Oct 6 2008Dead Celebrities Made Out Of Fonts

font-1.jpg

This is a picture of Marilyn Monroe made entirely out of different fonts for an ad in a São Paulo newspaper. Check out three more of Charlie Chaplan, Marlon Brando, and James Dean after the jump, all of which look great. But still, prosthetic U leg and all, Marilyn is the best. I swear, I would hit that like a piñata -- with a Wiffleball bat.

Jump for the rest.

This is awesome!!!!

Yeah this is really cool, very creative. I'm surprised tubgirl didn't make the cut though...

Design Skills to the max!

Over-usage of the letters: a, i, v, & u. Could be more creative. The lack of creativity makes me vomit. Ugh. I could do way so way a lot much very very lots way better than this. jk i am sad.

This is possibly the best text art I've ever seen.

@6, *pat pat*.

aww I thought it was stuff you could do on da keyboard...
>8-)

How utterly and completely geeky.

Uh Elmo...you can make that with your keyboard.

Here I make an example, good luck knowing what it is though.

Hey, it's from my favorite brazilian newspaper, Folha de São Paulo =)

Im feel shame for be brazillian.
Its a true copy from an artist I saw months ago

@13, You spelt penis wrong you pecker head.

This is so easy if you have photoshop. its one of the first things we learned in graphic design classes.

#17 -- you're ruining it for everyone.

@17 - Never Back Down!

@17 - I'd totally prefer to do it in Illustrator. For me, nothing beats the look of crisp, clean vectors, easily manipulated on the fly...

Oh man, and that's the second pair of pants I've ruined today thinking about vector art. 'Scuse me, brb.

I live in São Paulo, saw them on newspaper kiosks last week and can say that not impressed me at all and...

...actually, the Carlitos name is Charles Chaplin. Fix it please :)

@13

I am jealous, that penis is much larger than my own.

nice characters!

nice characters!

@22

That's not a penis, that's a pennis, fool.

That 3rd one reminds me of the good bill and ted robots they built to fight the bad bill and ted robots in that movie, Never Back Down.

@17
Aww cute... Adobo Photoshop for type!? I remember those days. Keep up the good work and you to can become a GRAPHIC DESIGNER, IT MANAGER, COMIC BOOK ARTIST... In just 5 easy weeks... with our at home program.

so many lame comments...

These ads are an interesting typographical exercise..not original, but well done.
If you think this is "easy if you have photoshop" or think you can so "so way a lot much very very lots way better than this." you are dumb.

I hate adobe for making so many ppl think they are graphics artists.
If you can't make good good, make it big. If you can't make it big make it red. If you can't make it red make it move.

I tried to find more, but it doesn't look like these celebrities are very popular in ASCII art.

Well, that's the the way it is these days.

We aren't impressed by much anymore and even if we are that only lasts for a little while until someone else comes along and either criticizes or does it better.

And due to the existence of companies like Adobe providing excellent software that has only gotten all the more true especially with the up coming CS4 package providing that same someone else with 3D work sets to play with.

@31 - That wasn't actually me, I have an imposter - I couldn't have done this, I don't have the patience. That, and my work wont spring for a photo-editor, I have to do all of our site graphics in... paint... shoot me...

Raise your hand if you think chrisamp is dumb.

sioux -
I still am impressed. Granted I have to filter through more and more crap, but there are still milestones being created in visual arts. And as far as CS4 goes...it's getting crappier with every version - Ive used illustrator since version '88 on a plus..I was great until it got bloated (UI and code) check this potential photoshop killer http://www.pixelmator.com/ it doesnt have some essential features needed for full out production, but it's getting there...and it's real elegant.

Uncle Eccoli is dumb.

I am kind of am too but, hell, like the others stated it can be done elsewhere on other programs with a lot less work depending who's manning the controls. A less skilled person can even do this(somewhat) its just the creativity aspect comes into play to start making things more innovative and interesting.

I don't know so much about getting "crappier" per say I still use Photoshop for digital matte painting and most of the time for digital painting in general though I should be spending a bit more time with Corel Painter for the work I want to do.

And I'm not surprised other programs are out there gaining on Photoshop but for now and due to the up coming 3D options CS4 will provide, it'll be one of the leaders in graphics and photo editing for a while longer especially in a 3D work flow if those 3D options actually work correctly with 3Ds Max and Maya.

Though, even those programs will be getting competition for the future due to the nifty things the newest version of Soft Image is bringing to the 3D art world.

Those are pictures made up of different typefaces, not fonts. They would only be fonts if they were from the same typeface. For example, if they were all Times Roman and the individuals letters were 14pt, 14pt Bold, 10pt ital., etc.

A typeface is a family of fonts.

Robyn-

Thanks for pointing out the typefaces v. fonts issue. finally, someone understands!

It a cool campaign. I remember doing this back in college for a typography class I attended The Art Institute of California San Diego.

*points at Robyn* A NERD!! There's a NERD on the Geek site!!! GET HER!!!

that's obviously a FAKE person. you can tell from how the shadow on her thigh is flat.

I'm with 31 - I think fonts made from dead celebrities would be MUCH better! I have some celebrities in mind already. What sort of font would Spencer make? Something gay and pubescent, I'd guess.
