Jul 2 2009I'd Live There: Amazing Papercraft Castle

paper castle 1.jpg

This is a castle made entirely of paper. And I think we can all agree: it's pretty much the big bad wolf's wet dream-home.

I had the immense opportunity to see this wonderful paper craft art installation by a genius of the name of Wataru Itou, a young student of a major art university here in Tokyo. The installation is hand made over four years of hard work, complete with electrical lights and a moving train, all made of paper!

Normally when I see something this all I can think about is wanting to burn it. But not in this case, it's just too beautiful. Huh? What do you mean what's behind my back? Oh, these? Just some fireworks.

Hit the jump for a couple more, then the link for a bunch of nicer high-res joints.

holy crap that is just insanity to the nth degree.

Artist: "So it took me 5 years to complete this."

2 man: "Interesting......mind if I smoke?"

Artist: "Go ahead, so anyways, night and day, day and night I struggled to get everything they way I had pictured it....WTF! ITS ON FIRE!!! NOOOOOOO!"

AND THAT IS HOW I BECAME A PYRO. THE END.

Am I a terrible person to have the overwhelming desire to walk up to this thing with a box of matches and just go crazy on it?

Badass! I only found one flaw! One of the circles over the doorway on the last picture, as crinkled. Still kick ass though!

Scratch that, if you look on the big photo of it, it's just the shadow.

holyshit - that's awesome!

I'm going to sneak into your house, creep up to your fridge and get the margerine out. Then i'm going to scoop all the contents out and take a shit in the container. Then i'm going to put the margerine back in the container to conceal the steamy goodness in the bottom.
2 weeks and 30 odd sandwiches later you'll find my wee present.

@ 8

I hope you didn't eat that margerine because I already snuck into his house and put my chum in there.

i cant believe that this is an actual life-sized castle made out of paper. i wonder why they didnt go inside and take some pictures of the inside. i bet the interior paper decorating is amazing and detailed! a real, life-sized castle built to scale out of paper that you can really walk inside and life in there for a couple of years. so amazing a whole mansion the size of a real actual mansion and you can really for real go inside and go into it and also live on the inside of it by walking right into it through the front doors or even maybe the back doors which are the size of real doors so you can actually fit inside of this castle thats made out of paper.

@16... nowhere mentioned that it was life-sized. also if it were, then the ppl in the 2nd, 3rd and final shots must all b giants.... also i've gotta take a dump and i'm out of paper..hmmmm..........

2nd, 4th and final shots***

I could do that, but all my paper says "Zig Zag" on it.

FAKE!!!!

This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.

This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max was eating cereal, and Baja answered the phone. It was for Max, and he was being called because a guy was on his way over with an overdosing girl. Max yelled prank call into the phone a few times when he realized it was a cell phone call, and then argued with Baja about where he kept his nursing reference book, and his adrenaline shot.

What happens when it starts raining?

"..complete with electrical lights and a moving train, all made of paper!"

The electrical lights are made of paper?

My origami swan still looks better.

Thats more than just awesome - this is epic.
Saw a lot of papercrafts but non was this impressive.

@ LSDiesel: Don't take so much LSD. There's no way your school work is better than this - get real...

Absolutly Awesome

Why is it the Japanese can continuously make such amazing and intricate things? Is it their small fingers? Is it their work-till-you-drop-dead sense of discipline? Is it their little known ability to switch to micro-vision at will? Do they ever make anything that is crap? I mean, I know they make things that are beyond odd and are often useless, but do they ever make shoddy junk like the rest of the world? Does Japan have it's own "Tampon-Mona Lisa" makers? I don't think so. (altho I could see them painting the Mona Lisa on a tampon, putting it in a LCD case that has an animated bunny saying it is perfect for "Happy Fun Monthly Time - Wow!")

Yep, I am jealous of their super-human creative abilities. Makes my best artistic endevours look like they were done by a second-grader. (And I have an art degree, which I now realize would be worth a lot more if I let this guy? play with it for awhile)
