Apr 3 2009Elevator Garages 'Must Have' For The Rich
We already featured a Lamborghini elevator garage a while ago, now here comes one with a Porsche. Apparently London's rich are going apeshit over these things, and buying them faster than Cardock can build them.
The £40,000 (~$59,000) parking spots can be hidden beneath a flowerbed, lawn, or even another parking space.Owners simply press a button on a keyring to raise they car out of the ground much like the rocket launching apparatus in Thunderbirds. There is already a four month waiting list to get the sci-fi style parking space installed.
Wow, that sounds like an enormous waste of money. Seriously, I suggest you rich asshats on the waiting list go find some other idiotic way to blow your money. I mean it, go! Haha -- now who's first in line, bitches?!
Pop-up garage is latest London must-have [newslite]
Thanks to towhee, who has a whole elevator garage for her shoes. You know, because women like shoes.

When parking space is limited I can see the rich paying sixty grand for one of these.

5. wokka - April 3, 2009 1:52 PM
few foot snowfall , ice over, or even basic moisture would be pretty bad... it would have to lead to a subterranian girage or something attached to the house

I can see this going down well in crime ridden countries
7. mcfeely smackup - April 3, 2009 1:58 PM
It's easy to say "douchebag rich people blowing their money", but that's just typical class envy BS.
This is an awesome way (and sometimes the ONLY way) to get additional parking in some locations. Hell, I bought a condo once and had to pay an additional $10,000 just to have a parking space in the garage with zero security.
For anyone who actually is a homeowner (eliminating 90% of the Geekologie audience), you might recognize the return on investment that this would bring to your home...like any other home improvements do. Oh, adding a patio or landscaping is probably another one of those things "rich people waste their money on".
I realize the world looks scary and confusing from your mothers basement, but when you grow up you'll understand.

@7 Wow, you're right and manage to look like an asshole at the same time. Grats.
I think this is absolutely wicked. The price isn't at all as bad as I thought it would be. Installation adds to that though.
My concern, as others have stated, would be the weatherproofing. What happens in torrential downpours and fast showers that cause small amounts of flooding? Unless this thing has some way of removing water buildup, you'd just be purchasing a swimming pool for your car.

@8, No, he looks more like someone who would complain about having the google-streetmobile outside his house taking pictures...

Why don't you be more of a pompous asshole elitist on an internet comments section. I'm sure your parents are very proud of your accomplishments. And not that it matters, but I do own my own house, so I guess I can consider myself one of your so-called elite 10%. Go drink some chlorine asshat, you're not welcome here.

15. where the hell is zurich? (aka Hannukah Montana) - April 3, 2009 2:14 PM
It clearly shows that rich people are never on a hurry. Whereas the middle class, they have to settle for a car that only goes up to a hundred miles an hour. To cut back on time, they'd have to wake up freakin early and only to find out the car needs oil change. "Clunkity-clunk!"

@7, You'll have to excuse Ollie, he can be a little feisty sometimes. Especially on Friday's when he realizes that he'll spend the weekend drowning his sorrow in a bottle all alone in his house that he owns.

Shum I suggest hitting up the whore for that $20, as he know's whorring earn's it & will definitely get you to that game tonight.

24. catch22 - April 3, 2009 2:36 PM
@7 your actually wrong...any subterranean work on a property actually lowers its value... think inground pool versus above ground pool. (as lame as an above ground pool really is, they do nothing to change your property taxes and dont lower the value of the house by robbing you of yard)
id imagine that property taxes will probly be a bit worse (letalone getting the proper town/city clearance to install such a thing. )
as a home owner you would have to understand that you would indeed have to be rich to have one of these
besides i agree with #5 its inpractical when it comes to any weather conditions. proper sealing, draining and constant maintainence on these must be a serious pain in the ass... i would not want to store a showcar in such a place unless it directly ported into my basement less you give it a paintjob every year and avoid mildew and rust
god forbid one of the lift pistons dont work sealing your car underground putting it at risk of damage trying to escavate it.
its all about forsight and having a backup plan incase the thing malfunctions

I'm in Stockholm, Sweden visiting my mum.
By the way, did you google Zurich or you just know it from the back of your head?
28. naas - April 3, 2009 3:18 PM
I've actually been there once, I have the benefit of frequent international travel & Zurich was one place I spent 2 weeks in about 5 years ago.
It was a great trip, skiing & snowboarding in the Alps, visited the giger bar in chur, bought some great weed openly at some headshop in the niederdorf (had no idea, this was a complete surprise) , walked by needle park & learned how it got it's name - and witnessed some giant street parade celebrating holiday that stretched through 7 towns.
It was also one of the cleanest cities I've ever visited

You're really Skwisgaar Skwigelf, aren't you? How are your mothers titties? Do they still look like a road map of Stockholm?
30. Daisy - April 3, 2009 3:24 PM
FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max had an underground garage connected to his house with a pole he could slide down. When he wanted to go for a ride, he'd activate a hedden control inside shakespeares head, the bookcase would open and he could slide down to his garage. Then the car would drive out via a wall that opened.
31. The F'n Jem'Hadar - April 3, 2009 3:51 PM

I was thinking that exact same thing. Piston failure can mean sealed up car for quite a while. I'll stick to my garage door that I can lift if the electric opener stops working.

34. Cade - April 3, 2009 4:16 PM
Hmm... I don't really appreciate #7's abstract generalizations. Maybe it's the humanist in me, but I really don't feel like my dislike of upper class spending is "typical class envy BS." I don't mind this guy's parking arrangement or the manufacturing of more public replications (space is limited, especially in urban areas), but the thing that eats my heart away is knowing that the haves, spending terrible amounts of money on sports cars, etc., have the power to change the world for the have-nots. There's a horrific perpetualness to the global social stratification between the classes. If people of wealth would, I don't know, buy a Honda Accord instead of a Lamborghini and spend the difference on their fellow human beings, I don't think there would be, as Mr. Smackup says it, "class envy BS."
We all applaud your accomplishments. Please kick us again with your wit and esteemed attitude.
Number 10's assessment is absolutely correct.

It doesn't even close all the way. Why not just buy a OilXChange and build a house onto it.
40. MacMaster - April 3, 2009 6:30 PM
This would be great for hiding from the cops! They would never suspect such a thing, you can just live in your car in there. Too bad its so slow or you could even use it to escape in a high-speed pursuit.
As for draining, why not just have rubbers seals? Looks like they have that already from how slow it goes down that last few inches. Either that or have an overhang on the part that goes up so the rain just pours off into the street.

Looks like they built it in front of a double wide. Ha! Didn't look like the smoothest mechanism, either. If the power goes out, you better have another car someplace and no, this doesn't increase your parking space - you still have to keep the top relatively clear.

46. twellve - April 5, 2009 1:18 PM
there's just nowhere near as much space available in Europe compared to the US and big cities are even worse. i don't see this being any different than folks in SF who raise their houses an extra floor to install a garage. those who can afford to, do. the rest of us walk, take pub transport or street park.
