Aug 20 2009Whee!: See-Through WindowPhone Concept

I am back home safe and sound. Geekologie will now return to its regularly schedule program.
The WindowPhone was conceptualized by every single person that daydreams about the future, but designer Seunghan Song actually took the time to create a rendering of it. This is that rendering.
The phone would essentially be translucent, displaying information and images on a window-like surface in a form factor relatively similar to the iPhone's.
The killer feature of this concept phone is its ability to change the look of the display glass to match the current weather conditions of your location (i.e. sunny day equals clear screen, rainy day equals virtual droplets on your screen).
I know how much some of you hate things that are only conceptual, but remember: concepts are what push us towards the future. And the future, as you may know, is filled with giant, terrifying robots. Which is why these designers should all be killed. Also, if the battery dies in this thing you can forget about ever finding your phone again.

too bad it's only a concept
2. pants - August 20, 2009 10:39 AM
ps welcome home, GW
3. wadefade - August 20, 2009 10:41 AM
I'd buy it... then when I sat down I would break it.

So the most awesome feature is that you can tell if it's raining outside simply by looking down at your screen. Don't forget that everything else will be nearly impossible to read since you won't have a consistent background.
I'd be cool with something that thin and maybe a little flexible, but clear? I'm not seeing the point.
5. Dandy - August 20, 2009 10:42 AM
My concept is that my phone is my penis and the GW is always the operator.
And yes its touch sensitive.
6. Bong - August 20, 2009 10:42 AM
Cool rendering though.
7. rusty - August 20, 2009 10:42 AM
yes, but do the conceptual water droplets keep it from catching fire and burning a hole in my car's seat?
8. Taylored - August 20, 2009 10:45 AM
This is completely idiotic.
I just came up with a new concept. Direct information download to the brain.
hmm... let me think of something else that is "amazingly cool."
How about invisibility spray, or maybe an aerosol that makes poop disappear.
9. podstar - August 20, 2009 10:45 AM
um, great "concept" ---> lets hope they "concept" Translucent circut boards and wiring...cos the phones gonna have all that junk, all that junk in the trunk.
10. shadwag - August 20, 2009 10:46 AM
the laptop butt catchers would have a blast with this thing.
11. pants - August 20, 2009 10:51 AM
@9 actually the "concept" is to have the guys located somehwere else.
I know it's crazy, but it's a concept
12. pants - August 20, 2009 10:51 AM
sorry, the GUTS not guys
13. Dishy Dishyington - August 20, 2009 10:52 AM
That's one soft and pudgy man-hand. And look at those nails. I'll bet that guy's never picked up a hammer or a shovel in his life.
14. GoSS Jerk - August 20, 2009 10:52 AM
Welcome Back GW! I missed you. *Tears in eyes*
15. Timbo - August 20, 2009 10:52 AM
I'm fairly positive that they stole that from a Fringe episode....or Fringe stole it from them...
16. WTF - August 20, 2009 10:55 AM
Now THIS is a concept....http://driftwood-x.mybrute.com
17. rusty - August 20, 2009 10:55 AM
OH Crap! it's already 10:55, I'm late for my "meeting with Mm"! better call her real quick... where's that phone now?
18. Dishy Dishyington - August 20, 2009 10:57 AM
And what's that little blue exclamation mark floating near his finger tip? A conceptual alarm clock?
I have a concept. Whenever I talk little balloons full of emoticons and colors will float over my head. And when I point my finger and say "pew" I want a laser beam to shoot out.
19. Timbo - August 20, 2009 10:58 AM
@16 Shut up...you're an idiot and a waste of space. Stop breathing until you can contribute a decent comment...
20. Beeph - August 20, 2009 11:02 AM
where would you even put the battery?
21. naas - August 20, 2009 11:03 AM
Well it looks conceptually impressive
22. Brent - August 20, 2009 11:03 AM
Where is the battery supposed to be located?
23. Bronto - August 20, 2009 11:07 AM
I can't tell if I'm reading Geekologie.com or Dvice.com anymore.
24. Stoned Wallabie - August 20, 2009 11:07 AM
It's only a concept :) means they will try , in that nasty full of killer robots future, to get as close as possible to the concept. Means Apple is going to produce translucent Iphones with a new iWeather app
25. Ollie Williams - August 20, 2009 11:07 AM
I want to lick it.
26. pants - August 20, 2009 11:09 AM
@20, 22 in the future, you don't need batteries... duh.
@25 ur tongue might get stuck if it's frosty
27. Timbo - August 20, 2009 11:10 AM
Maybe it's doesn't need a battery... Maybe when you pick it up your body heat powers it on right then... Maybe...
That's my concept anyway
28. naas - August 20, 2009 11:10 AM
@25 you're not supposed to share the codeword to Ollie's secret pillow party here WTF!? Do you want 900+ people showing up tomorrow night? I think you do
29. Stoned Wallabie - August 20, 2009 11:13 AM
@25 there's a mod for the Weather app, its called iAlcoholic. Droplets are made of booze and goes threw the window via nano holes so you can get your dose of booze everytime it rains. ( go live in northern scotland )
30. steve - August 20, 2009 11:17 AM
Soooo where do the sim card, batteries and electronics go? :(
31. Adam - August 20, 2009 11:26 AM
Concepts that show how something works, or that actually work themselves but aren't economically feasible are nice. This however, just appears to be a phone drawn on a piece of glass with some guy talking it up as the next big thing.
They say all these things about what it will do, but that's already been done, they are just regurgitating what's been done in any SciFi movie that has a see through hand held computer. They aren't saying anything about how they will do it.
It's just painted glass.
32. billy gates - August 20, 2009 11:27 AM
Holy hell. I just photoshopped some graphics onto a piece of plastic I found in the cafeteria trash can last week too! I knew I should have patented that shit. Oh well, my next concept will involve a bottle of water that, when you're done drinking it, converts into a car that can take you home from work by using the paper wrapper on the outside as fuel. Yep.
33. Rich Waffle_U - August 20, 2009 11:28 AM
@30 - The sim card and all that junk goes in the conceptual bin, because this is a conceptual future where everything is see-through. Magical nanobots do all of the powering and whatnot. See-through magical nanobots.
34. dunno - August 20, 2009 11:36 AM
Is everyone on this talkback smarter and more of an asset to the world and society at large than designer Seunghan Song?
I, dunno.
35. Superxcm - August 20, 2009 11:37 AM
Check the nokia morph video on youtube, and some interview talking about it... it s reel and it's awesome!!
36. $.02 and a pocket full of FAH-Q - August 20, 2009 11:45 AM
You won't need a battery, they will convert the power source to run on your blood.
The real question is : Where the hell do you mount the spare tire?
37. marissa - August 20, 2009 11:54 AM
this dosn't look breakable or anything
38. Ollie Williams - August 20, 2009 12:14 PM
@35
No it's not, it's still a concept, and an early one at that.
39. cmyk_josh - August 20, 2009 12:20 PM
I'm sick of Korean and Chinese designers coming up with these concepts and then dropping them on the world as though they actually invented something. You've invented NOTHING -- you've drawn a flipping picture. It's like the guys behind Voltron actually suggesting they made a concept for giant fighting robots...but not as flipping cool.
PS. Can haz word filter nao? My fingers don't like typing "flipping".
40. Zelemihr - August 20, 2009 12:24 PM
I like that it comes with a see-tru battery, see-tru circuitry, see-tru wiring, and a see-tru charger port. The future truly is amazing.
41. Wendy - August 20, 2009 12:24 PM
I would lose it, it would be gone.... I have enough trouble finding my blackberry, seems like everyday it goes missing somewhere.
42. BusterHymen - August 20, 2009 12:26 PM
@8 -- Dude, invisibility spray was already my concept from yesterday. Today's concept is AirBoots that actually DO float on air. Imagine: you not only FEEL like you're walking on air, you really ARE walking on air. I drew a picture on an Arby's napkin so it must mean that I invented them. They're nuclear powered, of course. Sweet!
43. mr cow - August 20, 2009 12:29 PM
Moo
44. Lisa Visconti - August 20, 2009 12:38 PM
If you buy me this I will send you pie pops. lots of them.
45. Graf Zeppelin - August 20, 2009 12:45 PM
Hey. I have a concept: Let's cut out a plexiglass rectangle and put a seethrough sticker of phone functions on it.
46. supernova_hq - August 20, 2009 12:50 PM
Yeah, sure, let me know when they invent transparent silicon chips, bluetooth/3g chips, wires and oh yeah BATTERIES!
This is a LOOOOONG way in the future if it will ever be invented. At the very least you would need an opaque section to hold all the electronics (transparent screens themselves do exist).
47. confused - August 20, 2009 12:55 PM
Since when is a strange interface a concept. This device does nothing new...it just looks different. Thats no concept at all.
48. Pedo Pedro - August 20, 2009 1:15 PM
don't put it in your ass
49. Ollie Williams - August 20, 2009 2:12 PM
Not sure if anyone else has said anything about it, but WHERE ARE THE BATTERIES?!?!?!!?
50. Watch-303 - August 20, 2009 2:36 PM
COOL! FINALLY HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THESE!
51. mila kunis - August 20, 2009 3:38 PM
i have a hard enough time finding my friggin phone - now it's gonna be almost invisible too!!! Aw Crap!
52. kyle - August 20, 2009 6:30 PM

54. Samuel Baulch - August 20, 2009 8:39 PM
Am I the only one that thinks it's weird that it's covered in water??
55. DeeplyTroubled - August 21, 2009 12:30 AM
Why are electronics so sweaty in the future?
56. Miaoudeminou - August 21, 2009 4:08 AM
For all your needs so that you don't fall into the sewer....this time.
57. Jaded Icon - August 21, 2009 6:54 AM
I thought this is supposed to be from the future!!?!?!? Where's my damn novelty eagle head!?!?!
58. $.02 and a pocket full of FAH-Q - August 21, 2009 11:27 AM
Dude! Just realized - this would've been nice for the idiot moron who fell down a manhole while texting...
59. Mmhmm - August 21, 2009 5:04 PM
My phone is just like that concept. Except my phone is thicker than that, and it's not clear, and it has a battery, and it has a different interface. But it's basically the same.
60. geekogie - August 23, 2009 6:18 AM
