touch screen, I'm fine with that if the whole thing is wireless. I can sit it up on the coffee table if I think my boyfriend crossing in front of the table won't knock it down. One of the best things about the next gen consoles are that he can no longer trip over my cord (or raise his too quickly and trip me with his cord). So what's the plan about cords? Cords+touch screen=shattered glass all over the floor?

Looks much better than that Xbox concept posted previously, still needs some work, but it doesn't look bad!

Beats the hell out of my old reel-to-reel modded up and ROMed to play Coleco Vision. Using iPods for the controllers gives the whole rig that nice retro-to-modern feel.

Acrylic wireless touchscreen might get me to pull the trigger if they were to integrate universal remote capabilities (might justify some of the cost too...those damn things are puh-ricey).

I dunno...just spitballin' here (one of my favorite phrases to laugh at people for using - almost as good as watching someone who uses "air quotes"...just HAD to put that in quotes).

Great, so now the consumer is expected to pay for a completely unnecessary touch screen as well. That will sure help keep the price down. Surely Sony have learnt from the PS3 debacle that yes, people really will avoid buying it if the price is too high.

The PS3 is a fairly bulky console, due to all the hardware necessary for it to operate and perform as expected. While this is a neat design, it wouldn’t be practical. There isn’t enough room to incorporate all of the things that would be expected in the PS4. Now while I may not like this so much as a game console I think it would make an amazing design for a dvd player.
