May 24 2009Fun: Mind-Control Game Coming This Fall

Mattel's much anticipated Mindflex game is allegedly dropping this October for $100. For those of you who think like I do, that's 3 lapdances at a reasonable strip club, or almost 12 at the ones I go to.
It's not often that a Mattel toy targets the 18 - 128 demographic, but we'll be frank -- the Mindflex has us all sorts of intrigued. Originally introduced at this year's CES, said game is a brain-powered fun-fest that relies on intense mental activity to control the height of a ball suspended in a column of air.
It sounds similar to that Star Wars toy coming out, but way more involved. I want one. And not just because I've been honing by ball controlling mind skills for years but *concentrating* did you see that? Look again. Now the left one's lower!

Wow Mattel! We need video of this thing in action!
If I am shelling $100 for this contraption, I want to be able to pick up my pet gerbel telepathically and ship him to the top floor of a building!

I want one. Wait... is this anything like Ouija? Cuz if it is, I don't want it... I'm done chatting with the spirits, except for the occasional "Im going to murder your entire family" they never have anything interesting to say.

Freakishly similar to that mind control game in Star Trek TNG that everyone gets addicted to - if I'm not mistaken, I think it even consisted of putting a virtual ball into a virtual cone. Weird.

The "mind control" only allows for the ball to move up and down. You still have to manually turn the knob to rotate the obstacles. I would probably be good at this game. Think - blow softer Think - blow harder

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that movie Never Back Down where Max was stealing a top secret jet fighter from the russians, and had trouble shooting the missles because he forgot he had to think in russian to make it work.

I can see what will happen already.
A meditation guru, after years of practice, will proudly show his peace of mind on this having the ball not move at all. A month later, a YouTube user will show off his video of the ball not moving either, on his first try of the game.
Zero brain activity going on in both cases.

Do we get this for free when we change our health insurance? Looks like medical instruments to me.

The Mindflex is a little more involved than the Force Trainer, however both use the same technology. MindFlex does have a much higher selling price and seems to be less available. None of the major retailers have them in stock online. A good site to check out prices and availability of both is:

I have played this at the convention in las vegas. It took me a while to get used to it. But for how technology advanced it is i will give it a a+.
