May 28 2009Where Are These Flying Cats Coming From?

China. They all seem to come from China. And let me tell you something: I'm sure as hell not eating the cat food there.
A kitty in Chongqing, China, is getting some extra-special attention these days: The furry feline has developed wings! Though born looking completely normal, once the cat hit the age of 1, he began growing wing-shaped appendages on either side of his spine.
According to the Telegraph's report, scientists believe the appendages developed due to grooming habits, a genetic defect or a hereditary skin condition.
Nice one, scientists. How about you just admit you have no effing clue. That said, I change my mind about not eating Chinese cat food (zing, local Chinese restaurant). I'm gonna grow wings! Climb aboard ladies, I'll take you places no other woman has ever been. The moon! My bedroom. Washed the dinosaur sheets just for you baby. Also, I have a mini-fridge. With snacks.

Thanks to Sharkey and Paul, who are holding out for flying dogs like that funky bitch Falcore the Luck Dragon from The Neverending Story.

'Tis called evolution with it's many quirks... I want a flying cat. I'm not sure what purpose it would serve, but I fücking want one damnit!

why do dogs don't have front foot and walk like dinos and cats with wings are in china?? thats because in china are eating those animals.. and the animals are smart and grow strange so they don't be eaten ^^

I have to admit: At first glance, I saw nothing wrong with the cat...

its just matting...
...my mother in law has several cats (3 with short, but thick hair) these cats that get these "camel humps" on their lower back area which is just mega mound of tight matted fur...kindal ook like they are giving "piggy back rides" to rats at first glance
kinda like how a rhino horn grows from hair
we took one in from her and had it shaved, then we just brished it regularly...it didnt grow back till like 2 years later when we gave her back....
...its pretty disgusting and sad
...these cats just need to be brushed more often

@ #8 - lol.
Why is there only one picture of the kitten? Is it ferocious and kills anyone that tries to take more that one picture of it?
20. succo - May 28, 2009 4:27 PM
My buddies long hair cat did the same thing. Just how the fur mats together, then when the fur falls out naturally it sticks in the clump.

They're actually giant ears, not wings. That's actually a smaller cat growing out of a giant cat face, what you're looking at there.

my gnome just found her d&d mount! flying kitty!
23. mothra - May 28, 2009 4:38 PM
man, this is going to make my hobby of throwing kittens out of moving cars on high bridges much less fun if they can gently float to a soft landing. Freakin' evolution ruins everything.

I guess redbull does give you wings.
29. JesSTDs - May 28, 2009 9:37 PM
Geekologie writer, as much as I love you, you have done this already.
The wings are from matting, brush your pets.
30. McCracken - May 28, 2009 10:16 PM

34. StephenD - May 29, 2009 8:06 AM
They probably just cut the cats tail in half and then stapled it to the side of the cat to grow so they can make some money. :)
35. Fors - May 29, 2009 10:07 AM
See what happens when people spill Red Bull into the local water supplies? For shame China...
36. Leo - May 29, 2009 12:28 PM
it is just funny how scientist pretend to know something when in reality they don't know shit, trust me I know I am majoring in science
37. Darth - May 29, 2009 4:56 PM
I haven't seen kitties yet flapping their wings. Is there any radio active radiation in that area?
38. Nero - May 29, 2009 4:58 PM
Fried kitty wings! Mmmm!
39. maine website design - May 29, 2009 5:56 PM
Thats fabulous!!! You know, as much as I love kitties, I would love to see one fly. If scientists really did do this to the poor cats..THEN SHAME ON THEM! Kitties are one of the best household pets and can make excelent friends. Why anyone would want to genetically mutate one is beyond me.
But I digress, Kitties, With winds... Awesome... Who ever said only pigs could fly?
40. lala - May 30, 2009 4:10 PM
@18 the other cat had bones in its wings
41. lala - May 30, 2009 4:12 PM
actually, correction: both cats have bones in their wings. so it's not just matted fur.
42. Drunkman - June 1, 2009 1:12 PM
That's what happens when you put antifreeze in your animal food.
43. Moogle - July 23, 2009 3:35 PM
