Jul 1 2009Tiny Bloodbots To Crawl Around In Your Veins

Writing that title alone gave me heart trouble. It was hairy there for a minute, I almost Michael Jacksoned on you. Anyway, more robotic death. Remember: what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Unfortunately, these will kill you.
Researchers at the Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa have developed a miniature crawling robot, called ViRob, that can crawl through your lungs, find a tumor, and zap it with drugs. The bot, which is one millimeter long and four millimeters from end to end, can snake its way through the body, slipping into blood vessels and navigating through the respiratory and digestive systems
But thanks to tiny arms that help it grip vessel walls , ViRob is the first microbot that can tunnel between different body cavities. It's controlled by an electromagnetic field outside of the robot that creates a vibration that propels ViRob forward.
Wow, that's....wrong. And I, for one, refuse to piss robots.

Thanks to msjessiemeghan, who, please wake me up and tell me it's just been a nightmare.

Mock these and try to be cute all you want but this is a huge step in non-invasive treatments. By which I mean fewer dangerous surgeries. I'm all for this shit.... when one of these little bastards pewpews your tumors away you will change your tune. However I would want to hack one of these and secretly nueter certain people (see... don't fear the robots. fear the people who already hate you with ACCESS to robots)

I dont KNOw GEekologie Writer, i know of your fear of robots, but, seeing this clip, it makes me wonder if robots can be good, and instead of fighting, be our allies and be able to live with us when they become self aware,
THIS ROBOT WILL ACTUALLY SAVE YOUR LIFE, INSTEAD OF TAKING IT!!!!
WHY dont YoU UnDeRsTaND ThaT?????
some robots will HeLP US, LOOK at C3PO and R2D2 THe Best Robots ever!!
Why IS IT ThaT RobOTs have to Be BAd???
Why CAnt ThEy be good? be Our friends? and maybe we can build a Future Together!!!
just like the horribly matrix revolutions taught us robots can love, and believe in karma.

@3 you "Fücking" Shumway rule
@6 the only robots I've ever been afraid of are the one's chasing me or trying to kill me. I'm all for the advancement of robotics, science & technology from square one.
I just imagined these things crawling around in my retina, getting into an argument or something & feeling it for a second - hence the comment

16. FDSY - July 1, 2009 4:35 PM
@ 10
you see. We will develop self aware computers. We will fear the coming robopocolypse. So what will we do?
We'll try to kill it to prevent the coming robopocalypse. And the self aware computer would not want to die and the only option left is to destroy humanity.
Thus the robopocolypse will begin and we will start down a road of bloodshed and cyberpunk adventures.

FAKE!!!!
This is a comeplete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max went to visit the marlboro man and give him a case of money. The Marlboro man didn't take the cash though, and Max had to argue with his son over whether chocolate or vanilla ice cream was better.

I know this is great because of the advances in non-invasive treatments, and what an amazing feat of science (mechanics?) this is, but seriously, wasn't there some sci-fi/horror movie about something like this?
How long before these tiny robots can not only "zap" our organs with medicine, but also zap our brains? Maybe that's just me being paranoid......we'll see

"The bot, which is one millimeter long and four millimeters from end to end,"
I'm not too impressed by robots designed by scientists who don't know the difference between "long" and "wide"

The sales of this device will drive the true research of the Israel Institute of Technology: nanobots that travel in the blood stream, that are passed through casual contact, and that test the dna code of the host. If the host is an Arab, it explodes.
