Aug 13 2009Pen Lets You Draw With Any Color You See

First of all, thank you all for the kind birthday wishes. I just went through and read them all and that was some seriously sweet shit you all said (I'm so eloquent). I almost cried, but then I wrestled a bear (and won) so that I wouldn't. But seriously -- thanks, I had the best birthday I can remember in a long time. BUT NOW IT'S THE 13TH! And you all know what that means, don't you? International Left Hander's Day! Two days in a row, baby!
The Color Picker pen by Jinsu Park is a drawing device that allows you to write in any color you can scan with the pen's color sensor. You just hold the Color Picker up to something, push a button, and PRESTO! it mixes the right amounts of blue, green purple and yellow to make the brown you were looking for. Unfortunately, the Color Picker is currently only conceptual, UNLIKE MY CEREAL PICKER! It's a spoon that, when you think about a certain kind of cereal, fills itself with that kind! I use it to invent new delicious breakfast morsels. *concentrating* Okay, so this one tastes like shit -- you've gotta try it!
Hit the jump for a couple more shots.

color picker pen might make that box of 120 crayons obsolete [technabob]

4. enigma - August 13, 2009 9:57 AM
Conceptual - great.
5. enigma - August 13, 2009 9:58 AM
Great was meant to be sarcastic. Like, "I never know what to expect from Daisy!"
6. Kite - August 13, 2009 10:00 AM
Okay, something that is "conceptual" does not actually exist, even in prototype form. I love headlines that mislead you into thinking a product is real (And yes I know it says it's a concept in the article).
Also, that pen could never work. Red, green, and blue inks do not mix to form standard colors. That pen would need standard printing inks (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) to actually work.
Neat idea in theory though.
7. Goss Jerk - August 13, 2009 10:04 AM
GW, why are you up posting so early????? You should still be wasted.... or did you find dinos in NY and pull an all nighter?????

11. Coffee Addict - August 13, 2009 10:12 AM
Today... had coffee in the morning as usual... and realized my stupid let´s say... -he-who-makes-big-problems-out-of-nowhere-... told me I was going to change place again next to an annoying little teenager who likes to talk to himself and flirts with whoever is around... so I nicely asked what could have been done and -he-who-makes-big-problems-out-of-nowhere- said just ask somenone else and that´s it, I found two people and he started just going around and says the pros and cons had to be taken into consideration bl abla bla... I'm tired of working with this moron... he totally contradicts himself.... If I could just erase him or at least not work with him... anyway... any suggestions in how to cope with this something? ... I might get a tshirt stating... I work with stupid and I'm not happy about it....
btw... the pen looks cool
Happy Left handed day" :)
12. Goblin - August 13, 2009 10:13 AM

13. dubba - August 13, 2009 10:13 AM

@11
BURN it Down.
15. Rich Waffle-U - August 13, 2009 10:18 AM
OMG! What if you held it up to the light? Would it draw something that emitted light? Or what about holding it up to the infinite void of space? Vacuum creating pen.
Or would it only ever draw brown?
16. gizmoduck - August 13, 2009 10:19 AM
pretty rad. do want pen
17. naasⁿ - August 13, 2009 10:19 AM

19. Goss Jerk - August 13, 2009 10:25 AM
@ 11 ... I feel your pain.. i wouldn’t like to sit their either, I avoid walking down that corridor just so I won’t get dragged into a droning monologue of your new "next cubicle neighbor

21. Eskimo Dave - August 13, 2009 10:30 AM
Conceptual products are stupid. I could come up with some outlandish "concept" products, too, but they'll never see the light of day, because they are just ideas, not real things.
22. Timbo - August 13, 2009 10:33 AM
@11 Who doens't work with some kind of douche?
I know... as a matter of fact he;s probab;y looking over my shoulder right now b/c he can't mind his own frikkin business...

36. naasⁿ - August 13, 2009 11:05 AM
That's it, got it!!! Now I can sleep peacefully. And by that I mean with a machete under the pillow & a grenade launcher on the bed stand.
STOMPY thank you, you're my hero of the day & definitely earned a 'naas reacharound surprise' at Ollie's tomorrow night
37. Pat - August 13, 2009 11:18 AM
Happy International Left Hander's Day!
Also, where's Daisy's comment? This is ripped right from Photoshop!
38. Timbo - August 13, 2009 11:20 AM

40. Gordon "Fücking" Shumway - August 13, 2009 11:27 AM
@STOMPY
The next time you post pictures of titties, please lable NSFW or YAY TITTIES! Also, how do you keep finding pictures of me on teh intertubes?
41. Bender - August 13, 2009 11:50 AM
Nice concept. Here's some other concepts:
1) A floating car
2) A button that lets you travel faster than light
3) A magical orb that lets you see into the future
All good ideas, but nobody knows how to make them, so what's the point in spending ages making a prototype of something that doesn't actually work? Get back to the drawing board, stupid designers. I want you to find a way to grow jellybean plants by harnessing the power of pixie laughter.
42. Gordon "Fücking" Shumway - August 13, 2009 11:55 AM
Me after a night of drinking.

c. h belated b, gw. come collect your present any time. wink!
46. RGB Nut - August 13, 2009 12:41 PM
RGB ink?
Some concept, doesn't even realise that inks (reflective colours) work best in CMYK and it's transmitive which works best in RGB (Monitors, Projectors etc)
Dumb ass
47. Hawk - August 13, 2009 12:58 PM
Transmutive even....
Probably because the CMOS sensor has only RGB outputs. DUH!!!
48. arhjay - August 13, 2009 1:10 PM
This gives new meaning to "Can you paint with the colors of the wind" or how ever that pochohauntas(sp?) song goes.
49. tRRDA Clone1 - August 13, 2009 1:27 PM
it's like that part in total recall where the receptionist points to a color on a board and points to her nails and they get painted that color.
50. Gerbos - August 13, 2009 1:55 PM
Left handers are right.
51. Jaycob - August 13, 2009 5:49 PM
@RGB Nut
lol dumb ass?
jealous you couldn't think of it first eh anyways you idea is dumb the pen would be all fat and ugly with the extra ink cartridges... like your mom... oh and tell her ill have her 5$ next week and remind her about the disposable enemas we made quite a mess last time
52. z4x0r - August 13, 2009 7:12 PM
Holy shit! Someone else recognizes Lefty Day? Is our beloved GW left-handed? :D
53. kate - August 13, 2009 8:08 PM
lefty high five* :D
dont worry about the pen guys. if the asians can make robotos they can make ink jet sensor pens. just give it time.
54. alphabet - August 14, 2009 1:35 AM
yeah, i got excited - heck that's really cool! the goddam future is finally getting here! and... conceptual. so, it's just an idea - it's kinda bullshit. i mean, i'd like a box that i can take anything out of - that would be great - but i'm not distributing a press release about it.
55. Agent 365 - August 14, 2009 2:13 AM
first of all, is the ink quick-drying? because that would be a lefty's wet dream. second... HAHAHAHA FOOLS! WHO'S WRONG-HANDED NOW?!
56. popopopoop - August 14, 2009 3:55 AM
I agree on the stupidity of RGB ink... Idiots.
Though it's a cool idea, and if they make it (with right inks obviously) I will buy one.
57. Jaded Icon - August 14, 2009 6:34 AM
@ 55
Still you.....
58. Lucinda - August 14, 2009 7:11 AM
Am I the only one who watched "Home Improvement" here!?! (mmm JTT still melts my panties). this is not a new idea, it was on Tim's crappy ass show, and they made paint out of it. and then he typed in the pre-scanned color "Al", and it was flannel when he painted it on the wall .... bwahhh ahahahha. ahead of it's time!
59. Evil Jim - August 14, 2009 3:42 PM
What a tard product designer -
Dude to mix ink you need CMYK not RGB - -
60. Kira - August 15, 2009 4:24 AM
WANT.
61. Juru - August 15, 2009 11:36 AM
Great idea! Id certainly buy one.
62. S - August 15, 2009 3:26 PM
Replace a box of crayons? Never! Crayons are much more nutritious!
63. Ckinrun - August 17, 2009 6:57 AM
@6 Are you retarded? Red Green and Blue, and be mixed to create ANY color hence the RGB code.
For example:
00FFFF = Cyan
0 parts red
225 parts green
225 parts blue
Must I say more?
64. Bogaman - August 17, 2009 10:54 AM
@ 63, 6 I just noticed the RGB thing too, those are the primary colors only when mixing LIGHT, like on a computer display or in theater lighting. Remember when you were 5 and mixing paint? The primary colors were Red, Yellow and Blue. Green was a secondary color. So 63 you are wrong for a pen that mixes ink to draw on paper. Cyan (blue), Magenta (Red), Yellow and black are the colors an inkjet printer uses to print any color. Watch who you call retard, geek. The colors in the real word outside of your computer display are different. Log off WOW and take a walk. And please don't judge others when you, like the designer of this pen are speaking outside of your league. This thing could only draw in browns, purples and blacks.
65. Ragnar X - August 17, 2009 11:01 AM
This makes total sense.... like remember in school how they teach you about the three primary colors, red, green, and blue... and how you can mix these in different combination to achieve any color in the world. Try it at home... take some red, green, and blue paint and try mixing them to get yellow. Thats an easy one!
I know I'm not the first to call out the RGB vs CMYK stupidity... but come on! like how the heck can a company be taken seriously with a magic pen when they dont understand what we all learn in kindergarten. Also, how did the guy who made the 3d concept rendering of the pen (an artist) no catch it?? or if the pen really is cmyk, and the guy f*cked up when doing the 3d model thing- how'd they not catch it... this is so dumb its amazing.
66. KidKobun - August 17, 2009 1:33 PM
OMG! We are now one step closer to pigment manipulation. Pretty soon we will be able to change the color of our clothes, cars houses, etc. with the push of a button!
67. stupidity required - August 17, 2009 7:34 PM
You won't have much success mixing red, green and blue to make ink colours. This is why we use cyan/magenta/yellow/black in printers - even still, you still can't get a wide gamut until you're using a few extra colours such as adding orange, green, dark blue and a vivd red to that mixing pool.
68. kombizz - August 19, 2009 4:31 PM
I would love to buy if it is not very expensive.
69. shazaam - August 20, 2009 3:56 PM
Since when can people make cool renderings of totally impossible, idiotic things and pass them off as "concept products"? Check out my magic jet-powered rainbow blowjob pants! They rock! Assholes.
70. CadeRageous - August 25, 2009 1:26 PM
Wow! This is brilliant, except that the ink can't be RGB. It could be RYB or CMYK (preferred). Mixing color of light (RGB) and ink is totally different.
71. whacko - August 26, 2009 9:06 AM
@63 ...why don't you mix me some yellow ink with your red green and blue inks...
why do inpossible unreal inventions get so much attention. There should be a prerequisite at every industrial design school that you product must have a plausable way of working before you can submit it for a grade.
I can make shiny white things with bright color accents that do nothing too. Doesn't mean I should be praised for it.
72. Ash - August 27, 2009 4:36 PM
CMYK not RGB
73. shiloh - August 27, 2009 5:38 PM
ooh i want 1 pen thing
