Sep 17 2008Under The Sea: Fish 'N Flush Toilet Aquarium

The Fish 'N Flush is a 2.5 gallon aquarium that replaces your regular ceramic tank. It consists of two pieces: the actual fill tank, and the aquarium, which surrounds the fill tank for the "fish in your toilet" effect. It costs $300 and is great for pocket fishermen and people who can't keep pet fish alive (comes conveniently located atop a fish cemetery). But for the love of God, DO NOT sell one to this kid, that's just asking for it. I want one though. The only problem is you don't get to enjoy the aquarium while you're sitting on the john. Unless...
UPDATE: You ever tried straddling a toilet? I shat on the floor!
Two more pictures and a video of the flushing in action after the jump.

Thanks to Mulva, the one that got away.

That's actually kind of cool.
Would I have one in MY house? No.
Would I go over to someone else's house who had it? Totally.

8. Ash - September 17, 2008 2:11 PM
Somethings fishy here. Plus I think watching the fish would decrease my aim even more.
9. Not That Guy - September 17, 2008 2:20 PM
@6 - You said 'things.' Hehe!
I'd be to tempted to put my wedding tackle against the outside of the tank in order to see their response. Actually, I would probably just put my junk right in the tank.
'AGgghhhhH! It's back!! SWIM!!!!!' <---- (frightened fish theater)

round my parts they call that upper decking
17. Smartass - September 17, 2008 4:13 PM
Why it doesn't work.
The temperature of the cold water in the flush part lowers the temp in the tank causing the fish to die of temperature shock. Cute if the fish could survive more than a few days though.
18. guate6 - September 17, 2008 4:26 PM
#17: I've yet to see someone who doesn't put a water heater in their tank.
I thought it all shared the water and the fish just had screens or dividers with holes drilled through, where water could get through, but the fish would be fine. It's neat in theory, but seems impractical. I love my Turtle Mansion :)

27. Ginormagantuan - September 18, 2008 9:43 AM
#17 change your name to dumbass....... goldfish do not need heaters, I know what you mean, but as for the heaters part, you have to live in a pretty damn cold house to cause them things to die, if anything they would die if you were to put a heater in the tank, goldfish are not tropical fish, did you mean because it would fluctuate too much each time the temp from the nearby tank fills up and empties? but I do not nessesarily see this causing too much a temperature difference, hmm........... MY HEAD IS GOING TO NOW EXPLODE...........

@27, actually it's two separate tanks which means that there are two polycarbonate walls between the fish tank water and the toilet tank water. Furthermore, plastic is not the best material for transmitting temperature. So to conclude, if the temp of the fish tank changed at all, I'd be surprised.

35. Krys - September 19, 2008 9:29 AM
HA! We actually have one of these things in my office. It's in a little used bathroom, and has no fish in it as of yet for fear that someone will pee in the tank. But we were very excited about the possibility of (live) fish in a toilet.

Won'/ work too well if you live somewhere that puts chlorine and/or fluoride in the public water supply. I live out in the country now and have a well with nice spring water and am surrounded by cows so no pesticide run off from plant agriculture, but where I lived before, in a city , I had to either treat my fish's water with a drop of antichlorine stuff per gallon, or let the water sit a few days so the poison could evaporate.
Of course some folks would not care. They would just keep buying new fish as some buy fresh cut flowers when the old ones die. That's sad. Fish have personalities. They can even be trained. There is a site where you can buy a kit to train your gold fish tricks and he has videos of trained fish doing tricks. So much for the "gold fish can't remember more than 3 seconds" myth. http://www.fish-school.com
