Dec 19 2008RIP: Majel Roddenberry Passes Away :(

Majel Roddenberry, widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and voice of Starfleet computers in every version of Star Trek including the upcoming J.J. Abrams movie, passed away yesterday from complications from pneumonia. She was 76.
Even before she married Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry in 1969, she was integral to Star Trek. She was the original first officer aboard the Enterprise--replaced after the pilot by Leonard Nimoy's Mr. Spock--and reappeared as the faithful Nurse Christine Chapel. When Star Trek: The Next Generation hit airwaves in the late-1980s, Barrett-Roddenberry took the recurring role of Lwaxana Troi--maternal gadfly to the Enterprise's counselor, Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), and romantic thorn to Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). After Gene Roddenberry's death in 1991, Barrett-Roddenberry would eventually shepherd some of his ideas to fruition; she served as the executive producer of Earth: Final Conflict (1997-2002) and Andromeda (2000-2005).
RIP Majel, you will be missed.

Thanks to Ravage, Uncle Eccoli and Justin, who all wish their computers spoke in Majel's voice.

Very sad, and that sucks. Just like Sharla's blog.

I don't get it, can't we just send her to a dead planet, then activate the Genesis device on that planet, thus restoring life to everything on the planet? Seems simple.

Sharia - not even the Genesis Device can save your shitious blog...

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max is called to the transporter room for an away mission. He realizes he is the only redshirt beaming down and begs to be replaced because he doesn't want to die. They force him to go, and he is amazingly the only one who lives.

Bette Paige, Deep Throat, and Majel Roddenberry... well, there's 3...
15. Dave - December 19, 2008 12:41 PM
Actually according to the AP and E news she died from leukemia, not pneumonia.
16. Mcfeely Smackup - December 19, 2008 12:49 PM
This makes me sad. I always liked her and the fact that she was the continuity between all the Star Trek franchises.
When we think of voice response computing, it will always be her voice.

@ 17 "princess" ... nice try
@ Daisy- F*** you... I know that you do this in every thread, but this is one you could have skipped.
@ JJ Abrams- You better not bomb this movie, this may be the last thing Trekies get for awhile. At least Majel finished the voiceover for the new movie before she passed.
RIP Majel

hey what's up with your facts? your pal from iwatchstuff posted the same news, only he said "Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, known as "the first lady of Star Trek", passed away yesterday after a battle with Leukemia."
so, either she fought with a person called Leukemia, or she died from leukemia and you were wrong. or he was wrong and it was actually pneumonia

I'am saddened. I know We, who keep star trek in our hearts, shall miss her & I know, Star Trek would not have been, with out her input also.

Pneumonia's a lousy way to die. =(
26. tim h - December 22, 2008 12:11 AM
Obviously it wasn't leukemia or pneumonia. She was strangled by Roddenberry's risen corpse. Look at the photo, duh.
27. STINK - December 23, 2008 6:03 AM
Cannibalism by zombie's a lousier way to die, but makes great YouTube. =(

Actor William Shatner (who played Captain James T. Kirk) did not attend Majel Roddenberry's memorial. He also did not attend the memorial for Gene Roddenberry. The other TV stars (and even crew) made the memorial.
That is very disrespectful. Gene made Shatner a star. Most of the other TV stars and crew made it. I commend the other actors who knew it was right to attend and pay their respects.
Shatner should be ashamed.
A Star Trek Fan
