Apr 16 2009Viral Samsung Ads: Now With Trickery

This is a viral ad for Samsung's new I8910 camera phone. I found the guy in the video annoying but I would do his girlfriend. Twice. Once with the lights on.

OUR CHALLENGE: GUESS HOW WE DID THIS. This clip was shot on an I8910 HD phone, a new camera phone just released by Samsung with an 8 megapixel camera that can actually record and output video in HD format. It was shot in one take, with no post production or special effects of any kind. Everything you see here was done "in-camera". Our challenge to you is to figure out how we did it. Hint: it's worth watching in HD...

I went ahead and took the time to embed the video in high definition for you. You know, since I'm your little bitch. And now I'll go ahead and ruin it for you. SPOILER ALERT: Not a mirror. Just a hole. A big, gaping hole. Which, SPOILER ALERT: my ex-wife.

Girlfriend seems a bit stuck up.

He's a lucky guy.

My brother worked on this shoot. It's totall easy to guess - but I'd have to kill you if I told. Link answer.

SPOILER ALERT: Not a mirror. Just a hole. A big, gaping hole. Which, SPOILER ALERT: my ex-wife. <--------------hahahaha funny stuff

everyone knows the answer.
GW told it.
It's not a mirror just a hole to a room mocked up to be identical to the one the guys filming in.
The guy in the mirror is just mimicking the camerman.

Total fake with wrong shadows and Max from never back down n' shit.

FIRST!!! BEOTCH!

I can't watch the vid and my hand is fücking killing me. BTW- typing 9 fingered is annoying as hell...

FAKE... you can tell it's a hole in the wall because the two annoying filming guy's feet are in different positions....

On a separate note... this post seems made for Daisy!

I have Daisy tied up in my basement.

Its not a mirror. Its a doorway.

I float when nobody is looking.... >.>

Pause at :46
The thumbs aren't aligned. I know people already know that it's a hole, but there is your good evidence.

Oh noe!!! The blah blah blahs!

FAKE!!!!

This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.

This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max had to face the bad guy for a shootout in the morning. He got shot in the chest, and fell, buit later got up because he had a cast iron door tied around his neck. Unfortunately he had a big burn on his chest, but thats better than being dead.

@10 - you forgot to tie her hands

Yeah, his girlfriend is a cu nt, and probabaly looking for a new boyfriend online, one that's as dull as she is but with lots more money.

But she's doable.

If it's a hole and not a mirror, why is the text on the camera backwards when he holds it up?

@18 - he's filming in mirror mode where left and right are reversed?

@19: "with no post production or special effects of any kind"

I'd count mirror mode as a special effect. But that's just me.

Oh well,i give this Youtube HD camera trick clip 5 stars.

I'm guessing whomever wrote the monologue doesn't actually know the meaning of "special effect".

Here's a hint...this video uses them

dont know.
but i can see a few errors..
the reflection in the coffee pot aint the same as when he at the mirror

You all recognize it's a fake mirror. The question now is, where does he hide the camera phone on such a quick slight of hand?

Is that a bulge in his sweatshirt?

Another thing I noticed. (Why am I still looking at this?)

They say there are no POST-production tricks. The phone in the so-called mirror has samsung written backwards to look like a mirror image. Except the letters S are not mirrored. Left that way as a hint?

But where does the phone go so fast? I say the first one was dropped on the the floor and kicked to the wall under the mirror. Another one was waiting behind the sweatshirt for the "reappearing" phone.

I think if it were A HOLE that it would be awfully difficult to close the mirror while it was on camera???? assuming its one take my vote goes to the stealth technology of a camera lens on both sides of the camera, this allows the camera to project whats behind it in place of itself,,, if you watch the HD version the place where the camera should be looks a little blurry,, i.e. non HD

No one has said twins! for the girl. Unless there is a mirror somewhere. So GW, you could bang her 4 times now.

#1 clue was simply the delay in the (socalled) mirror from when the camera is panning left and right, up and down, such bad delay - reflections have no delays!

@26. No, Dummy.

If you would do his girlfriend it looks like you would have to do her twin too or you know her look alike

there witches.......

He is using a Twin. girl leaves, circles back to the other room,(makes it look like a reflection of her)

look at :46 - :48 their hands push each other.

look at 1:00 he moves before the camera.

@ 18, they're Samsung, they can do whatever they want.

Witchcraft!

This is so easy to prove it's a hole.

Look at the center point of the video when it's focused on the "mirror." That, by definition, tells you where the lens is -- the center of the image HAS to come from the center of the lens. It's centered on the metro dude. Now look at the camera in the "mirror" -- the lens is NOT centered, or in line with "itself" if it were a mirror. It's off to the right, which is impossible. The center of the lens should be the dead center of the image.

If you don't believe me, grab your camera and try it yourself.

So there.

Guessed it straight off - guys you should have rehearsed that more - rubbish english men!

On the plus side i'm telling everyone it's a Sony ad, stuffed your viral marketing there sonnies....assuming I know alot of people................I don't.

Yeah, it was funny when Lucy did it with Harpo. Oh, about 50 YEARS AGO. And it probably wasn't original even then.

In the very beginning the girlfriend has blue socks on.. and when he "looks in the mirror" she comes out with black shoes on. As for where the camera went I am pretty sure it is on fishing line around his neck that he swiveled to his back when the hand went over.

Look at 1:02, you're a douche bag.

I'm being as sincere as I possibly can when I say that, so no need to get upset.

Even if you aren't paying that much attention you should notice that the wrapping paper tube on the "mirror" isn't perfectly in-line. Not to mention the many MANY other things that were over-looked. Some of them are so bad that I have to hope they were done intentionally.

His feet at the end are not in the same position. Thats it.

Haha, at 1:15-1:19 when he aims the camera down and back up and it reappears. You can see a shadow cast of the person handing him the phone.

Rather than just screaming FAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE... HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it not possible that a phone with a camera on the front and back would be able to take what it sees from one camera and use is to "erase" itself from the other picture by filling in the space occupied by the phone? Now maybe this is ahead of some announcement of this revolutionary technology (/sarcasm). Maybe if it is just a hole this was because the technology is just not that great and so you would be able to see the lag on the image where the phone is or whatever... It could all just be building up hype.

if you noyice when he films the vase the lens ison the left and when he gos to the pruposed mirror the lens is on the right

Hi, i'm from Argentina, sorry for my english. look at the feet in 1:27. The "reflected" image has the left foot first, and the rightone back. When the guy films the "real" image, there are in the same position! if it was a mirror image, there must be at the opposite position, so that proves that it isn't a mirror. I guess it is a glass, because they, the guy and the cameraman, touch it...
