Oct 2 2008Cool!: New Phone Can See Through Walls

wall-phone.jpg

Apparently software developers are working on a cell phone application that can "see" through walls.

The 'Real Space See-through Mobile' software comes from KDDI's R&D laboratory and Tokyo University and is - you'll not be surprised to learn - still just a prototype.

Although we weren't able to see it in action, we can tell you that it is supposed to be able to judge its surroundings, including those on the other side of a wall, using six different sensors. Three acceleration sensors combine with a similar number of geomagnetic sensors and a GPS chip to work out exactly where the phone is and in what direction it's pointing.

Using some sort of digital voodoo, the software then uses OpenGL to draw on the screen what it has 'sensed' is in the immediate surroundings.

Awesome, locker room spy shots without having to disguise myself as a water fountain!

Ummmm, why? Why do I need a drawing of my surroundings?

How about this - MAKE A F.UCKING PHONE THAT DOESN"T DROP CALLS OR GIVE CRAPPY QUALITY CALLS. How about that? Maybe focus on phones that actually complete calls.

Dumb bastards.

PFFBBBT. That is all.

Silly Japs will do just about anything to see a school girls panties.

pretty whack

Rockin'

Wow. So these guys saw The Dark Knight too, huh?

@4, are you kidding?! Cel phones are not for making phone calls. They are for he following:

1. Impressing the idiots of the world.
2. Wasting money each month in order to text messages (why use your voice when you can use your thumbs, especially while driving.)
3. Playing MP3's, MP4's and playing games.
4. Wasting money each month to surf the interweb (can also be done on a PC in a pinch ( see #2)
5. Paying more for a phone than you did for your car.
6. PEW PEW PEW!

Pretty soon, phone companies will start forgetting to put the "phone" feature into their cell phones.

#10: good point.

That's why I was opposed to getting a phone that has a "camera." I figure I already have over $10k in pro equipment, why the hell do I need a crappy 72dpi POS?

I kind of like the simplistic approach...In a way, that's what was good about the Matrix phone that came out...very simple, calls only. Too bad they only made a couple hundred.

The post doesn't mention if you want to use this feature and have your battery last more than 2 minutes, you can buy the ultra-portable diesel generator pack and run that thing until you run out of gas. Note: Loud as shit diesel generator may effect call quality.

@9
damn you! I was going to say that...

i want this think to be destroyed. all those perverts with this damn phone. are gonna have to be kicked in the balls.

@4- Right on.
Sure, all the Bond-wannabes of the world will scramble to get their hands on one. But seriously, what would the average Joe do with this application? I guess, rather than knocking on the john door you could always zap it to see if someone is taking a duece.
Fail.

now i can see what my hot neighbors are doing ^,^

He actually used the tip!?? WOW!! Welcome back GW... dont be depressed about...the stiation. if yur not good enuff for "her" then she's a stuck up bitch. :D

How the hell are they working on Dark Knight Props... i still don't have warp speed or matter transports, granted we have Tir-corders (PDAs) and communicators (Flip phones). Tokyo University... get your prioities straight!!!

Since I'm on the subject here's the trailer for the new Star Trek Movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuksQwGOtVs

Great! What a leap from mobile broadband to mobile etch-a -sketch. I can use it to detect walls that suddenly appear out of nowhere after closing time on my way home from the pub.

firstly, WOW "Daisy" hasn't shouter FAKE!! yet..must be pretty good photoshop shadows, also..i think this'd be AWESOME...ly useless.. i cant see myself using it generally..although yes...the college may have to separate the toilets with a led shield from now on
