Sep 17 2009How To Light A Grill With Liquid Oxygen
First of all, I'm not convinced liquid oxygen is real because, if it is, why can't I breath underwater? I want a merman, damnit. But if it is real, this is a video of Theo Gray lighting a charcoal grill with the stuff. Apparently it's dangerous, but I find it hard to believe. I mean, it's just a liquid. Jesus, it's not like I just ate and wanna go swimming in the stuff.

A good trick for getting a charcol grill lit, is to use a lighter fluid soaked egg carton at the bottom of the grill, and place the coals on top of that.
That has always worked for me.

I worked with LOX every day for seven years. That was extremely stupid and dangerous of him. Of course, I've done my fair share of stupid and dangerous things with LOX too.
Even though it is stored at -180 degrees F, it will make heavy carbon items, organic material, and petroleum based products ignite.
I was once venting a 250-gallon dewer and spilled about 10-gallons of LOX on an empty parking lot. The asphalt ignited and burned. THE ASPHALT BURNED.
Dangerous stuff.

One of the first videos I saw on the Internet ( this was mid 90's, dunno if it's still available anywhere) was a group of engineer types doing this at a campground somewhere.
..There really wasn't much left of the pan they used.

I thought this site was somehow for geeks who at list know the procedure to make liguid oxygen, sad...(7th grade chemistry), by the way it's very toxic and the temperature is more than minus hundred of Celsius and definitely you can not swim in it :)
