Aug 28 2009Future Farming: Giant Fish-Filled Ocean Balls

According to experts at National Geographic, the future of fish farming (aquaculture) may rely on giant, fish-filled balls floating around in the ocean.
...[A]utomated cages could herald an entirely new form of fish farming.
They might be turned loose to mimic natural systems by following carefully chosen ocean currents. The robotic fish farms could help lead to larger, healthier crops of farmed fish far from crowded coastal areas, where farmed fish both suffer from poor water quality and, by producing waste, add to water woes.Cages might even generate their own electricity by harnessing solar energy, wave energy, or other forms of renewable power.
This reminds me of middle school. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? You are if you answered "cafeteria fish sticks"! Loved those sticks. One time I even had a fish rock! I chipped a tooth and lost it in my corn. Chocolate milk, whee!!!

You know what I loved about school lunch? Milk in pouches.(Awesome) I one time saved my milk from lunch and put it in my cubby and forgot about it. It swelled with the pressure of rotting milk, and when I finally remembered it, I saved it and put it under my school bus tire. *Sigh* those were simpler times.

With all these gay fish there will be too many orgies. These things are more like "foating spheres of love."

looks like a ball of yarn? BRILLIANT!

they currently do something similar, though it's just a giant basket full of tuna they drag along while fating up those suckers...oh and while their coordinating that they have to beat off the sharks with scuba gear and a stick. XD
so...yeah this ball is only necessary if the fish can only do well jumping out...via a lid to the current basket. oh...I wonder how they'll get those suckers out of that ball too?

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max was imprisoned on an atoll because of his gills. As he was about to be lowered into the mud, the smokers attacked.

Very interesting story indeed.
It would be a breakthrough in Cage Culture. Aquaculture in sea is going to grow in fast manner in coming years. But it has to be promoted with extra caution as there would be many ecological and environmental issues & risks as a result of this. There is chances of infecting the natural fish population with variety of diseases, escape of Genetically Modified (GM) fish species in to the ocean, had any cages growing GM fish happen to break due to some reason. Also there is a possibility of hindrance to navigation of ships sailing through the sea due to drifting cages.

Wasnt there a article that came out a while back ago that talked about how fish are going extinct?
