May 16 2009Looks Safe: Setting Jet Pack Speed Records

This is a video of Jetpack International trying to raise the airspeed record for jetpacking. Because, well, you've gotta start somewhere.

This is not especially difficult to do, considering that jetpack airspeed records don't really exist yet, but when you only have 30 or 40 seconds of fuel, you have to make sure and remember to leave yourself enough time to slow down.

The actual jetpacking starts at around 1:30, but whoever edited the video did a pretty shitty job and loves slow motion too much. Still, dude gets up to 61MPH. Which is impressive considering he's towing like 30lb balls.

First?

"They've wrote me three tickets basically which I'm not going to pay."

Brilliant.

That was some slow ass shit right there. Jetpack - very cool, indeed. But setting a record just to set a record is lame when an electric wheelchair bound grandmother can beat you... and probably by about 10 seconds

61mph? Really? I like how they've got the modded rice burner "racing" him. Jet pack? Isn't a jet supposed to be faster than things. I mean the bicycle land speed record(remember to fact check this later) is more than twice this. I'm pretty sure ol' dude with the bike to the power of sick could even quadruple it. I mean really, can't the average girl throw a baseball faster than this guy. lame.

it is a pretty 4 mins of wasted time. if you try to settle a speed record, your movie NEEDS ADRENALIN! otherwise it looks as shitty as what you saw.

awesome

dude.
why slo-motion, why?

Other than that its pretty cool, wish I could fly that fast. Or fly at all.

Don't care how the video looks, I'd sell my soul for one of these

Oh wow.. i want one :O That will sure get me to work fast.. fly over the morning traffic....

That jetpack may be producing a large amount of horsepower (I'd like to know how he calculated 800hp) but the problem is most of the power is used to hold him up in the air with thrust. Im sure if he stood on a skateboard and just used the thrust to move across the ground he would go much much faster. Assuming he could have a stable platform to do it on.

Iron Man went totally faster by the way!

god that was painful to watch. why would he put it in slow motion? we want to see how fast he's going...
and the MUSIC.

Who shows a speed record video.. IN SLOW MOTION?

Firs.... ah man, I was going to be first than I must have fallen asleep while watching this video... I've seen videos about basketweaving that are more exciting...

@15
Smartest question ever!

@11 LOL

FAKE!!!!

This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.

This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max build a jet pack out of coke bottles and mentos. He then proceeded to mount a spare tire on it and set a speed record while being chased by a moped.

for sarcastic doubter its a ford not a rice burner.

The slow motion totally ruined it.

Alex,

please respond to my e-mails?

Its not going fast enough.

Booooring. Yawn. Snooze.

I would rather see these guys try to break the jet pack altitude record. Imagine some idiot trying to squeeze out 20 extra feet.
