Apr 8 2009It Was Frickin' Huge: 54,324 Piece LEGO DSi

LEGO artist Sean Kenney was commissioned by Nintendo of America to build a giant DSi for display at the Nintendo World Store in NYC. So that's what he did. And here it is, in all it's 54,324 piece glory. Sadly, it doesn't work, which means that it's forever frozen with that picture of a cat on it. Which, while cute, is nowhere near as cute as my cat. Isn't that right, Mr. Whiskers? I swear, you are such a cutie with a booty -- come give daddy kissies! No, I didn't say asshole my face, I said kissies!
Hit the jump for a bunch of closeups and a 45-second time-lapse video of the build.

@2&3
Well kids, uncle naas isn't here to let you know how worthless you two are, so I will. Die in a fire. Both of you. Your firstardedness will not be tolerated.
Legos. Yippie.

@5 I would love to hear more of this "dying in a fire" scenario....
Could you be more descriptive? Would they be tied up? Maybe hanging upside down. Maybe we can chain them to a railroad tie soaked in lighter fluid, and the chains themselves are heated until they ignite the wood.
Something like that....

the brick pattern in the closeups is strange. It makes it look like giant lego blocks but I'm sure its just a pattern created from smaller ones. Did he glue those smaller bricks together first and then assemble it from those?

@6
Or maybe the AFI treatment. Cut them open and stick a flare inside their gutty-wuts.

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max was shot into space and landed on a planet where everything was exactly like our world, except they were only 3 inches tall. This was odd because the materials had the exact same composition as the stuff on earth, but things like water drops were huge, and sounds were the same pitch even though the people in this world had huge throats and 10 foot long vocal cords.
This is completely opposite of what our pal NAAS will experience when he lands in Japan. He will be in a land where the people are tiny and smell like fish. They will scurry around like videogame characters. My advice to you, look both ways before you cross the street, especially after a night of drinking. They drive on the wrong side of the street there, and hence come from the direction you don't expect. I highly recomend gaspanic, if you hit the happy hour, drinks are cheaper than a cup of coffee. The walk home is fun thanks to the street side beer machines which should be frequent enough to allow you to have a beer in your hand at all times.

@8. How about we lay this giant waste of Legos in the from of a useless Nintendo on top of them, set it on fire, and see if they can escape.
The weight of the giant DS should keep them in place until most of it melts away, if they can survive the melting plastic lego burns, they can eventually push it off. If they can still breathe.
This way it gives the firstards a one in a billion chance of survival, and certain permanent scarring regardless.

Why would you go through all the trouble of making this and put such a terrible screen shot on it. I mean c'mon, a picture of a cat is the best you could come up with?
18. Pew³ - April 8, 2009 2:50 PM
@17. That's no cat.....it's a LOLCAT.
19. JJtoob - April 8, 2009 2:59 PM
@13 Sure, a Lego artist will cure diseases with huge Lego microscopes, and Lego computers with static images printed on them. Or hand out giant Lego sandwiches for the hungry. Just being sarcastic, it's my curse (or gift).

Yes guys, I am an idiot.

Yes, he glued the smaller pieces together and then put it together. After he was done he asked a stupid question in the comments section on Geekologie.

@9 Daisy I am sorry I didn't catch this earlier, your knowledge of where I am is strikingly accurate.
I inadvertently already hit a happy hour pub and you're dead right about the traffic & the stench of fish. Fortunately I love seafood, japanese beer & anime culture.
I knew I loved you for a reason
