May 13 2009I Want: Sweet $100,000 Hoverpack Action
This is some more video of the $100,000 Martin "Jetpack" that will be available later this year. That's right folks, your very own hoverpack for less than you'd pay for a Lamborghini. Almost sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? No, not really. But still, I want one.
...capable of accurate control, and it's said to fly for 30 minutes at 60 mph, and travel a distance of 8000 feet. Still no word on how high it can go, or if it can exceed the altitude where it's boosted by that helpful ground effect. But this is a great improvement over the demos from last year.
Oh hell yes. You know, this jetpack reminds me of the time I jumped off my neighbor's holding a ceiling fan over my head -- but with less flying to the moon and banging martians. They really do have green nipples!

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max was selling his season tickets to the Red Sox as his girlfriend ran out onto the field to try and stop him.

Anyone else remember playing pilotwings on SNES and taking the jetpack as high as it would go just to run out of fuel and let it crash down? I sure hope Wii releases some pilotwings action

I'm no math major, but 30 minutes at 60MPH seems to me to be a lot father than 8000 feet. Like 28.4 miles more...but I digress...

Holy crap that is awesome, AWESOMELY LOUD! Geeze, as soon as they quiet it down, call me. Until then, I can't be blasting everyone's ears on my hover-trip to the corner store to get an Icee.

This is utterly futile... they are making these Jetpacks about as large as small Air Planes... and more expensive... What possible good can these things bring? Especially since they cannot be flown outside?
15. STOMPY - May 13, 2009 4:52 PM
@14
you mean like computers used to be as large as small airplanes and more expensive... its all about baby steps, making the product actualy feasable and getting some real life use in the public will generate interest... but than again, could you imagine how fubar if it did get mainstream? Total novices flying into god knows what with a hundred pounds of fuel....
16. NastyBedazzler - May 13, 2009 4:57 PM
Am I alone in thinking that this thing is highly impractical?
It floats about 1 foot off the ground and goes about as fast as a cripple in a wheel chair, with slightly less functionality.
Not to mention, only half an hour of flight time will get you wherever you need to go... and then you get to carry this thing back home.

25. otterpop - May 14, 2009 12:57 AM
I can imagine this equipped on the hal suit, throw in some gunz and some armor, and you got a vtol quick strike combat setup.... think bigger. all this shit we are seeing is leading us to starcraft or warhammer 40k. think about it.

This baby could rejuvenate Nascar...Imagine a group of these in ground effect coming out of turn four...Competition would improve the breed; consumer models may be enough to bring GM back from extinction.
