Aug 2 2009You Did It Wrong: Building Demolition Fail
This is a video of a building demolition in Turkey (arguably my favorite country on rye) gone horribly wrong. Now I'm not saying I could have done better, but I totally could have. With fireworks.
Thanks to Lord Tarl, who once imploded a building simply by looking at it funny (and secretly pushing the detonator).

Two questions:
What on earth was the building made out of that would allow it to roll over without collapsing?
Why arent more buildings made with said material?
3. DoubleP90 - August 2, 2009 3:47 PM
well.. the buildings are done really good overthere if an explosion and rolling doesnt even scrached it :P

That would suck if you were on your lunch break and you strolled on over to check out the demolition that everybody but you saw on the way to work - you're watching, you're watching....HOLY MOTHER OF -

What'd it be like to be inside that building as it rolled.
11. What? - August 2, 2009 4:46 PM
THIS is what it looks like when part of the building is damaged and it falls over.
Can someone please explain why all three of the world trade building that fell over collapsed inward like it was a CONTROLLED demolition?
12. Cracknel - August 2, 2009 4:54 PM
i think it's something normal for buildings in Turkey to collapse :)
13. lolwow - August 2, 2009 4:54 PM
@11
Exactly what I have been trying to convince people of for years... Not worth it though, American's are in general way too close minded and judgmental to accept the truth.
14. Jim - August 2, 2009 4:56 PM
@11 (Can someone please explain why all three of the world trade building that fell over collapsed inward like it was a CONTROLLED demolition?)
Because the inner struts bowed and pulled the outer walls inward.
15. Chuck Nunchuck - August 2, 2009 5:03 PM
Am i the only one that thought it looked like a miniature model of a building collapsing at first?
16. What? - August 2, 2009 5:06 PM
@14 (Because the inner struts bowed and pulled the outer walls inward.)
What, instantly? There was no conservation of energy? Not even the slightest pause in falling as one floor hit the next? Just instant disintegration? I think not.
There is no way that "the inner struts bowed" perfectly 110 times, for each story. It's not just improbable, but impossible.
Both towers had the same luck not to fall and hit anything else? That is such a lie, it sickens me to think that anyone could believe it.
17. Anthony - August 2, 2009 5:12 PM
That's pretty awesome. And #2, I totally agree... they TRIED to knock it down at it didn't go so well, haha. Just had a huge notch missing, like a tree, so it fell sideways. I'd love to see them try to knock down one totally intact. One floor just disappears, all the others fall down one level to take its place.
Oh, and #11 / #16, I know you're joking, because it's a crime to seriously be that stupid.
18. Jack - August 2, 2009 5:14 PM
@14
Unless you're a structural engineer, shut up. Your 9th grade physics has no place in such a complicated event.
Conservation of energy? Do you even know what that entails? At least try to reference some Newtonian physics when you talk out of your ass.

Changing the topic the correct use of terms instead of discussing the actual problem?
Change conservation of ENERGY to MOMENTUM and it means the right thing, and I think everyone can see that. The sentence might have had the wrong word, but the idea is still the same, and is still correct.

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never BAck Down where Max was attacking a castle and came up with a plan, they would build a gift for the attackers and hide inside it. When it was brought into the city they would jump out and surprise them. Unfortunately MAx forgot to explain the hide inside part till after the gift was brought inside the castle.

For once I agree with Daisy. It's got to be fake. I've been in the industry for years now and most walls you can kick over.
Still, it's pretty funking funny. Just like all those 9/11 conspiracy theorists.
26. Gary - August 2, 2009 6:36 PM
Why is everyone assuming that it was not planned that way? The building was notched to force it over in that direction and it ended up in an empty lot. My guess is that they wanted to get the mess off the lot so that they could start building sooner than later. Does anyone have any direct information or is making up info based on no knowlege good enough?

Sweet Jesus...9/11 conspiracy theories? Like, omg, gag me with a spoon.
Onto the relevent topic, this demolition is so epic fail, it's rather humourous. And I would like to know what materials were used to construct this building; I don't think I've ever seen a building roll and not crumble at least a little bit.
35. lolwow - August 2, 2009 9:28 PM
@18
I am currently studying to become a civil engineer at one of the nation's top schools, and while this obviously doesn't make me an expert on the topic, the collapse on WTC 7 was without a doubt controlled.
I am NOT talking about the other two towers (while I do believe these were also controlled, that is not the basis of my argument). Look up WTC 7 on YouTube and tell me that a building can fall like that HOURS after the initial collapses after suffering some debris from the main towers? It doesn't take a structural engineer to question the 'collapse' of WTC 7.
Also, please visit http://www.ae911truth.org if you don't believe that I am qualified and wish to view the opinions of hundreds of certified engineering professionals.

"I am currently studying to become a civil engineer at one of the nation's top schools." - lolwow
ZOMG! You have convinced me! You must be exactly right. Incredibly large buildings in metro areas are never designed to crumble inward instead of topple over in hugely populated areas. Why that wouldn't be a standard for any incredibly tall skyscrapers. As I am sure you have the schematics of the Trade Towers you know the structural integrity by heart. I mean, it’s got to be civil engineer 101 right?
44. SmokingGirl - August 3, 2009 10:13 AM
Beware, Jaded, those conspiracy theorist people, if cornered, bite like a rabid bat.
And also, you forgot to mention the most credible source of information that guy provided; a website totally run by loons. Because, as we all know, if it's on the internet it MUST be true!
*whispers* These "truthers" call the "birthers" illogical and crazy...that should tell you something right there.
45. Pat - August 3, 2009 10:30 AM

49. lol - August 3, 2009 4:04 PM
@43,44
I like how you completely ignored the CONTENT of my post (the argument about WTC 7) and immediately started attacking me personally... If that's the only way you can dispute my claims then I suppose there isn't anything I can say to change that.
Also, the comment about the website was interesting. The previous poster said something like "you are not a structural engineer so you wouldn't know." So now that these HUNDREDS of certified engineers are asking for an investigation, they are "loons?"
I would venture to say that proponents of the government's story are usually the ones to attack like rabid bats when their story is challenged...
50. smallTEAspoons - August 3, 2009 4:43 PM
hey..i m from Cankiri, in that city... this building was built in 1928... see how strong it is :) the closer apartments and area were empty when it was rolling :) noone hurt dont worry... they did not use any explosion or smthng like tnt... see u :)
51. SmokingGirl - August 3, 2009 5:17 PM
The reason why the "content" of your post was ignored is because the whole premise is asinine.
And frankly, my dear, I could give a flying fig as to whether or not you want to believe that 9/11 was an "inside job" as so many truthers put it. But just because you believe something doesn't mean that others have to be sucked into your own personal reality.
Most, if not all, of the supposed conspiracies concerning 9/11 have been debunked, so a debate on the issue is ultimately a waste of time. You will continue to believe what you wish, and the rest of the sane populace will continue to laugh at you and others of your ilk. And as for those "hundreds" of others who are looking for answers, unfortunantly unless the answers corrilate with what you personally believe, no amount of answers will satisfy you.
So believe away in your theories and also feel free to scream them from the rooftops (or hidden behind a screen name and a font on an online forum), but know that if you put something out there, others will disagree. And if that truth is hard to swallow or handle, then may I suggest that you keep your opinions to yourself inorder to save your fragile theories and world view from the snarkiness of others.
52. Freddy k - August 3, 2009 7:02 PM
you said snarkiness. nice
53. What? - August 3, 2009 8:12 PM
I just don't understand why everyone that says the theorists are wrong never actually site any sources, or explain their logic, or explain exactly why "the whole premise is asinine" (looks @ 51).
They only "debunking" that I can see going on anywhere is forum posters calling each other names.
Kind of reminds me of Idiocracy...
"Ah, you talk like a fag, and your shit's all retarded. What I'd do, is just like... like... you know, like, you know what I mean, like... "
54. lol - August 3, 2009 11:00 PM
SmokingGirl, I would really appreciate if you would go to YouTube and look up WTC 7. Honestly, I used to think that all of the 'conspiracy theories' were BS (always citing the Popular Mechanics 'debunking' among other things when the argument came up), but when I looked at the information for myself I realized that there was definitely more going on than met the eye.
Like I said PLEASE just look up WTC7 on youtube and tell me that a building can do that after being affected by a few small fires...
And before you tell me that it was debris, look at WTC 5 and 6. Quite interesting that they didn't pancake perfectly like building 7 after suffering FAR more damage.

Here...now I have provided a "source" for my point of view. And #54, I have looked at all of the jargon that you would like me to look at. Why, you ask? Because I believe in getting both sides of an issue. And that's the problem with conspiracy theories; once you cling to one like a baby monkey, you can no longer be mindful of anything else that doesn't fit your dogma.
When it comes to government, there is much to worry about. This, however, is not one of those times.
By the way, unless I'm wearing my thigh high boots and corset, don't beg me to do something.

57. lol - August 4, 2009 4:16 AM
So you have looked at it, and you honestly believe that WTC 7 pancaked while the other 2 did not (even after sustaining more damage?)?
58. SmokingGirl - August 4, 2009 10:02 AM
Yes, #57, I believe it pancked because of fire and other factors. The other "theories", as it were, make no logical sense to me for a whole host of reasons, including by not limited to, human error. While sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, every now and then, truth is what it is.
59. Michael - August 5, 2009 7:30 PM
There is a big difference between this CONCRETE BUILDING and a steel frame tower. You'd be an idiot to force a conspiracy theory based on this!
