Jul 19 2009Deep Roots: The Mario Game Family Tree

This is a depiction of all Mario games in the style of a family tree. Obviously, there aren't only ten games, so click HERE to see the super-ultra-high-res joint with all 130+ games. Fun fact: I was born in the same hospital by the same doctor as my father. So, yeah. I swear, it's like we've known each other our whole lives, you and I. Want to hold hands? Okay, but I've got to warn you: mine's hairy sweaty.

Thanks to em.monster, who puts Nessie to shame. And to Kalutika, who fell from the tree of beauty.

I'll look for the chart, not Mario. I do love charts.
4. Mr Fxit - July 19, 2009 2:07 PM
U forgot a couple of games.
1) Although you don't control him, Mario was the ref in Mike Tyson's Punchout for the NES. If you include Donkey Kong as a Mario game, it just seems you should include this
2) He is the main character in the orginal Golf for NES.
5. knarf - July 19, 2009 2:28 PM
They forgot quite a few games...
6. Dishy Dishyington - July 19, 2009 2:39 PM
The original movie was great. I don't know why they had to follow it with a crappy video game.

11. Daisy - July 19, 2009 3:57 PM
FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max was stuck in the TARDIS and had to jettison some rooms to gain the energy to get it unstuck.
12. sage james spirtos - July 19, 2009 4:08 PM
it doesn't list the 2 pinball machines... WTF!
13. Flashman85 - July 19, 2009 4:28 PM
Wait... doesn't it make more sense to connect Paper Mario to Super Mario RPG instead of Mario 64?
14. Incomplete - July 19, 2009 5:14 PM
You totally forgot about the upcomming Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
15. Buddy Love - July 19, 2009 5:21 PM
First of all, GW didn't make this, you idiots. Stop saying "u forgot"...He had nothing to do with it.
Secondly, this is indeed missing many, many games related to Mario and thus fails.
16. Jeff - July 19, 2009 6:28 PM
Agreed. This chart is certainly missing many loved mario games. And I don't think anyone could every truly organize it in a way everyone would agree with. I think organizing by console and date issued would be a cooler chart honestly.
17. XX - July 19, 2009 6:28 PM
They left out Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and GOLF for the Gameboy.
18. BootlegGuy - July 19, 2009 6:42 PM
they forgot to add that episode of "Saved by the Bell" where A.C. Slater.... oh, you mean we're not talking about that Mario?
19. Ikana - July 19, 2009 8:53 PM
I can understand a few obscure games being missed...and can kinda understand why Smash Bros may be emitted...but the entire Donkey Kong franchise? O_o
20. Hennessy - July 20, 2009 4:14 AM
They forgort Luigi's Manson! What is it? Is Luigi not good enough for you bastard?
And Super Smash Bros! *smash smash* But that's understandable.
xoxo, Luigi's #1 Fan :)
21. Jaded Icon - July 20, 2009 7:19 AM
I'm sure they had thought of these other games that Mario makes a cameo appearance, but they decided that they would stay strict to the games where Mario is the protagonist. As least I hope they did. If not (and they just forgot) then do with them what you may. RAKE THEM OVER HOT COALS!!!
22. Pat - July 20, 2009 10:53 AM
You'd think Mario would be a little thinner for all the sports he plays.
23. Jeremy - July 20, 2009 11:16 AM
They left out Tennis too. They also could do a much better job connecting the Game and Watch games and including the Game and Watch gameboy games to that..
EPIC FAIL
24. Drew - July 20, 2009 11:57 AM
@24
Good one :D
25. Caboose - July 20, 2009 1:22 PM
@20 Pay more attention. Luigi's Mansion is there.
26. a dog - July 20, 2009 2:28 PM
wow they even left out the first two mario karts.
27. Charles - July 21, 2009 12:36 PM
Where is the red-headed step child known as Virtual Boy?!?!?!?
28. Malandros - July 21, 2009 3:18 PM
This is really interesting. My only problem is that Paper Mario should be derrived from Super Mario RPG since it was originally titled Super Mario RPG 2. I'd also Derive the Mario and Luigi series from these as essentially all of the Mario RPG's started with Super Mario RPG. That's just how I see it though.
29. Ness STarwen - July 21, 2009 4:31 PM
What no smash brothers limb on this family tree?

Super Princess Peach and Mario Hoops 3 on 3 are brother/sisters.
Super Mario Galaxy is a cousin to Bowser's Inside Story.
Wario Smooth Moves and Wario: The Shake Dimension are also cousins.
Luigi's Mansion is sadly childless.
Super Mario Sunshine has 9 children yet only 5 grandchildren.
Super Mario 64 has 28 grandchildren.
Mario Party 3 is the great-uncle of the 5 grandchildren of Super Mario Sunshine
The Mario Parties and the Paper Marios are cousins.
And the Mario Teaches Typing family died out in 1997.
