Aug 28 2009I Could Do Better: LEGO House Construction

Remember the story about the house in Britain that would be constructed entirely out of LEGO blocks? Well this is it, mid-construction. I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed that it has a wooden infrastructure. I thought the whole damn thing was gonna be LEGO, right down to the john.
This two-story Lego palace, which resides in the middle of a vineyard, sports a working bathroom, and is covered inside and out with bricks pieced together by 272 Legos. Over three million bricks were used to build the Lego pad, so doing some quick math here -- that's over 816 million Lego pieces!
I have no idea whether the math in that quote I used is correct or not, the important thing is that it's Friday and I am putting pants on for the first time this week and getting the hell out of here. Town, prepare to be painted red! With vomit. I like fruity drinks!

Thanks to jessica and Rogefgv, who once built a house of K-Nex but it was blown down by the big bad wolf and then he ate them. The end.

In response your stupid dance video
I hope this is a joke because if it's not then it's just sad.. I know I'm not a surgeon... I don't cut people open. I know I'm not a fire fighter... I would just walk past a burning house. I know you're not a dancer... you should figure it out too and never dance on video again. For the sake of all that is holy please delete yourself... from the earth. Dumbtard.

What would a fire do to all that plastic? Why, it would go up like... well like sheetrock and wood I guess. Lego stove? "Mommy, I don't feel right."

Ahem. No, no, no, we don't do that here. That's what we in the medical profession refer to as Stupidcockbreathloserinsecurewasteoflife-itis.
It's a medical term.

hrm, perhaps they'll have lego furnishings to redeem the wooden frame?

the wood may be a tempporary scaffolding in order to get the walls up. it should be structurally sound when finished. and of coousre they would have to build the house to code. andi dont think lego infrastructure would be allowed

I wonder how the weather would affect it.
nonetheless still pretty cool, I'd wanna spend the night there lol

I can't believe nobody's mentioned that the owner of this house is none other than Top Gear's own James May, a.k.a. "Captain Slow".
18. Amy - August 28, 2009 11:08 PM
The math makes no sense. I think it's made out of 3 million individual Lego, or about 11,000 normal bricks. Don't tell me there's nearly a billion anything in that little thing.

Hi commenters, I'm actually on the team of lego creators who are building this thing and in response to the queries about the wooden infastructure we had to have it else the house wasn't allowed to be built, the insurance companies are arseholes!
Also, the maths was wrong in that quote, there were only 2 million lego bricks (of various varieties) ordered and we recently had to order a few thousand more. The breezeblocks that build the wall are made up of 272 lego bricks each and there#s a fair few thousand in all the walls.
And if you're wondering about the toilet, yes it is fully made of lego, I've seen it :)
As is the bed, sofa, chairs, tables, washstand etc
Hope this helped :P

Also! The weather has affected many of the bricks unfortunately and some have been thrown away due to warping, it also gets pretty damn hot in that house!

i volunteered to work on the Lego house, but the sessions were only an hour long, so wasn't worth the effort/cost for me. maybe next time.

Wooden infrastructure is lame. Get a real Structural Engineer on your team and have your design stamped. Then tell that insurance company to eat it. There is no challenge in this if you frame it with wood.

Are you guys union? Because the only pictures I could find was you guys just sitting on your *sses doing sh*t. Even when your playing with legos you have 7 1/2 hour coffee breaks.

I'm curious who exactly this Giant Lenin character is, because those of us working on the project have been asked not to give details of it online. For what it's worth, the only correct number I've seen anywhere on this is that one large brick consists of 272 smaller ones.
34. Milkman - August 31, 2009 1:14 PM
I think it'll leak energy (heat, cold) like a sieve.. hopefully they took sealant precautions in the "bricks"
35. Alexander - September 2, 2009 12:28 AM
Wooden Infrastructure might just be there to assist in the construction and slowly removed as the bricks amass to be more load bearing.
36. Badwolf - September 6, 2009 1:13 PM
FFS . . .
its LEGO . . . . there's no such thing as LEGOS
LEGO is a brand name like Kleenex it has no plural.

Hi everyone, House is now finished. Final filming was this morning (sat 19th).
The finished house looks awesome, inside and out. I personally built the flushing loo, working shower, iconic red chair and the main Art piece in the house. The Art piece is a highly detailed to scale replica of 'Devastator' from the latest Transformers movie, 'Revenge of the Fallen' and is due to go up for auction soon. Any questions you can contact me at krcdesigns@hotmail.com. Kev.

Forgot to mention that images of the interior have now been posted on the BBC Top Gear website, you'll get to the Loo, Red Chair, Bed, Kitchen, and the Main Art piece. Enjoy! Kev.
