Jan 21 2009Sure, Why Not?: Dude Laser Etches All The Levels Of Super Mario Land Onto His Eee Pc

Remember Super Mario Land for the Gameboy? Yeah, that shit was hard. Well Flickr user revolvingdork went and laser etched the top of his Eee PC with the entire freaking game.
Everything from the familiar layouts of 1-1 to the climactic battle with Tatanga in the clouds at the end of 4-3 is represented in the etching.
This was made possible with the laser cutter at NYC Resistor in Brooklyn, where you can go to get your laptop etched too!I set the laser in raster mode at 70% speed and 40% power to achieve this look.
There you have it folks, now get out there and laser-etch your laptops! Except for best results I recommend setting the laser for 1% speed and 100% power. Just trust me -- if your computer catches fire, it's working.
Hit the jump for a closeup in which you can really appreciate the detail.

Thanks to Emode, who once etched a laptop with his own urine because the dude drinks battery acid and you don't want to f*** with him.

4. Thumperchica - January 21, 2009 1:24 PM
Damn, this looks great! I would be leery of etching my laptop though...
5. Timbo - January 21, 2009 1:26 PM
That...is...AWESOME!

Now that I have called first and I got too greedy, so I had to take second too, comon, I was the unopposed first for 3 whole minutes! Now I can say what I was going to say. Too much detail, it's hard to see what it is, and there is not even any colors? Look at this instead:

That is beyond awesome. I want one, RIGHT NOW! Mario is the friggin' best, nothing can beat Mario. Not even _> Zelda!

Legit!

Super Mario Land *was* hard. I remember having that for the original Game Boy. I don't think I ever got past World 1-3.
Someone should do this with the original Legend of Zelda map.
10. LSDiesel - January 21, 2009 1:51 PM
@7, Zelda has and always will kick Mario's ass. In fact, it's always puzzled me how a little dago got to be Nintendo's mascot. There is nothing in any Mario game that beats a Zelda game.
And that is my completely un-biased response.

@7 - those are fighting words
you know what they say, opinions are like colonoscopies. Once you are about to get one - you start to rethink it.
What ever happened to Max Headroom. Time for him to make a comeback eh?
12. LSDiesel - January 21, 2009 1:55 PM
@11, if something cannot be taken as offensive, it's probably not worth saying ;)
13. Cameron - January 21, 2009 1:58 PM
@10. LSDiesel - Well, I'm glad you shared your opinion, I'm just sorry you are so terribly wrong.
14. Moose Knuckle - January 21, 2009 2:00 PM
If he was a real fan, he would have laser etched it on his forehead.
15. Cameron - January 21, 2009 2:00 PM
@11. zakree - OOOOOOH! Are you passing out free colonoscopies? Me first, me first!!!
16. gamer - January 21, 2009 2:00 PM
This game, hard? At first I thought you were joking then more people post saying the same. Really?
17. meeotch - January 21, 2009 2:02 PM
@6: You do realize that GameBoy didn't have color, right?
18. Cunt fucker - January 21, 2009 2:08 PM
@1, so I guess all you do is sit there pressing refresh? Such a f***ing asshole. Get a life you dipshit.

Wow #18 hates firstardedness more than I do, hello negative condescending friend.
The etching on that laptop is nice, but all of the things to etch on a laptop I don't think mario levels would be high on my list. I'd probably etch the dvd cover for the movie Never Back Down

Sweet

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max gave his boss an etch a sketch and told him its a laptop. Later the boss told Max he was having trouble with it and Max reminded him to hold it upside down and shake it to reboot.

id like the back of a playing card (like a bicycle rider back) on my laptop to replace my "expensive deck of cards" sticker

that game was awesome.

@21: Get a new goddamn macro. Your complete lack of comment spontaneity makes me want to scratch my eyes out. I swear to god you're a bot that spams the comment enabled gossip pages. I hate you.
Okay, I feel better now.
This guy is either really secure with his over the top geekiness, or certifiably insane. I like a geek with confidence, probably moreso than the rest of you, but this is really toeing the line of "gay": the gay that has nothing to do with sexual orientation. I like Super Mario just as much as the rest of my generation, but this level of non-life and too much spare time is so sad. Poor guy. Someone find him a girlfriend (or boyfriend, for that matter) - it's one thing to make a cool, Mario inspired cake or something. This is quite another.

don't want to debate whether its real or not, but if its real, the stitcher got some real talent :)

@25: Um, it's a computerized laser, you stick it in a big box and upload an image and it burns out a design. You actually thought someone did that by hand? Wow...I've got this awesome movie you need to watch, see #21 for details.

I'd laser-etch my laptop, but I've already got this awesome topographical-map looking thing on there.
That being said, if I could afford it I'd see if someone could strip the horrible orange-peel coating off of my tower's case and get it professionally laser etched.
(unrelated: yay, number that divides by five and is even and ending in 0. I like numbers like that.)
