Jan 25 2009T-Mobile's Dance Spectacular Commercial
This is a recent commercial from T-Mobile that is almost identical in execution to this stunt (the second video), except there's like a billion times more dancing in this one. Basically a bunch of confederates (damn you, the north!) are walking around in a train station when they bust out in dance and get all wild up in that bitch while onlookers go "what the f***?" and a couple old people question if they remembered to take their medication. Good times. Oh man -- can you imagine if you were just been passing through on your way to catch a train? You'd have missed it. Then been pissed.
Youtube
Thanks to Jon and Mr M, who did a dance number in the middle school talent show but got booed off stage so they set off a stink-bomb in the back of the auditorium.

My, you're up late GW.
Thanks for thinking of us late night dance lovers. :)

I'd remember the ad, but not the brand name... Therefore - pointless ad!
3. hugegirl - January 25, 2009 9:34 PM
That commercial blows because it didn't have howie long in it. Why the f*** would I buy a phone from a commercial with no famous people.
4. Hunter - January 25, 2009 9:55 PM
I wish I could randomly walk into a mob and dance perfectly like that (whilst simultaneously dousing the floor with kerosene and lighting a match 20 seconds before everyone's done dancing).

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadows are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie never Back Down where Max's friends convert his brothers car (which was earlier reported stolen) into a deathmobile inside a cakelike parade float. They ride it into the homecoming parade, and when they are by the reviewinfg stand they cut the cake to expose the inner car, and use this to ram the stands, while at the same time pulling some other disruptive pranks.

It would be way better if there was some good music to playing to dance to. Thia was a crappy ad.

Ah, the ol' trick of big corporate agencies ripping off a spontaneous idea by viral geeks or improv freaks and using it to belatedly sell us crap. Cool!
10. Thumperchica - January 25, 2009 11:05 PM
That looked like a lot of fun to put together and make! AWETHUMB.

Man! I'ma sucker for these things. I felt like getting out of my chair and joining them. I would have too, if I was alone and not in my dorm room now.

@ 9 - right there with you. What a cynical, unoriginal piece of marketing bullshit. "Hey, you know that wonderful semi-underground thing that these really cool creative people did a year or so back? Let's rip off that idea, spend hundreds of thousands to restage it with professional dancers and paid extras, and use it to sell product." Go f*** yourselves, T-Mobile, and the ad agency you hired to do this.
15. Iris - January 26, 2009 12:45 AM
LOVE IT.

@14: Ditto. This ad could also apply to camcorders and cameras; unoriginal, uncreative.
17. eggs - January 26, 2009 1:54 AM
Still, it made some of us feel good, if only before realizing how commercialized all of it is. So, well done.
To people who are angered by this ad: what? Why "Go f*** yourselves"? How rude. If you don't like it, don't buy their stuff. Simple as that. No need for profanity.

The idea is quite similar to the frozen grand central at Improv Everywhere, isn't it?

20. Neverwhere - January 26, 2009 2:58 AM
Yes, it's a rip off, but more importantly they're not Confederates OR Yankees, that's Liverpool Station in London. So they're Limeys. :-P

If only life was that whimsical...

The "do you love me" part kind of reminded me to the twist and shout parade scene in Ferris Bueller's day off.
Perfect choreographies from random street people, life should be just like that.

This made me smile on this rather dreary morning. Thanks!

not all the people in the train station to take some picture, so they take with their phone and share, for that reason is a T-mobile commercial!
