May 7 2009Duke Nukem Forever Is Not Happening :(
In news that should surprise no one, apparently Duke Nukem Forever, the much anticipated follow up title in development since 1997(!!!), is being scrapped. I guess that's what happens when you take 12 years to develop a game.
Game On just received a somewhat cryptic form-email from development studios Deep Silver and Apogee Entertainment (a legal alias for 3D Realms) stating, simply, that "Deep Silver and Apogee Software are not affected by the situation at 3D Realms" and that "Development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned." No further details were offered, or reference made to what the "situation at 3D Realms" actually is.
The situation, I suspect, is pissing money into a game for 12 years and seeing no return. I mean, I'm not financial analyst or anything, but I do know I want to ring the bell at the NYSE someday.

Bet they had a producer that kept wanting them to include an unconvincing pseudo love story, more male nudity than female nudity, mediocre special effects, amateur wire work action scenes, a silly plot driven story, adamantium bullets, as many mutants as you can irresponsibly cram into a movie, and the worst treatment of the Deadpool character you can possibly imagine.
Just them trying to maintain their integrity would be enough to fail the project.
They shoulda just called "Duke Wolvernuke", it woulda made a ton of $$$$ regardless of how bad it was...

they shut down the fallout studios too... but we got a fallout 3 (after a much needed to be forgotten tatics and brotherhood of steel) a good 10 years later... it was worth the wait

@5 yes. trilogy is something entirely else by some third party. If you haven't noticed, dn forever is one too many for a trilogy.
Sad news. But it's just a matter of time before the project is picked up again.
