Feb 5 2009Verizon Customer Service Reps Fail At Math
This is a call to Verizon in which neither of the two customer service reps that get on the phone can distinguish the difference between $0.002 and 0.002ยข. Thank God that wasn't me, because I would have shot a laserbeam out of my eyes and accidentally killed the cat. No, I don't have a cell phone, so I don't have to worry about incompetent customer service reps. But what I do have to worry about is rats gnawing through my land line. I saw one drag a whole loaf of bread behind the refrigerator!
Thanks to Joel, Chad and Ollie Williams, who once killed a 411 operator for giving them the wrong number to a nudey bar.

Teaching these people math is like throwing a gummy bear at a brick wall, or like throwing a rape charge at an NBA player. Shit just doesn't go through.

Did anyone else notice the verizon rep told the guy we charger "two tenths of a penny." Which means they charge $.002. I think the failblog guy failed!

Here is the link to his blog, which includes a 27 minute audio clip of another of his conversations. Verizon should kill themselves.

This is downright frustrating to listen to and makes me wanna strangle the next person I see working at a Verizon store.

@ #12
you're right, a penny is a hundredth of a dollar $.01... so 2 tenths of a penny is $.002
But saying .002 cents equals $.002 is wrong
Difference of opinion LOL

Can't watch videos at work but Verizon is still sending my an account overview after I moved & closed the account 4 months ago. Called twice to let them know that they closed the account. Just got another one on 2/2/09. FAIL!!!!!!

Found a full length version of the call for those interested. Makes my blood boil somewhat just listening to it. Glad it wasn't me trying to teach these guys math.

They deserve to be beaten with a phone. Mobile data prices are a disgrace too!

Seriously, there is no way this wasn't already posted on this site two years ago.

I loved when they said it's a difference of opinion, and he's like no it isn't. You can't buy that kind of stupid, not for $0.002 or 0.002 Cents either.
24. Edge - February 5, 2009 2:41 PM
wow
I would have probably broken the phone right there

OMG this is old.
29. raman - February 5, 2009 4:47 PM
this is ridiculous. to make things easier for both the mathematician (caller) and the non-mathematician (customer attendants), you should say: if this 0.002 dollar or cent or whatever, is multiplied by 100, how much would i have to pay. otherwise it's a language problem.

@20
Welcome to 11 posts ago, dumbass.

$0.002 is equal to 0.2 cents. Blogger is right, if his bill isn't being calculated properly.
32. BlackSamTX - February 5, 2009 7:41 PM
math is hard.
33. Dike - February 5, 2009 8:59 PM
I like when he asks if she understands that 1 dollar and 1 cent isn't the same, and then if she understand that half a dollar isn't the same as half a cent, and to that she agrees. But when he asks if she understands that 0.002 dollar is not the same as 0.002 cent, she goes "No.", seriously?
34. Daisy - February 6, 2009 6:47 AM
FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max was working in the analysis section of the NSA and through some sort of mixup got sent out as an agent to try and stop the russians from starting a nuclear war. It turned out russian soldiers are women and they had fun dancing around the missle.

That's hilarious, proud to be British :D
36. djcorbijn - February 6, 2009 7:34 AM
This is so ironic. My wife used to work for Verizon in customer support doing this same thing. She was given a pink slip for attendance and tardiness issues (even though she was fighting stage three breast cancer). My wife not only had to work around "professionals" like this, she was terminated by "professionals" like this. I kid you not and if anyone wants to say this is untrue, especially verizon, I will post my name, email, address, phone, whatever. Get the lawyers.
If you think these people are arrogant and moronic on the phone, they are totally worse in the workplace. This is exactly how conversations with customers go down. If you notice, the supervisor was listening and instantly came on the conversation with a condescending attitude.
Karma is such a bitch. I applaud the person who put this on the internet.
@35 My wife is British.
