Mar 19 2009I'll Never Work Again!: Giant Tetris Online

Looking for a great way to piss away your work day? How about starting a giant game of Tetris? Even after a full eight hours of gameplay you'll probably be nowhere! The screencap here is of me playing for five minutes, and then letting it drop shapes on its own for another 2 hours and 42 minutes (larger version HERE). You can leave your desk, go take a nap in your car, and have barely missed a thing. WHEE! I double-dog-dare somebody to fill the whole thing except for a line on one of the sides. You would be my hero! And also, a loser. Mostly a loser. DO IT!
UPDATE: Added a screen cap of some art Geekologie Reader Colunista created with the game, after the jump.

Bigger version HERE.
Thanks to Kevin, who has single-handedly destroyed my productivity for the day.

what is this thing you humanoids call 'tetris"? This must be the 'March Madness' all humanoids speak of.

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max invents the laser that accidentally shrinks his kids and their friends. The kids then have to run around the back yard to get back to Kansas. They hitch a ride on the back of an ant that sounds like Woody Allen when it talks, and they all have to avoid being eaten by velociraptors during a bad rain storm. Finally, they meet Helen Hunt's character, who is hiding from the tornadoes in an underground shelter, and who decides to pay it forward by helping the kids get back home.

Well the men come in these places
And the men are all the same
You dont look at their faces
And you dont ask their names
You dont think of them as human
You dont think of them at all
You keep your mind on the money
Keeping your eyes on the wall
Chorus
Im your private dancer
A dancer for money
Ill do what you want me to do
Im your private dancer
A dancer money
Any old music will do
I wanna make a million dollars
I wanna live out by the sea
Have a husband and some children
Yeah I guess I want a family
All the men come in these places
And the men are all the same
You dont look at their faces
And you dont ask their names
Repeat chorus twice
Deutschmarks or dollars
American express will nicely thank you
Let me loosen up your collar
Tell me do you wanna see me do the shimmy again
Repeat chorus

great concept but in practice loses novelty... it needs to be like half if not 1/4 the size... still giant but not unplayable
21. m0nkey - March 19, 2009 2:12 PM

31. eh - March 19, 2009 5:17 PM
i left it on during my lunch break to see if i'd get the "game over" message... it's been an hour and it seems, at this rate, the game can go on for a few days....

@30: You see, there is this thing called Earth, and it's round, almost sphirical in shape...we are on it. It rotates around this other, much bigger "sphere" of very hot gas, we call it The Sun. The Sun emits light, and since the Earth is (almost) a sphere, that light only reaches part of it at any given time. This led to the creation of things called Time Zones. There is also this thing called the International Date Line. It is an imaginary line on the surface of the Earth opposite the Prime Meridian where the date changes as one travels east or west across it.
On this side of the line it's Friday. Now get your head out of your ass.
34. formerly SPELLINGNAZI© - March 19, 2009 6:38 PM
oops *spherical
35. miaou - March 19, 2009 6:53 PM
I read the comments on the website and there were a couple that said the sound you hear when you get a line is worth the wait. I wish I noticed the one directly below that said "No it's not it's nothing special" because I would have wasted my time doing something more entertaining - like lighting my eyelashes on fire.
36. Beevis - March 19, 2009 7:02 PM
It took 24 minutes... but I got a line.
37. monketron - March 19, 2009 7:48 PM

It took me 29 minutes to get one freakin line!
40. JJtoob - March 19, 2009 9:56 PM
Does this website come from Russia? because it's on its web address, and because as someone pointed out, you might get so frustrated you'll want to go back to work, which I'm thinking is the point of this game.
41. Carl - March 19, 2009 10:29 PM
21 mins for one line!!!
42. boxedj - March 19, 2009 11:12 PM

44. Gordon "Fücking" Shumway - March 20, 2009 9:38 AM
@43
You are a fücktard. The link is in the story. Learn how to read and write before you decide to play on the interwebs.
45. $.02 and a pocket full of FAH-Q - March 20, 2009 10:06 AM
44- Why learn to read when there are pretty pictures?
fSN - Have a fun weekend!! Lucky you - I have to work on my Saturday =(
46. Leonidas - March 20, 2009 1:21 PM
ZOMG... imagine playing for two months and filling up the entire screen, except for that empty line on the side. Then, you get that sexy straight line piece, only this one is 10 000 blocks long, and you wipe out the whole screen in one move. THEN, all the peasants in all of Russia's 12 time zones march out onto the screen and dance for you. ZOMG!

49. myujin - March 26, 2009 9:39 PM
in normal key mode pressing enter makes it drops even faster than space bar!
50. lullaby - April 1, 2009 9:08 AM
I finished 2 (in words: two) lines within 22 minutes and something. Ha-ha, try to beat that! =)
A little pathetic that I've got so absolutely nothing else to do, but hey, I think I hold the world record.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
