Aug 19 2009Is This The New PS3 Slim? (Yes, Yes It Is)

ps3-slim.jpg

Sorry folks the internette at the hotel was bitchtitting me this morning so I just gave up and came to LaGuardia to post from here. Don't think I forgot about you. I could never. Anyway, I'll post as much as I can before my flight, and Geekologie will return to its regularly scheduled program tomorrow.

Soooooo, this is the new PS3 Slim. The 120GB console will be available the first week in September for a price cutted $299. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL THEY CUT! The unit is 33 percent smaller and 36 percent lighter than its chubs predecessor. So what does this mean for you? It'll be easier to lose. Hell, I even thought the original PS3 was too small to keep track of. WHICH IS WHY I GLUED IT TO THE COUCH.

Sony Announces Slim PS3 - It Lives This September! [kotaku]

Thanks to Mr. Tiddles, catch22, Nate and The Superficial Writer, who tape their consoles to cinder blocks. Hey, that works too.

Well, there's always something new, smaller and cheaper around the corner.

i just ate three of these on my lunch break.

Reading the reviews, not a lot of people like this model. It's louder (both the Blu-ray drive AND the cooling fans), it's not as attractive switching from a piano black finish to matte, it has less USB ports, and the cool touch sensitive controls for eject/power are actual buttons now, which makes it feel cheaper.

The only benefit I see is that it's smaller (which really, who cares), and it's less money for a larger hard drive.

*shrug*

GW is blocking my comments. Why???

Here's my blocked comment (bad language):

Have you tried disguising your URLs? You might try these:

http://anonymizer.nntime.com/
http://www.hidemyass.com/

Both of these allow you to enter a URL (about halfway down the page). Push the button and they'll serve the page and make it look like it's from somewhere else.

Should work unless IT blocks these too.

nice http://kyle143.mybrute.com

warning to those looking to buy one in sept... the ps3 slim will also have a 250GB version of the slim for a christmas release

Here's the rest of my blocked (bad language) comment:

Try entering a URL like this:

http://www.geekologie.com/

What exactly is 33% smaller and 36% lighter? Give me the actual number please!

Dishy - you had too many links in your post. That's why it was blocked.

PS - My IT blocks those sites.

GFS - I miss you man.

GIMMEE!!!!!!!!!!

@16

@19, I thought that too, but there were 3 URLs and the post-a-comment notes say "you can put up to 3 URLs in your comments". And it gave a reason: profanity. It thought it might be one of the URLs had "ass" it it.

For your information, it can't even play PS2 games :(

No, you're right, must be the number of URLs.

25 - The number of URL's allowed includes the one allowed in your name.

I was at an airport once.

Grr. I wish I could have paid less for this, I don't care if it's noisier.. long as it isn't more buggy. I wouldn't even mind the cheap buttons. I like to know when I'm pressing something. Wink.

@22 & 16

You can upgrade the hard drive any time you like. It's not an xbox. It's very easy. Granted I have an old one, it has been confirmed that you can still upgrade if you like. I bought a 20 gb model at launch for 600 bucks, lol, but it's 500GB now, so I can't complain. just used my old pc drive.

Just figured I would let you know so you don't end up spending an extra hundred bucks on 130GB more. Right now on Tiger Direct you can get a 500GB sata for under a hundred bucks.

Websense calls it "Proxy Avoidance"

there are a huge number of these proxy sites, like btunnel.com, ctunnel.com, actually most letters of the alphabet...

this cant possibly be a good idea. cheaping it down to the xbox's level and making it more easily overheated (like the ps2 slim). its like an anerixic. its better with a little extra weight.

Arrrrgggg! I just bought one!

@34

Proxy Avoidance sites are all blocked for me. I have yet to find one that works.

ah, the slim version. Pretty much an indicator they bettered the system. Usually the first of every system is fairly bulky and quite slow until with further work they better the existing goods. ....that's why I pretty much wait tell they figure out all the bugs a few months after they publish any new system.

there you go folks, some curious info behind electronic goodies.

@40
I wouldn't say this is the better version, this is the cheapier version. The one I bought orginally had 4 usb ports, memory card slots, and was backwards compatible.
Now it has 2 usb slots, no memory card slots and it isn't backwards compatible. So this is nto the best version. No doubt it is good, and for the price better, but still not the better version.

@41: I was wondering what features were being cut for the slim version. Hrm. I really wished PS3 would've thought of this earlier--offering two different models instead of one. As much as I love my PS3, I don't use a lot of the features (prolly 'cause I split my gaming time between this and my 360), and getting a "slimmer" PS3 woulda been easier on my wallet. :[

Lack of backwards compatability means making it slim is pointless. When I put my PS2 on top of it, it'll be just as big as the phat PS3.

@ 42

I understand that from a consumer point of view 2 versions would be great to choose from. Which is why they are doing it now. But starting from that is a risky proposition. It is always a gamble to put new consoles on the market. Lots of questions that need to be guesstimated. Is there enough publicity? Did we make enough? Did we make too much? How will the market react. And the list goes on and on. So having 2 versions would be doubling the risk without finding out if the market would even want it or not. After all have we not learned from Atari or Sega?

Thanks for the sharing your opinion with every one.Daily thousands of new electronic products and gizmo's come in to the market and i guess PS3 Slim is not a big deal.

its also an inch smaller, on 2 sides, and and 1 inch bigger the other way. so its 1 inch smaller. is that really something to rename it slim. i think should be called chubby or chub. if the first one is fat. i dont know. i will buy it when it is around 150 bucks. cause i think thats the real value of the thing.

Must See

review is on, the things you come up with are dsfsd

Well Sony PS3 comes with more affordable price and its slimmer and more compact design attracts me.It has all games in high-definition and also easy-to-use interface.The most important thing is it does not need any external power supply and have free online gaming service.
