Apr 22 2009Music To My Ears: Old Computer Parts Performing Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'
Some guy went and programmed a whole bunch of old computer parts to perform Queen's iconic 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. You just have to see it to believe it. But, you can read this first if you want:
No effects or sampling was used. What you see is what you hear (does that even make sense?)
Atari 800XL was used for the lead piano/organ sound
Texas Instruments TI-99/4a as lead guitar
8 Inch Floppy Disk as Bass
3.5 inch Harddrive as the gong
HP ScanJet 3C was used for all vocals. Please note I had to record the HP scanner 4 seperate times for each voice. I tried to buy 4 HP scanners but for some reason sellers on E-Bay expect you to pay $80-$100, I got mine for $30.
Ha -- and you probably thought your computer was musically inclined. Think again, sucker -- your shit just got Beethoven'ed out of the water! I'm talked like BUM-BUM-BUM-BUM -- BUM-BUM-BUM-BOOOSHED, son!*
*That was Beethoven's 5th for you uncultured bitches.
Thanks to meeotch, Jake the Ripper, Tyson and killerabbit, whose computers can't even play video games. Sad shit, guys.

Hi all. I'm still around. So darn busy, I miss chatting it up with you all.
At least I'm making money.
Maybe I'll buy a vacation home in Tennesee.
Any suggestions?

God I hate Queen. Even old computer parts can't save them
16. twellve - April 22, 2009 6:19 PM

17. claire - April 22, 2009 6:22 PM
I love Queen and that was an abomination.
18. Jake the Ripper - April 22, 2009 7:58 PM
It's true. My computer can't play video games. I even got it its own xbox controller, and it just sits there like a lazy asshole while a bunch of kids from england beat the shit out of the both of us. Maybe it just doesn't like Halo.
19. Ohmss - April 22, 2009 7:59 PM
Maybe next time he'll do Styx's "Too Much Time On My Hands"
20. stinky - April 22, 2009 8:18 PM
That sucked. The parts were all out of sync. That was poopy bad.
21. ᵑᵃᵃᶳ - April 22, 2009 8:58 PM
I danced
22. Beastman AIDS - April 22, 2009 9:20 PM
I don't care how good or bad it sounded - it was Bohemian Rhapsody which means it just won. Big time.
23. Dex - April 22, 2009 10:23 PM
That's so fckuing cool.
24. buzz_clik - April 22, 2009 11:46 PM
That was breathtaking... and that final gong was hilarious. What a sublime mix of mechanical rock opera and amusing computing.
25. Dr Freak - April 23, 2009 1:47 AM
To quote Ralph Wiggum... "Oww! My freakin' EARS!"
Listen, i really appreciate how much effort that must have taken but that was truly AWFULL! No timing, bum notes & you murdered one of the best songs in history!
EPIC FAIL!
26. scurl - April 23, 2009 2:08 AM
this reminds me of the time that i managed a well known greasy spoon in seattle, and every night without fail at least 2 stupid drunk asses would try to play bohemian rhapsody on the jukebox. the times i let it go, half the restaurant would sing along, and the other 999 times they tried to play it i swore loudly as i ran to the skip button.
27. Graf Zeppelin - April 23, 2009 3:46 AM
FAKE! this is a complete sampling job. you can tell because the lines in the oscilloscope are mirrored. also, this is evidence if ever you needed any that the government places secret messages in our electric lines. just listen to those appliances! where do those sounds come from?! aaaAAAh! *hides behind aluminum foil hat*
28. Pat - April 23, 2009 8:36 AM
Nice effort, but I wasn't impressed by the song itself.
29. Rhialto - April 23, 2009 8:55 AM
I'm speechless! Brilliant and well done!
30. gypsy - April 23, 2009 11:43 AM
reminds me of my high school band. no matter how cool the song you play is, it still sucks if you're not together at all.
31. leujin - April 23, 2009 1:36 PM
@25, That was Todd Flanders, not Ralph.
32. Dr Freak - April 23, 2009 2:02 PM
i stand corrected
33. Amanda Heironimus - April 24, 2009 11:49 AM
Huh. For some reason I expected so much more from the headline. Some dude just spent HOURS upon HOURS getting this thing all figured out, and the outcome is a quasi-accurate, worthless SNORE. I'm the last person to rain on someone's parade, but holy GOD that was boring.

34. aiyobro - May 4, 2009 1:33 PM
so when will you be touring?
35. Michael Michalchik - May 26, 2009 5:55 AM
First of all fantastic job. You got very accurate pitches, harmonies and timbres I never though you could get from that stuff. The only thing that seemed off was the timing of some of the parts and the sustains at a few places. i wonder why because that would seem to be the easiest part of an otherwise hard job. Also, the scanner does not do all your vocal parts as you said (i don't think) an example is the part that has the lyric "Bismillah! no-,we will not let you go-let him go-"
