Mar 7 2009Sleek Computer Case Designed By BMW

This is a prototype computer case designed by BMW and Thermaltake. It's called 'Level 10' and would get the shit stomped out of it by my 'Level 80' Paladin.
What a brilliant idea -- let's stop hiding PC components inside boxes, shine them up in stainless steel and black air-directing shrouds, and leave those innards out in the open for all to see. The concept is similar to those lofts with all the exposed piping and ventilation ductwork. It's positively postmodern.
Uh, am I the only once that noticed it doesn't look anything like a car? WTFBMW? Seriously, call me back when it has anti-lock brakes and a leather interior. Oh, and heated seats.
Level 10: the inside-out PC from an alternate dimension [dvice]
Thanks to DZ and Gingerbird, who once joyrode a BMW straight into a lake.

"What a brilliant idea"
Ya, cause actually directing the airflow over the components so they they wouldn't over heat and fail was ghey anyway.

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max was going to buy a new BMW but the car he bought had no wheels. He then realised it was a computer.

@10: The wires go behind the motherboard in that tall, thin PS2 looking bit. The latest full towers and some mid-towers now all provide a "false wall" behind the motherboard that extend all the way to the hard drive bays to hide your wires.
Actually I think this brings up some excellent concepts if you can ignore the Tron-esque design:
1) Completely separating the hard drives and 5.25" bays from the rest of the computer. Makes sense, removes a minor source of heat and noise, makes it more accessible and you can passively soundproof and cool it without worrying about other parts of the computer.
2) Isolate the biggest sources of heat and noise i.e. mobo, graphics card and possibly CPU fan/heatsink. Again, makes sense to focus the fans on the parts that need the cooling. I'd personally take advantage of the design to add passive sound absorption material and directed air-vents with dust filters.
3) The PSU can be totally separate, isolating another source of heat and (fan) noise. It used to be used as an extra fan to draw heat out, but it just isn't necessary. Being external might encourage some fancy PSUs with LCD displays for power management.

even saying this was real, where are the fans or where is the exposure of parts to coold air, this thing can be dangerous if the parts explode

isnt there a good chance... that overclocking it, or just over use would make the components, untouchable??

Why can't anyone come up with a sexy small form factor system? I want something small, sexy, and elegant.
Maybe I'll dress up one of those hot little wizard of oz imps and take her out on the town in the meantime.

Great idea to have all the PC parts exposed. That'll take care of all those accidental spill issues.

Stick to making cars? Dude, BMW makes a TON of stuff. They're best known for cars, but uh, motorcycles, *airplanes*... they know what they're doing. I'd pick this up in a heartbeat - looks sharp and would definitely cool nicely.
