Jun 25 2009That's Depressing: Dead People Jewelry

Want some jewelry that will remind you of your deceased loved ones because it's made with parts of them? Then you're in luck, thanks to necromancer and design student Anna Schwamborn (not to be confused with Anna Schwamdied).
Besides pure hair being used, cremated human ashes are mixed with black bone china, the world´s highest class porcelain.
The objects are supposed to be worn close to the body of the mourner symbolizing a lasting physical connection between two individuals even after death.Furthermore this collection is supposed to remind the wearer on the fragility and appreciation of life and most importantly, acting as a keepsake.
Wow, that was depressing. Quick, I need something entirely inappropriate. Got it -- ex-girlfriend panty collection for the save! Whew, that was a close one.
Hit the jump for a couple more pictures of the possibilities.

Mourning Objects by Anna Schwamborn [dezeen]
Thanks to Rox, who may or may not wear the shrunken heads of enemies on a necklace.

wow, at least they haven't thought of freeze dried corpses. So you have a lovely corpse statue staring at you from the corner of your living room while scaring off any visitors. XD

We'll get out of the recession

I'm going to replace my glass eye with one made from my grandfather's gallstone, and make a crown from his pelvis.
19. katie g - June 25, 2009 6:49 PM
This sort of thing has been around a long time. You can find stuff from the 1800s occasionally. The pictures of dead folks, ala "The Others" is weirder, I think. There's also a website that you can send ashes of loved ones to and have jewelry made: lifegem.com

@11 Forget freeze-dried. Plasticized is the way to go, baby! Then you can open them up and voila, wet bar!
25. Ubu7 - June 25, 2009 7:47 PM
Make your granny into a kegerator! Dispense frothy nectar from her hooha by pulling a finger or poking her in the eye!
Classy.

30. Daisy - June 25, 2009 8:51 PM
FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max was in line to see the ghost counsellor, and he swapped numbers with a witch doctor who shrunk his head.
31. Pewps - June 25, 2009 8:53 PM
There are companies that make diamond rings out of loved one's ashes, I'd just -love- getting a part of my boyfriend's grandpa's penis in my engagement ring
32. katto - June 25, 2009 9:47 PM
they do diaminds from ashes also
33. blp - June 25, 2009 9:53 PM

You know, hair has been used for decoration for centuries. The Victorians put bone and ash in their Funeral Rings on occasion, and Hair Wreaths and Hair Flowers (exactly what it sounds like) were very popular. I actually worked with a woman who collected Hair Art, with about 35 pieces. V. expensive stuff, if you can find it.

Would it be possible to obtain a bracelet with Dick Cheney's balls?
They are tremendous and are made of brass. I believe they were lest seen hanging from the back of an SUV trash talking some liberals and intimidating Chuck Norris's chin.
40. Rach - June 26, 2009 1:38 AM
Hmm... I've always wondered what people would think of sprinkling ashes of loved ones into an oyster and wearing the pearl...
41. Lizzie - June 26, 2009 2:09 AM
to be completely honest, I think its pretty selfish... why not just lay them to rest, or spread their ashes, and let them, and yourself move on?
42. kreebilicus - June 26, 2009 4:44 AM
@41 how about eating their ash, exhuming the body and eating that and them moving them on through your system?
43. Laurie - June 26, 2009 5:10 AM
OH MY GOD...this is both creepy and gross...as much as i love someone, i'd rather keep nice photographs or whatever, not horrible and tacky pieces of hair around my neck. because yeah...besides from being disgusting, they are just plain HORRIBLE in design
44. 3d - June 26, 2009 7:13 AM
Looks itchy.

It's not a bad idea. It's been around for years, but really, I prefer the whole one where your ashes are turned into a Diamond.

nice pendants with necklace and rings surely suit any dress you choice. if the person is comfortable wearing them is whats important. one situation choosing for an accessories, i was hesitant to try the pendant , necklace or rings so i get the cuff links instead.
