Jul 19 2009eBay: Piece Of Film From Original Star Trek

star-trek-film.jpg

Want to own a piece of Star Trek that you can wear around the house like a boa? Then you're in luck, because a man is selling an 11-foot piece of film from the "Mirror, Mirror" episode of the original Star Trek series.

This is a unique, one-of-a-kind item. I was an assistant film editor on the original series of Star Trek and this is an original section of film that came right out of the camera after shooting. This is from the episode "Mirror, Mirror" which aired October 6, 1967. The clipping is 11 feet 7 frames long, about 183 frames total. Pictured on the film is Chekov (Walter Koenig) when he is foiled in his attempt to kill Captain Kirk. The clip follows the fight sequence and includes two different phaser blasts which were hand scribed by me back in 1969.

Starting bid is $500, and I wouldn't be surprised if this ended up selling for a pretty penny. Or a handsome quarter. You hear that? Better luck next time you busted ass nickel!

eBay Auction

Thanks to Sigrid, who doesn't need a phaser to know how to rock pew.

FAKE!!!!

This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.

This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where MAx was investigating a string of murders and Keyser Soze had a box delivered to MAx with Baja's head in it.

I tried to sell a whole complete reel of STAR TREK and nobody gave 2 shits...

I couldn't find the scene in the film clip, but I didn't look too hard.

do not want

Definitely not a fake. Can be proven. Editor is my husband. He hand scribed these. He is now 70 and wants them to find a good home. P.S. We don't even own photoshop. I don't care if you don't want it...that's reasonable...but don't disparage it. Yes, the shadows were "off" but that was part of set . You can confirm who we are and his work through a couple of sources.

^^lol

The 16mm reel was not an original dailie from the production. It was a viewing reel. This is what appears to be a 35mm dailie, with editing scribes, from the actual production of said episode of the original Star Trek. Not a 16mm viewing reel. lol, which is worth all of what, twenty cents, US currency? More so for the metal of the reel than the film that is on it.

The owners of the 35mm clip don't realize that the photoshop comments above are a mere daily occurance, posted by someone who is on a quest to see how long they can run an out of date joke on a forum. Don't be offended. It's just the desperate ramblings of an attention whore whose feelings got hurt and is now trying to play it off by running the joke, hoping that we will all forget about the beat down she took over it all, and that it will become relevant again some day.

We trust that your flim clip is real. Good luck with the sale.

EDIT: No bids as of yet, woOt! lol ^^

@Lalloou
The "Photoshop fake" comment is a routine reply to all stories on this site. Don't take it personally. The hand-scribing makes this galley all the more collectible. I did a lot of that on Super-8 film when I was a kid. (Now I have more impressive toys.) It is interesting that this technique was used as a kind of "animatic" stand-in before the opticals were completed.

There's a big difference between a run-of-the-mill 16mm distribution print and a 35mm work print.

I wish you luck in selling this iconic merchandise. I applaud your capitalistic venture; however it is of Star Trek instead of Star Wars. Because of this slight, I will have to name a blood feud against you and your family. You can correct this oversight by donating your proceeds of this sale to the charity fund for the survivors of the Death Star destruction. Thank you for your support.

I used to scribe "phaser" lines into 8mm film when I was a young film maker. Damn, that was high tech at the time. I'm sure it was a lot easier on 35mm. It's a risky effect if you're using the master reel.

The bf would love this. Too bad he already got his b-day present.
