Jul 26 2009Full Size House To Be Built With LEGO Bricks

James May, co-host of the British Top Gear television series, is going to attempt to build a full size, two story house entirely out of LEGO bricks.
As part of his BBC series James May's Toy Stories, he plans to build a two-storey house in the middle of Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking.May will be hosting a building day on Saturday, August 1, when members of the public can help him with the challenge.
The millions of bricks came all the way from the Czech Republic. The house will be life-size with a staircase, toilet and shower.
I would live there. And by live there I mean come home drunk, pass out on the floor, and wake up with LEGO marks all over my face. Then maybe some puking action.

Thanks to Kieren, who built an entire planet out of LEGO and then ran through it like a leaf pile.

You know.. i was the first poster like my third time commenting on geekologie and I didn't make mention.. Is this some sort of really lame ongoing joke or do people really get excited about it?
Every entry generally has a senseless first five comments because of this..
Now on topic.. I'm wondering how many columns there will be on the first floor or how they will reinforce the second..
will it be...
is it... safe?
5. Taylored - July 26, 2009 12:56 PM
I have wanted to do this since pretty much forever. I wonder what the materials cost would be...?
@4:
I assume there would need to be many columns. I would probably have a honey comb type architecture with 4ft diameter spheres... or something like that. I am not a structural engineer or anything, but this looks like it would be an awesome project. I think lego would have to have some serious quality control on the bricks. I have not bought a lego sent in many years, but in my day they did not all fit the same, some were tight, some were loose. This issue would need to be solved in order to have uniform structural integrity. I also wonder about building permits...

I too would come home drunk and pass out drunk and wake up with lego marks on my face. However this happens and my house isn't made of legos...

I love James May... he may not be a great driver, but at least he's entertaining :)

Forget about rug burns- could you imagine the marks that you'd get from messing around on the lego floor or the lego bed?
10. Anna - July 26, 2009 1:40 PM
@5... the structural integrity of legos is pretty impeccable. I don't know what ghetto loose legos you were playing with (duplos maybe?) but the margin of error for a lego mold is less than 5/1000s of a millimeter.

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never BAck Down where Max hit his 100th home run and ran the bases backwards.

I had lego blocks which had been accumulated over a number of years. From the 60's to the late 90's. That could be the reason for my problems.

@ 26
No we don't have earthquakes over here as we do not live on (or near) a tectonic plate fault line

@22 Errr if this is to be done on August 1st 2009 how is it old news?
@14 The picture above is obviously a FAKE!!! as the real house hasn't been built yet!
I'm sorry I thought geeks were supposed to be intelligent?

So what if the picture above is fake? The house haven't even been built yet. TO BE.
34. i need a job - July 27, 2009 8:40 AM
This sounds awesome but very tedious. Back in the day I always had big lego ideas and once I got strated I never had the patience to complete. Finding the elusive three pegger in a haystack of two and fours pretty much drove me to drink which was the gateway to all of my life's problems so I say piss on legos.

@33 errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm ok now go back and READ my post! I was referring to the comment made in 14 which calls the picture a fake.
Again I ask the question, I thought geeks were supposed to be INTELLIGENT?
37. Jaded Icon - July 27, 2009 11:04 AM
@36
Where do I start.....hmmm....well, lets start with Daisy. Daisy (or noobfishfinder as we like to call her/him) posts FAKE with every GW post. They have been doing this for .......uh.......a long time. If you read the whole comment you would realize that Daisy is not even refering to this photo (she/he only refers to the movie NEVER BACK DOWN) and she/he makes bizzare statements that actually have no revelance to the movie. So, long story short, Welcome to Geekologie! Enjoy your complimentary novelty eagle head.
