Mar 23 2009Sure, Why Not?: Cassette Tape Art

tape art.jpg

'Ghost in the Machine' is a series of artwork by Flickr user iri5 that uses old cassette tapes (or film) to create the likenesses of famous musicians/actors. Pretty clever. Not as clever as jumping off the top of the apartment building with a parachute fashioned from a 13-gallon garbage bag, but hey -- not everybody's a modern Da Vinci. GERONIMO!

UPDATE: Oh God -- little help over here! I think my leg came off when I hit that bush. No, not that one -- the next bush down. Yeah, now more towards the back. Find it? No, that's my penis, keep looking.

Hit the link for the rest.

Well the men come in these places
And the men are all the same
You dont look at their faces
And you dont ask their names
You dont think of them as human
You dont think of them at all
You keep your mind on the money
Keeping your eyes on the wall

Chorus
I'm YOUR PRIVATE DANCER
A DANCER FOR MONEY
ILL DO WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO
I'm YOUR PRIVATE DANCER
A DANCER FOR MONEY
ANY OLD MUSIC WILL DO

I wanna make a million dollars
I wanna live out by the sea
Have a husband and some children
Yeah I guess I want a family
All the men come in these places
And the men are all the same
You dont look at their faces
And you dont ask their names
Repeat chorus twice

Deutschmarks or dollars
American express will nicely thank you
Let me loosen up your collar
Tell me do you wanna see me do the shimmy again
Repeat chorus

YES! Do Stevie Wonder next!

@3 that's unofficially why it's called reddit

those are really good.. I haven't seen cassette tapes for a while *_*
wait it's called Ghost in the Machine but he doesn't have one of the Police?

@6

Because Sting is ugly. This isn't a Mapplethorpe type of gallery.

this reminds of the time when i was 12, and someone threw a Chicago cassette out their car window as they drove by me. When it hit the ground, it burst open and the wind caught it and stuck the tape to a bush and when I looked at it, it had formed a perfect likeness of Rick Moranis with a halo around his head. and that is why I celebrate Moranismas on april 18th every year.

Excellent work. I saw these a few days ago and couldn't decide if they had been done in Photoshop or not. In either case, very cool.

A Moranismas for the rest of us.

All along the Watchtower. Rock´n Roll Jimi!!!!!

I love throwing my old cassette tapes out the window on the freeway, the tape flies everywhere.

i approve.... seen something similar done with coffee grounds... i like the joy devision one

@ 7- so is Dylan and the dead guy from Joy Division

Yeah use the last form of recording that made musicians any money to memorialize them. It's poignant. I like.

15- ditto.

Isn't this just an ink drawing of his face with the tape used to make his fro?
Ripoff man, I expect the entire artwork to be made of cassette tapeyness.

Ooh I can throw cassette tape at a picture of Gabe Kaplan and call it art too!

....but I didn't. And that's what makes this guy an arteest. Touche' self, touche'.

did anyone see the hilarious caught on camera, with the nigerian guys trying to scam msnbc's chris and this big linebacker looking tough black guy goes running like a little kid after an ice cream truck, when they bring the cameras out

still have that vid in mind..the one with the chem experiment......just busting in on some one, with thing growing in a fish tank.hmmmm

some people have way too much time

When!? Do i've to walk them off the plank first to get a straight answer!? Full of shitbag! Bloop!
