Jun 24 2009I Invented That!: Fan Powered Rocket Board

fanboard.jpg

I'm pretty sure this is every five-year old boy's first invention. Of course, few have the technical know-how to make it happen. And even fewer are allowed to play with power tools. But grownup Ray Bavetta kept the dream alive and slapped a 3.7HP model airplane engine on a skateboard and misnamed it Rocket Board. Do you know what a rocket is, Ray? There's usually fire coming out of the back. Not streamers.

Rocket Board makes skateboarding a bit more interesting [dvice]

Thanks to FDSY, who is fairly certain this is how he'll die.

FUURRRRSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!

Fanboard?

This is the perfect ride for a FanBoy!

Laugh Damn You!

SERIOUSLY.

I have a feeling this is how I'll die.

Those boards don't work on water!

what happened to using rockets?

Other than keeping your ankles cool, I don't see this thing even working.

He must be a skating FANataic

I duct taped (true story) 12 8oz rockets to a skateboard once to see how far it'd go down the street before considering 'rocketboarding', but when we did a test run - with 2 other kids with me trying to light 12 wicks at the same time, we got half of them lit before the 1st rocket started firing.

Needless to say the thing went 10 feet before angling towards the side of the road where it shot into some bushes and made a great campfire. We were 15 yrs old & were only slightly burnt

what are we trying to catch a roadrunner or something? Everyknows a giant rubber bang works much better than rocketboards...

While it is a novel idea, I just don't see this particular model working out too well. But, who knows, we could start seeing these pop up all over the place. We'll see kids all across the globe, out on the sidewalks with these things, wondering, "How come I'm not moving?!"

STOMPY - I know what a rubber band looks like, but I would really love to see the specs on this rubber bang you speak of...?

@10 yes, I've been chasing roadrunners all my life

@12

Just think of what Golaith uses to sheath his drink stirrer!!!

14 - Gotcha. Thanks!

Wow @ 12 (your name is too long and obnoxious to type)

You are so full of wit and insight.
However did you come up with that knee-slapper of a joke.

Oh wait, I think what Stompy meant to say actually was "band" but Stompy is only human. So, I'm guessing, the occassional typo is bound to happen.

I did the exact same thing last weekend, only I used a blender on my countertop and made slushily-delicious overly-alcoholed drinks.
...got drunk and laughed alot at people on skateboards getting hurt....

@FAH-Q

You know that link i just sent, its from a site like this but the poor thing hasn't had a comment in weeks... ahhhh poor thing....

3.7HP? That isn't enough to push anyone around let alone an adult... so dude pretty much wasted the money on the engine and drilled holes in his old school board. pro-fail

STOMPY - you should adopt it, and give it a comment every day!

Where's the video evidence?

Wait, that's not even an actual skate board, its just some MDF cut like a board!

That thing is for looks only, I call shenanagins!

And tease! Do not show me something with great potential for bodily harm and NOT show the harm!

BRING THE HURT YOU PUSSIES!

#23 - very appropriate

HA! Bath Captain likes this too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bath Captain

THIRD PERSON IS FOR WINNERS!

the question now, is where in the hell can I get one of those? a fishtail board modded with a fan.... sounds fun :P

STOMPY - You made me lol. Thank you.

@23, 29, 32 I am sorry, I had to follow you in there and leave my input. I enjoyed the read and then thought, why not. Please forgive me, I feel like such a dirty troll. I'd never do something like that on a blog or message board, honest - it was just for giggles & sprinkles

I can't imagine(yes I can)what Ollie would say in there, he's always so warm and cuddly

what's for ?

Being the shameless fanboy that I am, I also had to add my comment: http://nerdapproved.com/approved-products/im-a-mac-sticker-gets-the-commercials-wrong/comment-page-1/#comment-88213

Geez, I have to get onto the same time zone as you people…

naas - Why ARE there dicks so little? Do you know? I need to know!

I don't know why their dicks are so little, that's the 1st thing I'd ask if I saw someone wearing that shirt, which is a goddamn bad idea right there I tell ya

The noise is annoying but the concept is great!
