Apr 27 2009Real Sugar: Mountain Dew 'Throwback'

Just for the summer (unless they're hugely popular) Pepsi is producing Mountain Dew and Pepsi 'Throwback', which both contain natural sugar instead of that high fructose maize (I'm part Cherokee) syrup bullshit.
The first thing I noticed was how smooth the carbonated soda went down. It's not nearly as harsh as the standard type and I'm sure peeps who aren't avid Mountain Dew drinkers will appreciate the difference.
Also, the aftertaste. It's more natural and clean. Hell, even my burps taste different. I LOVE IT.
Different tasting burps, now that's a selling point. It's like how Maker's Mark makes my vomit taste different. Mmmm. Unfortunately, Dew Throwback contains thrice the Yellow #5 as regular Mountain Dew, so you 'Throwback' fanatics can kiss your penises goodbye.
Review: Mountain Dew Throwback [crunchgear]
Thanks to Octopus Pie, who hates high fructose corn syrup almost as much as low fructose corn syrup.

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never BAck Down where Max was installing a billing system in a phone company in Utah. He was really tired and the mormons didn't have a coffee pot in the buiilding, so he had to ruin to the sinclair station and get mountain dew.

I bought the Pepsi one because it was a dollar...Maybe it was the fact that it was luke-warm, but it tasted like Diet Pepsi without the funk of aspertame. It wasn't that good. I'll take my high fructose corn syrup, thanks!

I picked up one of these bottles leaving walmart in a rush I when I started drinking it I was like "HOLY SHIT WHY DOSE THIS TASTE SO GOOD!" that is when I really read what it was they better keep this around its so much better!
29. Butch Decossas - April 27, 2009 3:20 PM
Had one this weekend. I hear they use all natural sugar in the throwback versions. I could be wrong though.

They make every soda in Iceland with sugar and Icelandic water. The coke there is amazing! I can't drink soda in the states anymore because it's dreadful in comparison. I tried some of the pepsi "natural" this weekend flavored with real kola nut. A bit funky at first, but it's okay. I look forward to trying out the throwdown version.
31. Gerinych - April 27, 2009 6:45 PM

32. Drunkman - April 28, 2009 6:07 AM
You're better off drinking real sugar then the garbage they used to sweeten drinks now.
33. eat bean - April 28, 2009 6:14 AM

It tastes like shit. I stopped in a local store to grab a can of pop on my way home and thought, "Oh cool retro can." Opened up, took a drink, and gah. Not good at all.
Give me back the high fructose corn syrup please.
37. Bill - May 12, 2009 12:37 PM

I love this throw back. I can't find it right now in my local stores. Is it selling out or what ?
40. John - August 3, 2009 5:22 PM
Throwback is awesome, hands down. Especially for those of us who remember the old cane-sweetened variety.
And Tartrazine shrinking your ding-a-ling? Urban legend, nothing more.
