Mar 26 2009Head Phones Inspired By Favorite Songs

Nokia recently held a promotion encouraging designers to make a pair of headphones inspired by their favorite song. The set above is entitled 'I'm Flying' and was (no joke) created in honor of R Kelly's "I Believe I can Fly", which I am now declaring a euphemism for peeing on someone. Per the Geekologie Writer's dictionary:
I believe I can fly
Slang terminology for peeing on your partner for sexual gratification.Honey, quick -- to the bathtub, I believe I can fly!!
Hit the jump for a set of 'Thriller' inspired headspeakers.

Thanks to Eazie, who notes, "these are cumbersome and silly but i cant help but want the shit out of em". So true, Eazie.

Okay this sounds nerdy but this looks like the headband the guy in Lost Odyssey (XBOX 360 game) wears.

The guy in the second pic is in serious need of chapstick

The "Thriller" headphones are pretty cool. Not wearable, but cool-ish.

What about Macbre's "Albert Was Worse Than Any Fish In The Sea"? I'd pay for that!

I honestly can't understand why people would want headphones like those... I like to listen to movies while laying down on the couch and I use my headphones so I don't wake up the lady of the house (soon to be wife). I wouldn't be able to do that with these! I'd rather have seen some Stairway to Heaven headphones, or maybe some "Baby got Back headphones". Now those I'd like to see. Probably not wear, but definately see.

Or Deicide's "Dead By Dawn"? That way you can kill two birds with one set of head phones! Sam Rami, I'm gunnin for your job.

My favourite song is "Baby got Back" by Sir Mix-a-lot... I'd like to see those headphones!

Nice, but the I'm flying ones made me think more of Apollo's winged sandals or of Icarus. KID ICARUS!
Boom.

12. Gordon "Fücking" Shumway - March 26, 2009 10:50 AM
Thanks Doctor. Now I got that terrible song stuck in my head. I haven't heard that since i was in middle school.
13. Mesarim - March 26, 2009 10:53 AM
@11 I only used internet telepathy, and read your brainwaves. I figured you didn't mind (excuse the pun) if I did it for you. How about Naughty by Nature O.P.P. headphones? Would that work better? :P Also, I think that the winged headphones would also work with the Ride of the Valkyries. Dum Da DA DOOOM DAAAAAA, etc etc.
14. Mesarim - March 26, 2009 10:54 AM
PS. I believe there was a song by "twenty fingers" in the 90's and it went "don't want no short dick man". I might be wrong, someone confirm this for me!!
15. Gordon "Fücking" Shumway - March 26, 2009 10:54 AM
@13
It would make it alot more fun to stick my finger in my ear.

TINA TURNER
Well the men come in these places
And the men are all the same
You dont look at their faces
And you dont ask their names
You dont think of them as human
You dont think of them at all
You keep your mind on the money
Keeping your eyes on the wall
Chorus
I'm YOUR PRIVATE DANCER
A DANCER FOR MONEY
ILL DO WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO
I'm YOUR PRIVATE DANCER
A DANCER FOR MONEY
ANY OLD MUSIC WILL DO
I wanna make a million dollars
I wanna live out by the sea
Have a husband and some children
Yeah I guess I want a family
All the men come in these places
And the men are all the same
You dont look at their faces
And you dont ask their names
Repeat chorus twice
Deutschmarks or dollars
American express will nicely thank you
Let me loosen up your collar
Tell me do you wanna see me do the shimmy again
Repeat chorus

You - get - sprung!

21. softlicious - March 26, 2009 11:00 AM
I like Zelda, so I guess I would prefer Zelda themed head phones. Something with a little Kokirish - Shrub feeling too it.

are you serious? graveyard headphones?
yes, i'm DEAD serious.
thank you thank you. tip ur bartender please.
25. catch22 - March 26, 2009 11:22 AM
neat concept... but i hate them
i just cant see how anyone could visualise a song with headphones...
both examples were terrible
i could pull a better design from my ass...
here goes....
the thriller one needed to be like red and black and slightly scuffed (kinda like MJ's outfit in the video) but still look like headphones... but with an '80s plastic vibe .....AND NOT LOOK LIKE A DIORAMA STOLEN FROM THE BEETLEJUICE SET
the r kelly one shoulda been white and blue or gold and sleek and very uncluttered they are just too busy for the song they represent the should look almost like they were made by nintendo for the Wii (the color scheme, the plastics, etc).... perhapse a litlle vial of yellow liquid floating in each ear bud to give it the "true" R Kelly experience

Look! I'm wearing NO headphones! Designed after my favorite song: Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel.

@26
ZING!
28. CoinOperatedBoi - March 26, 2009 11:58 AM
Really....R Kelly's version? lol
29. Pepper - March 26, 2009 12:02 PM
Okay, R Kelly is a freak, and that song makes me think of work due to how frequently it is played over the sound system (stabby) but I do like the headset. Actually, I really want it. I would totally rock those down the street, but I wonder if they are heavy/weighted for good balance. I bet I would manage to have them fall off my head and break within a day of getting them. Fighting crime while listening to my Zune calls for earbuds.
30. Pew³ - March 26, 2009 12:45 PM
I'm totally falling behind this morning, jeesh, work.
But when I first saw those headphone's it made me think of the White Gold Milk commercials.
Any one else? No? I didn't think so.

Don't frown, you're not last.
36. dart - September 30, 2009 11:44 AM
These look pretty good...but oh god I could make billions of different designs out of my favorites playlist (940 songs and counting).
However, the Thriller ones just look silly. The I Believe I Can Fly ones look alright, but the Thriller headphones just look childish. catch22 was right, red and black scuffy plastic would have looked far better.
They're not exactly wearable, but I'd keep them as ornaments. You know. Make little stands for them on a shelf or something.
