Dec 5 2008Geekologie Reader Gets Credit For Spider

Geekologie reader Dustin got partial credit (2/5 points!) for pulling the ol' picture of a spider trick on an algebra test in college. Good looking, Dustin! It's just too bad your teacher's a dick -- I think we can all agree that spider's easily a 3-pointer.
Thanks again Dustin, may all your future math tests be arachnid-y.

Awww come on... Yes, it's a bit funny that the teacher gave him points but... 1 is less or equal to 0... ?
Math isn't what it used to be!

I'm pretty sure this is an ant, not a spider. Maybe that's why he only got 2/5.
5. guate6 - December 5, 2008 12:23 PM
HAHAHA, "perhaps if the spider was in the solution region."
This spider may have just begun another small interwebs-based revolution (like the numa numa song)

That's it, that spider is getting tattooed across my chest
10. LSDiesel - December 5, 2008 12:48 PM
Better to draw a spider, than shoot your web. ;)
11. Gizmoduck - December 5, 2008 12:51 PM
OLD
that spider looks like a butt plug with legs.
DO NO WANT
12. etr - December 5, 2008 12:53 PM
The kid got 2 points because he drew one line almost right, except for the slope and the other a parabola, but upside down because he forgot to change x to -x when moving over to the other side of the inequality. He did not get points for a spider. Perhaps math IS still what it used to be.
13. Thumperchica - December 5, 2008 12:55 PM
should've started with the 7 legged spider, then upped it to 8 for another point...
14. Gizmoduck - December 5, 2008 12:59 PM
plus that kid is an unoriginal bastard.
your argument is invalided
15. NoTThEEnEmY - December 5, 2008 1:17 PM
FAKE!
The grading handwriting and the handwriting submitting the spider as an answer are the same.
16. Billy d williams - December 5, 2008 1:22 PM
U KAN TELL TAHTS FAEK! LUK AT TEH SHAHDOES!!1 TEHY RNT RITE!11!
17. NoTThEEnEmY - December 5, 2008 1:29 PM
haha. "Solution Region" what an idiot. I dont know a single math teacher who calls it the "Solution Region"
18. Dolly - December 5, 2008 1:34 PM
OLD!!!!
This is completely old news. I saw this shit on Gizmodo year's ago.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie The Karate Kid where Daniel and Miyagi go to a frat party an get really drunk drinking a shot of beer a minute.
19. Daisy - December 5, 2008 1:34 PM
FAKE!!!!
This is an obvious phtoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like the scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max and Baja snoop on Max's next door neighbor who they think is a weird murderer, who is also dating Max's mom, Trinity.
20. Pew³ - December 5, 2008 1:37 PM
@13. It IS a seven legged spider. RAD! Maybe there will be a follow up with extra credit.
@18. your comments are OLD. Are you trying to be the next Daisy?
21. Dugger - December 5, 2008 1:44 PM
I agree with #15.
The handwriting shows very similar patterns to the letter style implying a fake.
22. Thumperchica - December 5, 2008 2:00 PM
@20 - I'm a fuctard. Who apparently can't count spider legs...
23. VanillaFace - December 5, 2008 2:03 PM
I apologize to everyone here. I ate Daisy's face in an attempt to get her to shut the f*** up... apparently she regrew the face and is very much not dead. I will eat her whole head next time. Again, I apologize.
24. Mcfeely Smackup - December 5, 2008 2:15 PM
This would be funny, but the obvious fake-itudeness of it makes it just sad.
Not only is it obviously the same handwriting in both instances, but how exactly do you DRAW a black spider on a white page, with white eyes/mouth? You'd have to fill in everything BUT the parts you wanted to be white.
25. G Warlock Vance - December 5, 2008 2:25 PM
Agreed - the teacher is a tool. I teach college English. I'd have given a student extra credit for a genuine, official spider drawing. I mean, what's all my talk about CREATIVITY for?
26. Minerva - December 5, 2008 2:38 PM
1: That's obviously an ant.
2: Lack of creativity, I would've taken points away...
3: Nothing so far beats the "poem" I wrote on my chemistry final and that landed me in therapy (but also got me an B+)
27. fred - December 5, 2008 2:49 PM
lol. first it says to graph. so why write 1<= 0 <= 2 ? (which also doesn't make sense). Also, why spend more time shading the spider than shading the area enclosed? nice try, but no.

Not the same handwriting - the t and g are both written differently, although both are sloppy in a similar way. And yeah you'd have to color in everything but the parts you wanted to be white. Would that really be all that hard for you?
29. Tim - December 5, 2008 3:31 PM
I like how no one gives a f*** daisy. Now to kill yourself in front of a preschool.
30. Aya @ Thrive - December 5, 2008 3:51 PM
I enjoy how the famous spider is a muse for everyone, just as it was for

if only the spider worked miracles for all of us
31. Gail - December 5, 2008 4:42 PM
THAT'S FUNNY!!!!!
32. Vossk - December 5, 2008 4:54 PM
The whole spider thing is lame and old. The presumably middle-schooler most likely got credit because he found 1<=0<=2. Oh, I'm shittin' brix! Epic win! ololololololo!!1
33. HI! I'm mediocre! - December 5, 2008 5:14 PM
It would be a three point spider had it eight legs. Since it only has seven legs, it is only a two point spider.
34. 김광호 - December 5, 2008 5:50 PM
cool
35. LOL - December 5, 2008 5:55 PM
LOL.
His statement of "1 is lesser or equal to 0, and 2 is greater or equal to 0."
So now the new arrangement of numeric values...
1, 0, 2, 3... lol.
36. lisasimpson - December 5, 2008 5:58 PM
I love how you can tell who the real assholes are: those who doubt the legitimacy of the spider as well as the originality of the spider idea. The kid is in middle school--nothing any middleschooler does is ever original to adults, but it's funny as hell to them!
So kudos to the dumbass who now only has to figure out how to bed his math teacher to get an A. That's how I got through middle and high school. And college. And grad school. And my current job. Maybe I should've just handed out pictures of spiders instead.
37. tn11 - December 5, 2008 6:02 PM
i think its freakin genius... who cares if he got it from the site? do you respond to any memos w spiders? kids got balls... and a bad math grade
38. tn11 - December 5, 2008 6:06 PM
should it be if the "spider WERE in the solution..." i dunno,... i have terrible grammer
39. lisasimpson - December 5, 2008 6:09 PM
"Was" and "were" can be interchangeable. It mostly has to do with the dialect of the region or the speaking habits of the speaker. The rule regarding "was" and "were" is descriptive, allowing for more subjective use.
Thanks grad school. Thanks Mr. Brown ;) (call me)

This reminds me of my Philosophy final. I aced it by writing an essay about how I didn't study because my Calc final was scheduled for the same day.

I used this picture in attempt to get out of a speeding ticket today, unlike these participants of the picture it didn't work
42. rockin - December 5, 2008 7:49 PM
This is definitely an original. You can tell it has been scanned because it is tilted and the lighting. And to the people who say that it is the same handwriting, I am pretty sure you are looking for anything because you want to call it fake. The writing is obviously not the same. This also could be college level. there are college level math classes that have this type of math.
I thought it was hilarious. So what if it wasn't original. It looks like it inspired him more than anything.
I don't have an explanation for the 1 is greater than 0 though.
43. Mrfibb - December 5, 2008 11:02 PM
Jesus, the kid cant do a coordinate plane right? Gee, kids today are way dumber than they were before. BUT, SPIDER! XD
44. AceMurdock - December 6, 2008 3:45 AM
Is it just me or is the second inequality y-z >=1, maybe it is my big monitors or just the tiny picture. With no relation for x to z that would constitute a three dimensional graph. So the question is impossible to graph on a two dimensional piece of paper.
Professor/Teacher FAIL
45. 123 - December 6, 2008 3:40 PM
@44- nice
46. a - December 6, 2008 4:41 PM
@44 nope it's an x
47. Dolfan - December 6, 2008 6:26 PM
hahaha thats great. I dont think it will ever get old.
Im not sure what all the hostility is about though...so what if its fake? or old? If it still gets a laugh out of u, whats the big deal?
48. eggs - December 6, 2008 10:44 PM
@44 You're supposed to use subsitution.

How come this spider has only seven legs? I don't think the guy would make such an elementary mistake.. I would ask the teacher to give me the original spider back!

I hope he is a business major.

I did not do my homework last night so I drew that 7 legged spider on my homework paper and wrote "please accept mr. spider as my homework" and got a 100 on it... *swear* me and my friends were laughing so hard...
