Dec 16 2008Parents Take Halo 3 Away From Teenage Son, He Shoots Them Both, Killing Mother

17-year old Daniel Petric shot both his parents, killing his mother, for taking his copy of Halo 3 away from him. You can hit the link to read the story of how it went down, but I don't feel like copying it here.
Lawyers for the accused delivered a brief statement at the opening of the trial, explaining that their client had be under a large amount of stress after being homebound for a year due to a snowboarding accident with nothing to do but watch television and play video games.*tearing up*
It's just an amazingly heart-wrenching story, made even more so by the following exchange between father and son related by Mark Petric (Daniel's father) during testimony:"Dad, I'm so sorry for what I did to Mom, to you and to the family," Daniel Petric said, according to his father. "I'm so glad you are alive."
"You're my son," Mark Petric responded. "You're my boy."

WTF??? Clearly, there's more going on with this family than just a video game-related shooting.

interestingly, i read the link, he snuck out to buy the game, so it wasn't the parents to remove it from him if he paid for it. it doesn't make it right, but the fact that he bought the game makes it his property doesn't it?
with that said, this is still a f-ed up story.
the part that needs to be added to this story is
"You're my son," Mark Petric responded. "You're my boy.... but soon you'll be Bubba's bitch in jail"

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like the scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max is hiding in the freezer at Del Tacos and he keeps himself warm by thinking about his father taking away his tetris game. His father said - no commie games in my house!!!

15. Anthony - December 16, 2008 4:47 PM
Yes he went and bought the game himself, but the parents forbid him to buy it in the firstplace, so he was going against them by buying it. Plus, he still is technically a minor, and a dependent in their home, so, they still have some say in what he does.
I'm more interested in the homebound part. He wasn't so homebound that he could sneak out and buy a videogame.
The more I think about it, the more I see how much of this story is just messed up.
16. none - December 16, 2008 4:48 PM
damnit, i was wishing that Daisy was this kids mom...
*sigh*
17. Alex - December 16, 2008 4:55 PM
This is what happens when you wait until a kid is seventeen to discipline him. There was a substantial discipline and respect problem if this kid outright defied his parents, and also was in a home where there is a gun, but was not educated properly. This is just sad. Of course, the video game industry will get implicated in this. Sad.
18. proteon - December 16, 2008 4:57 PM
Well, you kids sure embarrass the f*** out of anyone born before 1985 I'll say that. But your bangs are blowdried to perfection and that monologue you put up on youtube is full of win. If ever a generation was setting themselves up to be embarrassed in 10 years and say "i never did that" it''s you kids.
19. marcus - December 16, 2008 5:02 PM
pretty f-ed up all he is accomplishing is...
A:screwing up the rest of his most likely already screwed up life,
B: revealing a whole prospect season for dr. phil ("you're my boy"? honestly??)
c: making himself look like the biggest douchebag in douchebagville, and finally
Q: literally handing jack thompson at least a year of ammo to fire at the VG industry with his 140mm bullsh!t cannon.
(@3 funny but it would totally suck if that was really the case [which isn't that farfetched with this kid...]}

21. Douchie Mc Bagman - December 16, 2008 5:10 PM
Questions:
1) did he get mom with a head shot?
2) was dad wearing armor so he survived?
3) did he ask the court for leniency because his mother recently passed away?
4) will people blame videogames, when clearly its the lack of videogames that caused this heinous act.
5) did he say "I told you I was hardcore" before he busted a cap in moms ass?
6) did he often play rock and roll music backwards?
7) did his parents often grow microbes in their dishes?
8) did his father also prohibit dancing, and look like John Lithgow?

Did I tell you about the time I was playin' Space Invaders, my dad came in and took the joystick away from me. He said, no more video games for me, it will rot my brain. I threatened to take action against him and he took of his shoes and threw them at me. I managed to dodge both of them. I wasn't president yet, so I had no secret service to subdue him. So I just said, "Dad, don't throw your size tens at me!" He said "You're my boy" and we hugged and then played space invaders together. And that's the first time somebody threw their shoes at me. Where were we?

As usual there must be more going on here. I'm suspicious of any incident like this involving the child of a religious figure (priest, rabbi, minister, whatever). so whether that guy was an actual ordained minister or not is lost on me.
Obviously, the kid was able to get a gun, I'm guessing from the story it was the same gun that his game was locked up with. That being the case, the father should have kept his weapon more secure (I'm not trying to blame pops at all, just making an observation).
Depending on how seriously the Family followed their church doctrine they may have been weirdos. According to the church's website they believe in faith healing and speaking in tongues.

@7 Correction. a 17 year old who obviously couldn't have a job because he's been homebound for a year. Therefore he used his parents money to buy a video game they explicitly said he could not buy. All while living in their house as a dependent.
WTF is with the entire article being nice to this kid? Heart wrenching my ass he's a f***ing moron who SHOT TWO PEOPLE IN THE HEAD. because they took away his f***ing video game! He should be locked up forever because he's clearly a f***ing danger to society.
Oh and the lawyers are f***ing morons too and shold be disbarred for that sad f***ing excuse for a defense.
1: playing video games and watching tv all day is not f***ing stress full. Most 16 year olds would LOVE to get out of school for a year and not have to do jack shit all day. I know i would have.
2: BOOKS EXIST wtf nothing to do but watch tv and play video games? wtf if you can play a video game you can read a goddamn book. Hell you can attend f***ing classes online and get your goddamn education too.
God damn this whole story just pisses me off. Not only because it's a f***ing sad story but because now we're going to have to listen to more bullshit about video games being evil.
ok i'm done ranting now.

Why don't we start giving him the responsibility he deserves, someone is willing to tell me that someone is at home too much so they kill their parents? The human mind is amazing in that it can adapt to situations much more severe than these, so I don't see why people are fishing for an insanity plea. And people need to stop pointing fingers at everyone else, especially video game engineers because the world is far from perfect, and these games still sugar coat what knowledge these kids already know. If he's a tough enough boy to kill his parents, he is a tough enough boy to deal with prison.
48. Watcher - December 16, 2008 9:09 PM
I agree if he does the crime he should get the punishment. in this case death. If you're going to be that f***ing stupid as to shoot to kill your own parents because they took away your video games.. you don't deserve to be here.. I hope that dumbass gets beaten to within an inch of his life

His dad would feel ever worse not forgiving him. Hating the poor kid would not fix anything. Besides, he can feel his part on the guilty since the gun must have been his.

I wish this article to be fake. ..but I can't tell. My eyes are too blurred with tears.
One thing I know for sure. Jeff and Daryl, the main characters of the movie "Ever Give Up" would never do a thing like this. They did some nasty bit of shenanigan naughtiness yes in deed, but they'd never disrespect a parent's life span. If their parents would have taken away their video game out of fear of getting their brand used plasma screen smacked with a wiimote, then Jeff and Daryl would have simply pawned the TV and bought three-way tickets to Las Vegas when the video gaming convention or dragoncon was in town. Although that movie had a brilliant sci-fi horror twist, it was at its base a romantic comedy so no family member's died. Granted Daryl's mom did turn into an eye-popped out zombie when she saw her husbands private junk. That is probably because he just got done trying one of the recipes from daryl's cookbook. Semen stuffed Vimax-berry Muffins. MmmMmm!

That is so great about america there is always a gun around to shoot your mother if she takes your games away.
61. mikesh - December 17, 2008 5:46 AM
People murder each other for various reasons, almost none of them good and many of them beyond our ken. So in October of 2007, when the 16-year-old son of a pastor in a suburb of Cleveland shot both of his parents (his father survived, his mother didn't), one of the most pressing questions was 'Why?' There wasn't any good answer at the time. From an October 2007 article in Ohio newspaper The Plain Dealer:
Police and prosecutors refuse to discuss a motive in the Saturday night shooting, saying that they, too, are looking into the boy's background and statements he made. Was he a great kid who got into trouble for the first time in his life, or was he a troubled teen who continued along his wrecked course?
"There are conflicting stories," said Lorain County Sheriff's Capt. Richard Resendez.
Fast forward to the boy's trial this week. Prosecutors have apparently built a case at least partly around Halo 3. Again, from The Plain Dealer:
[Defendant] Daniel Petric was so angry that his father would not allow him to play the violent video game Halo 3 that he killed his mother and shot his father, then tried to make it appear to be a murder-suicide, prosecutors told a Lorain County judge this morning in the boy's murder trial.
So there you go. In this instance, blame law
62. Thumperchica - December 17, 2008 7:44 AM
OK, I'm officially a terrible person. I found a few articles about this sad story. Well, this little tidbit made me laugh so hard I may have teared up...
"A minister has testified that his teenage son asked his parents to close their eyes for a SURPRISE, then shot each of them."
I know, I'm going to hell, but I'll still be laughing...

"Yes sir. To the charge of murder in the first degree and assault causing serious bodily harm. The jury finds the defendant GUILTY....SPARK!!!"

"Seriously though kid, you're f***ed."

Kid was probly emo already, or fat)
67. Douchie Mc Bagman - December 17, 2008 9:42 AM
@62 - That made me giggle too. Then I thought he needed a bigger gun, and if he lined it up right it could have been a double headshot. Or maybe with 2 guns, because if you are sitting there and hear the first shot you are gonna open your eyes, and possibly move, so the second shot is really hard to get.

I actually went out one summer with the boys parents (it's in Northern Ohio. We went to Putt-In-Bay Island out in Lake Erie) They seemed nice enough people, dad is a preacher, and mom seemed like a nice lady. Never met the son. Anyways, here's the f***ed up part. The son says "Mom, Dad, come in the living room, I got you a present. Close your eyes."
So they close their eyes and he shoots his mom, killing her, and shoots his dad in the face, but he survives.
I didn't know them well by any means, but I met them since my brother worked with the mom at a mental retardation home.
Anyways, there's my 2 cents. Bash me at will.

Heart-wrenching story?! WTF? So he was homebound after an accident? Big f***ing deal, so was a mate of mine after a motorcycle accident. After a year and a half at home, he did not shoot his parents.
That sick f***er wants locking up for good and the key throwing away, with hot pins stuck into his eyes occasionally. As for the father, he sounds just as f***ed up as well.
